Poured on tap at Wine Affairs in San Jose.
Poured a clear, pale orange with thin, white head and good lacing (what Lagunitas beer doesn't have good lacing?). I get earthy hops to start followed by citruisy, very fruity hops. This had an acidic bite to it to start, prickling the tongue, followed by earthy, citrusy flavors and bitterness, ending in a tiny bit of sourness if you're looking for it (I had to search). The citrus flavor lingers. This is highly carbonated and very light in the mouth.
I didn't know the style they were going for at first, which I guess should be blamed on marketing. The original Sumpin' advertised the wheat, but that doesn't jibe well with most Belgian Strong Pales. I didn't know what to think of this beer. It would have been better without the strong carbonation and bite in the tongue. I guess I could just let it simmer a bit after pouring if I buy a sixer, though. This is interesting if not complex. Lagunitas keeps proving to me that they are a bit one note and should stick to their awesome IPAs.

A - Very clear pale amber. Finger of head that dissipates quickly to webbing.
S - Nice aroma. Smells of pineapple hops and citrus with some funk in there.
T - Bitter for sure, with that familiar pineapply/citrus hop, the dank hop is there as well. Balancing sweetness with good malt backing.
M - Puckering bitterness that stays with you. Smooth otherwise, medium body. Warming from the alcohol after, hidden extreemly well. Very appropriate mouthfeel.
O - Excellent beer. I prefer the sumpin' to the sumpin' wild, but still a solid beer.

An excellent take on a "mixed bag" style of beer. Pours a fairly clear light orange color with a small delicately bubbly white head that fades fast. Leaves some filmy lacing on the glass.
Aroma is really prominent. When the beer is cold, it is primarily citrus hops, not a generic citrusy aroma....more like someone squeezed a tangerine slice into the glass. As the beer warms up, the Belgian yeast takes on a more prominent role from a background smell to an aroma that holds its own with the hops.
Flavor is more of the same...hops forward while cold. Yeast takes center stage as it warms. The yeasty flavor is like that of a good Tripel...almost a ripe cheese type flavor. There is good bitterness throughout but the strong tangerine flavor fades into a more generic citrus flavor as the beer warms.
Mouthfeel is rich and soft. The yeastiness balances the bitterness. A very enjoyable beer and a good example of what this style can be.

From a 22 oz bottle into a tulip.
A-The beer pours an amber color with orange tint. Mostly clear with a few visible streams of carbonation. The head was thin and tan, and it goes away quickly, but leaves a little cap that never completely diminishes. There is some nice lacing.
S-The beer has a pleasant floral and citrus aroma with orange being quite noticeable. There is a piney undertone and a light alcohol spice that matches up nicely. It's not quite as luscious and sweet as an IIPA, and there is definitely a little funk that lets you know you're not drinking a Pliny.
T-The taste is unique and quite variable. It starts with obvious piney/hoppy tones and some orange/citrus that matches the smell, but then the yeasty, funky flavors start to take over. The finish is almost like a butter biscuit. I enjoyed it, but it was a bit all over the place.
M-The beer is lighter bodied with solid carbonation. There is a somewhat chalky finish.
O-I enjoyed this brew. It is more fleshy than many Belgian IPAs I have had, which is both good and bad. Its good if you (like me) like fruity, tropical hops, but bad if you want something a little more concentrated.
