Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: Lagunitas mason jar
From: Bine & Vine in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $2.15 (10 pct. off)
Purchased: April 13, 2016
Consumed: April 13, 2016
Misc.: No BOD on bottle

Really looking forward to this one. First time I’ve seen it on the stores (well I only knew it was at Bine & Vine) after seeing them post on Twitter. Just bought one bottle, but hoping to really like it and go back for a 6-pack. This will be a good one.

Poured a hazy orange color with 2-to-3 fingers of frothy, off-white head. Lots of bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass. Average spotty lacing on the sides of the glass. Average retention. (Sight - 3.75)

Definitely could tell it was a Lagunitas beer from the smell, but really digging it. Getting Citra, tropical notes, passion fruit, mango, juicy citrus, Juicy Fruit gum, red grapefruit, sticky pine, resin, hints of Mosaic and herbal hops. (Smell - 4.25)

Tasted a tad better. Boozy, but not 11.5 percent boozy. Bitter tropical rind, Citra, sticky candied sugar, mango, pineapple, red grapefruit, resin hops, grassy herbal hops, lemon zest, caramel and juicy citrus. (Taste - 4.00)

Medium-to-light body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Bitter, boozy finish. (Feel - 3.75)

Another good offering from Lagunitas. Thinking about 6-packs of 11.5-percent beer. Woof. (Overall - 4.00)

L- dark Amber color. Little head that fades. Pretty clear.
S- Smells very hoppy and piney.
T- Intense hoppy finish. Pretty dank nonetheless. Boozy after taste.
F- light and very smooth. Easy to drink.
Overall- not overwhelmingly hoppy. Great and enjoyably all around beer. Would get again.

4/20 beer. Poured from a 12oz bottle.
Look: Amber with decent head.
Smell: Tropical and obviously dank.
Taste: Slightly too sweet for my liking but I do get tropical on buds.
Feel: Smooth in the beginning then the booze that numbs the tongue.
Overall: Good bang for your buck. No other triple IPA comes in sixers for $12. Besides that, it is too big of a beer for me. I sip this and even split the servings throughout the day. Call me weak sauce.

Pours a deep honey/orange/copper hue, finger width of lush foam and sticky lace. You can really smell this one even whilst pouring a few feet off; strong pine resin, dank hops, grapefruit, grain, straw, earthy, tropical and herbal aromas. Lots of layers here. Fantastic.

A blast of pine resin and dank hop bitterness up front, citrus zest and grapefruit. Grass, straw, grain, guava, papaya, pineapple, mango, vanilla, oregano, peppercorn, caramel malt, lemon candy. Lots of depth and flavors going on here.

Thick and creamy, but smooth. Alcohol is hidden well but begins to show as it warms. Not too high in my opinion, plays off of the colossal bitterness and hefty malt backbone to balance this one out nicely.

Hard to beat the price for a beer of this quality. Just one thing I love about Lagunitas.

Very transparent honey colored body with a thin bone white head. Aroma is piney with big notes of unripe tropical fruit. Flavor follows with big bitterness, lots of fruitiness and big toasty malts. Feel is slick and full. Nice beer all around.

Big fan of lagunitas and I searched this one out for 4/20. Smell is a 5 with huge resinous aroma. Hits your tongue with the lagunitas signature ipa. It's great but too much alcohol for me. Like others I wish it was an 8-9% beer.

Dark golden color, minimal lacing poured from a bottle into a snifter. Smell is perfect, dank, citrusy, just incredible. Taste is solid, but a little too boozey for me. Very good, but could probably approach the best double out there if held at 8-9% ABV. Thick mouthfeel, you know you are having a high gravity beer. Overall very solid, would drink again.

Poured into IPA glass. It pours a clear golden-orange color with a one-finger, egg-white head and lacing. There are lots of bubbles rising in the glass. It has a really aromatic smell of onion, tangerine, mango, grass, pine, and caramel. Wow, this is an amazing beer. The tastes of grapefruit, onion, pine, and tropical fruits fairly explode but the malt base holds it altogether. It seems as if every sip accentuates a different flavor, which range from quite sweet to very bitter. It sweetens as it warms. It is also one of the dankest beers I've had. This ale is medium-bodied and moderately carbonated; and you can feel the 11.5% ABV. That's a shame in a way because it's hard to drink more than one at a time. Overall, this is an Imperial IPA that deserves both its hype and its world-class rating. It's one of the most well-crafted IPA's I've had the pleasure to drink. It looks, smells, and tastes terrific. Bravo, Lagunitas!

On tap 4/20 at The Wexford Ale House/Whole Foods.
A. Hazy golden orange with a half a finger of fizzy white head thin lacing.
S. This is by far one of the best aromas on a beer I've ever had. This is like Sucks but 10 times better. Huge dank onion and garlic, huge grass and pine, peach mango pineapple sweet candy malt.
T. The flavor profile matches the Aroma, but just a little reduced. The dankness is killer, tons of pine garlic onion extremely green, so much hop resin, then juicy exploding tropical fruit, mango papaya Pineapple green pepper, underlying candy and bread malt, slight alcohol.
M chewy but still vibrant and green and for it alcohol it's not heavy or all burn.
O. Blown away by this beer. So green, juicy and intense, I didn't think they could put out a beer better than Sucks but was I wrong

Poured clear copper/straw with fluffy white head that laced well. Scent was strong and powerful with notes of lemon, grapefruit, pineapple and mango with piny finish. Flavor was well balanced between juicy and bitter with citrus fruits taking the lead, followed by pine and a solid malt backbone. I'd say the malt balance is on the heavy side (not quite a malt bomb), though I realize to hit 11.5% the grain bill had to be huge. Solid carbonation level to balance the bitter and booze bite. The high alcohol content was hid well initially, creeped up as the beer warmed. Very good beer, the type you enjoy thoroughly, though don't need another.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter. Pours a hazy golden with a nice off-white head that fades leaving very nice retention and little lacing. The aromas are nice. Lots of tropical notes. Lots of peach, pineapple and mango. Lots of caramel malts as well. The flavors have alot going on. The tropical notes definitely shine, but so do the alcohol notes. It's warm and slightly boozy. Very sweet and syrupy. Slightly spicy. Mouthfeel is nice. It's full-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's creamy and fluffy. It's dangerously drinkable despite being such a big beer. It makes for a nice sipper.

This is a nice "Triple IPA". It's "no holds barred" and a little rough around the edges, but it's still enjoyable and fun to drink. It might not be my favorite "Triple IPA" or my favorite from Lagunitas, but it's still nice and I definitely see the appeal. The price is great too.

Pungent hop aroma. I can smell this beer from three feet away. Copper color, pretty clear. I think the alcohol overpowers this a little too much (I know it's a triple), but I think this beer would be even better if they got it around 9%.

355ml bottle poured into tulip 90 minuets shy of 420 2016

A slight haze in a golden orange body, a thin film has no retention and leaves no lace, and when I think about it I shouldn't really expect much, looks thick and some wide legs form

S the nose is massive tropical fruit, mango, passion fruit, pineapple, guava, it runs the gauntlet in a big way, a little dank, a mild booze sting, some caramel and pine, shes smelling sexy

T more dank then the nose, more booze, more pine, more of everything really other then the massive tropical notes found on the nose, solid but a step back

M thick, could use some more bubbles, overkill on the IBU's, some heat but for 11.5% I'd say its well managed, my lips are stuck together, and heavy pine resin just keeps going

O the nose was so promising and the rest just didn't follow through at that world class level, don't get me wrong its a great little monster hop bomb but not that life changing beer I was expecting after smelling it

She's a hop bomb I'll give it that and its just on the edge of true greatness but falls short at merely great, still an expensive 6er here in Alberta but considering the strength I could see myself buying it again

Very thick, it's like the viscosity of refined honey. Heavy pine taste, alot of hop residue, some citrus. Leaves the roof of your mouth tingling. Yet it's really good annd easy to drink. It's very smooth for the abv.

This beer pours a crystal clear golden color with a dense one finger light khaki head. Retention is excellent and there is next to no lacing. Smell is DANK. Citrus, pine, floral and earthiness dance in the background, but dis shit dankkkk. Taste is much more balanced than the smell. Sweet and bready malts go toe to toe with the onslaught of hops, but eventually they lose out to a tingly, dry bitter finish. Feel is full side of medium, and very resinous. Sticky icky icky. Slight bit of alcohol present in the finish, but not boozy at all for >11%. Overall a great beer. Can see why this is their ode to 4/20 for sure.

Served in a snifter glass right from the bottle.

Appearance: Transparent Amber body with a slight haze to it, off-white head initially rose to about a finger's length and settles quick after a sip with almost no lacing...looks beautiful.

Smell: Malty scent with hard hits of floral pedals and deep citrus. Strong scent, after a minute or so you can still feel it and that alone gets extra points with me.

Taste: Nice complex monster consisting of grapefruit and orange skin, more hits of hops and smooth malts where the alcohol doesn't overpower the taste. Lightly citrusy sweet...I'm in lust.

Mouth: Medium to heavy carbonation coming off super sticky.

Overall: My biggest regret was only buying one bottle, what was I thinking. Under cover was my favorite Lagunita's beer till I met this animal. Salud!

Poured into an Imperial pint glass, the beer is a rich copper with a thick and sticky off-white head.

This beer has a pretty impressive aroma. You can smell it from a few feet away. It is a fruit salad.

The beer leads with a 1 -2 punch of sweetness and bitterness. The sweetness is a surprise but works well with the juicy hops. The hops are floral, tropical and also lend a citrus note. There is just a bit of heat, but considering the ABV, it’s easily incorporated into the beer. Mouth becomes almost puckering after a few sips.

The mouth is silky, oily and coating.

I really like this. It is a great beer and a great value.

Pours nearly clear amber/yellow with a very thin head. Smell is hoppy, like having actual hop cones in your hand. Very green and citrusy. Taste is very hoppy upfront then the taste backs off to a pleasant level of bitterness. Feel is a bit of alcohol burn but has a full body. If you like IPA's this is for you.
Side note: I find it good/interesting. The wife, who is not an IPA fan, really doesn't like it.

Believe it. This beer is the truth. Years from now when people are stabbing each other and hawking single bottles on craigslist for 20 bucks, we who were lucky enough to grab some will regale our children with tales of how we purchased it for $11.99 a six pack when it was first released. "Is it true Daddy?" the young ones will ask.. "Yes child" we will answer... "In the before-time... in the long long ago... before mankind traded in it's decency for the pursuit of liquid hoppy goldness. One beer was brewed in secret..... and given to the palates of men..One beer to rule them all.... This is the one beer... It is...precious to me...

``The hoppiest beer ever brewed at Lagunitas'' was poured from a bottle into a Goose Island tulip (hoppiest beer? from the folks behind Hop Stoopid, that's a scary endorsement). The pour is very clear with a stunning copper-gold color and a perfect 2.5 fingers of coarse head with average retention and nice clumpy lacing. Lots of fresh oranges, lemons, peaches, and mangoes on the nose.

Medium-full body with a creamy feel and a spectacular sweet-and-bitter flavor. Loads of fruity, hoppy goodness bombards your palate from start to finish, but this beer is so balanced and there is so much malt, it doesn't punish you as much as you think it will. I get loads of fresh bread, marmalade, lemon rind, pineapple, and apricots. That substantial malt backbone lends a caramel-like sweetness that plays perfectly against the salvo from the hop artillery. Really intense flavor. It's one thing to make a really hoppy beer (many of them taste like shit), but it's another thing to make one this hoppy that tastes so good. It's a freaking magic trick.

A crazy-good IIPA that was a steal at $10.99 per six-pack (if I remember correctly, it was something like that). It has the hop profile of the original Ruination, the flavor of Molotov Cocktail, and the mouthfeel of Dreadnaught. I will definitely pick up some more this week if the store hasn't sold out yet. Highly recommended.

Rated '15 and '16. On tap at Capitol Tap Room, Sacramento. Big in your face hops, both aroma and taste. Copper orange golden body with small soapy head. Resinous hops in the aroma, even more so in the taste. Short but intense finish, late warmth.

Pouring from the 12oz bottle Waldos rolls out a darker shade of amber with honey hues, there's a slight haze to it, but the beer is still transparent. A small one finger head of densely packed bubbles slowly builds up and leaves spotty lacing.

The smell on this one is just awesome, there's a wallop of sweet tropical fruits, lots of pineapple. You also get big hop notes throughout: resin, dankness, and hops oils are so pronounced. It starts very sweet and malty, you get a lot of the fruit here, mangos and pineapple at the forefront. This bleeds into the raw hop flavors with a lingering resin and pine note. The finish is bold, there's some heat from the alcohol as well as a sucker punch of bitterness. It finishes somewhat clean, but the hop oils stick to the mouth for sometime after the sip.

Overall this is a big, bold, hoppy beer that pulls no punches. It is teetering into the Triple IPA category and does so confidently. It is by far one of the best DIPAs I've had that has topped 11% ABV. While I am much more of a fan of lighter bodied IPAs, I am thoroughly impressed by this one.

Pours a hazy orange color with 1/2 a finger of a white foamy head. Retention ring around the edge of the glass. Decent lacing.

Aroma is an absolute tropical bomb! So munch mango, grapefruit, pineapple, and generic citrus notes. Totally hop-centric with some nice pine character as well. Alcohol is detected in the aroma.

Taste is big and boisterous. Feel is thick and pretty juicy. The beer transitions from tropical and juicy to dank with onion and garlic notes. Moderate-high hop bitterness with a present alcohol heat on the finish with slight undertones throughout the sip.

Overall, this is a monster of a beer. It's a hop bomb that is all over the map: citrus, pine, tropical, and dank. For me, it's a bit thick and syrupy, but that's just personal preference I suppose. I don't see this pairing well with most foods, but I suppose something relatively bland would work, such as roasted chicken and white rice. The star of the show is the beer and all of the varying hop characters. It gets a 89/100.

Triple IPA from Lagunitas pours dark straw color. Aroma is dankness personified. Taste is floral and overripe pineapple, and dank. Pretty hot the 11.5% is not only evident it' affects my rating a little. Good beer, I think I liked last years version better which was a little smoother.
