L: Pours a deep copperish color.

S: Delightful tropical citrusy grapefruit-like hops: Amarillo for sure. Some bready malt makes its way into the aroma as well. You might say it smells like a tamed DIPA.

T: Fruity, tropical, and seriously citrusy hops come out and hold through till the end. Breadlike malt also makes quite an appearance, especially towards the finish, with some nuttiness as well. Despite the hoppiness, this beer isn’t too bitter; more like a malt-forward DIPA.

F: Medium body with medium/light carbonation. A little bit of warmth from the alcohol post-sip, but pretty damn tame for the abv. Leaves a pleasant slick feel on the palate.

O: A very nice little big beer. One of those that defies stylistic categories, making it an appropriate and worthy ‘anniversary’ beer. Fine showcase of Amarillo hops (in a non-IPA I might add), very well hidden alcohol, and yet another quality inexpensive offering from a great brewery. Keep em coming, Lagunitas!

Poured from bottle into pint glass

Serving temp: 50d F

Appearance: Fairly clear, golden amber, decent head that quickly drops to 1/8"

Aroma: fruity... citrus and grapefruit wins the aroma battle with some excellent hop aroma.

Taste: Smell, then taste. Tastes like you think it will.

This is a pretty smooth offering for 8.9% ABV. The mouthfeel is great, and it is getting better as it warms up a bit. Carbonation is high. Very good lacing around the glass as I drink. I like this beer for a $4.25 Bomber.

22oz. bomber served in a snifter.

A: Very clear honey yellow with noticeable carbonation. Very spectacular lacing.

S: Tropical fruit candy and sweet malts. Smells amazing.

T: Very citrus forward with lots of hop juiciness, but with just enough malt to balance it all together very nicely. I'm not getting the "Imperial Blonde" taste at all, but that's okay because this is still awesome.

M: Medium carbonation with a long, tingly and fruity finish.

O: Another home run for Lagunitas in my books. I hate buying bombers, but Lagunitas makes them super affordable, and this one is definitely worth the $4.99 I paid for it.

Single bottle from Consumer Beverages in Orchard Park, NY. No sign of a freshness date.

Poured into a Duvel goblet. Copper-amber in colour, nice crown of foam, with some great retention and flecks of lacing.

Nose is quite lovely – good citrus notes, sweet malt, tropical fruit, caramel, nice citric hop bitterness.

Very tasty, fits somewhere in the midst of an American Barleywine, strong ale and DIPA. Sweet sugary malt, caramel and milk chocolate is kept in check with tropical fruit (orange, pineapple, mango) and citrus bitterness. Not a hint of booze to be found, very easy to drink. Wonderful mouthfeel – carbonation is just present enough to cleanse the palate, nice and creamy.

Wonderful brew, well worth a pickup. Good mix of style elements, wonderful to drink.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a pint glass.

This pours a clear copperish color with a nice slightly off white head. The smell is a little sweet, I get some pine and citrus hops, kind of reminds me of their little sumpin. The feel is thicker than expected, its on the heavier end of medium body. The taste is different than expected, there is the sweetness, lots of caramel and toffee, the hop bitterness is a little off, with a weird after taste (ripe orange peals?) and there is more alcohol flavor and burn than I was expecting (noticeable booziness) This is okay, but I doubt I get it again, little sumin is way better from this.

A: Pours a golden/amber straw color with a thin head that leaves a full sticky lacing.
S: Citrus and floral hops with a hint of sweet malt. Light fruity sweetness - bubblegum or banana.
T: A nice blend of bubblegum, citrus and floral hops, sweet malt, lemon, clove, and cinnamon.
M: Smooth and somewhat creamy with a touch of carbonation.
O: An interesting and solid beer. I've already tried several of these over the last few days and would definitely buy more.

I got firkin’ lucky with this one.

(That is, I got Lucky 13 on firkin. At the beer sanctuary.)

This poured a copper-caramel color with amazing foam retention. Seriously! The cap of foam held its shape even after 15 minutes. Impressive.

The aroma come across like a sweet malt smack with a slightly dank fist of resiny hops.

As I taste it I find there’s a pronounced bitterness which contrasts with the malty sweetness. Like a barleywine or scotch ale I get a long, lingering finish, some piney hops, a bitter peak, and lots of malt sweetness. I liked it.

Updated from the bottle:

This pours a deep hued amber with light foam.
I find aromas of orange and orange marmalade, orange peel, and a sweet caramel note rounding it out.
I taste a lot of orange and citrus hops, defined by a midpoint bitterness and held together by a pleasant caramel malt character. There’s a malty sweet finish. A beer big enough for the hop head in me, but malty enough for those who shy from the lupulin.

Type: 22-oz. bomber
Glass: Lagunitas mason jar
From: Clem’s Bottle House and Deli
Price: $5.99
Misc.: N/A

Poured a caramel orange clear color with two fingers of white head. Nice uneven, foamy lacing all the way down. Decent retention as well.

Smelled a refreshing surprise of hops up front. Got very sweet floral hops first. Also pine, citrus, sharp, but light grapefruit, lemon, light lime and orange peel. Basically smelled like a floral IPA.

Tasted similar to the smell, which is a good thing. Still reminded me or an IPA more than an American Strong Ale. Got those sweet, sugar floral hops. Nice bitterness on the tongue after. Citrus, lemon, lime, pine, sharp grapefruit. Very good.

Light body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, bitter finish.

Really liked this beer. I really didn’t even know what type it was when I bought it and found out home when I checked Beer Advocate (hiding the rating with my hand of course). Another good beer from Lagunitas.

Poured from a bomber into a tulip glass.

A: Slightly hazy, light amber color with one finger of diminishing off-white foam head. Heavy lacing remains on the glass and a few bubbles crawl up through the column.

S: Malty and over-attenuated, with minimal hop influence. No alcohol is detected.

T: Begins off-dry, with tangy and grainy caramel malt, and some fruity dark citrus. Acidity is fairly mild before the middle, where the early flavors taper off and some pine is established. The finish is slightly roasty and not overly bitter, with lingering dark citrus flavors. No alcohol is detected.

M: Medium viscosity, slightly syrupy and sticky on the palate, with moderate carbonation.

D/O: This beer is practically a re-creation of Lagunitas' spring strong ale, Undercover Investigation Shutdown, full of all-too-common features such as pungent and under-attenuated grain that drowns out even what was likely a robust hop bill. Its signature Lagunitas qualities could be detected by a beer-obsessed shark from three miles away.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a Libbey stout glass.

A: Pours a golden-amber with a nice white head. Great lacing and retention.

S: Huge tropical hops and light malt sweetness in the nose. Perfumy papaya and strawberry.

T: Boozy tropical and citric hops over a strong pale malt base. Mango, orange, papaya, solvent alcohol.

M: Decent carbonation, medium-bodied.

O: Great showcase for Lagunitas' hop usage, but doesn't really seem that different from a DIPA to me.
