Lucky 13 is in Lagunitas sweet spot. Well done. Try 24.
Lagunitas creates a double, triple ALT style that is original, sweet, hoppy, thick and good. Wine like beer.
A - pours a clear amber orange body with a long lived short white head that films and laces.
S - Nose is a melange of fresh pineapple and citrus fruit salad on top of a molten malty core.
T - Flavors are nicely assertive with masculine, rich, fresh bitter hop/grapefruit and lemon rind on top of a malt core that's like a river of molten malt caramel. Boldness and brightness with big complex, warring flavors between bitter and sweet - which is the best of beer.
F - Mouthfeel is big, bold, creamy, rich. Finishes clean, hides the 8.8% abv with mouth weight, and invites spicy, asian or Mediterranean food.
Finish is long bitter grapefruit with pine. One of my favorites from Lagunitas. Core, molten glass, smooth malt.

Dark burnt copper color, 1/2" off white head. Aroma was very different than the reg Lucky 13, gone are hops, replaced with. . . nothing really.
Still good at hiding the alcohol, bitterness and hop flavors are replaced with toffee smoothness. Some smoothness, an edge of caramel. The hopping isn't totally absent, but relative to Lagunitas normal version of this, its definitely understated. Mild citrus breadiness.
Prefer the OG.

L: Pours a deep copperish color.
S: Delightful tropical citrusy grapefruit-like hops: Amarillo for sure. Some bready malt makes its way into the aroma as well. You might say it smells like a tamed DIPA.
T: Fruity, tropical, and seriously citrusy hops come out and hold through till the end. Breadlike malt also makes quite an appearance, especially towards the finish, with some nuttiness as well. Despite the hoppiness, this beer isn’t too bitter; more like a malt-forward DIPA.
F: Medium body with medium/light carbonation. A little bit of warmth from the alcohol post-sip, but pretty damn tame for the abv. Leaves a pleasant slick feel on the palate.
O: A very nice little big beer. One of those that defies stylistic categories, making it an appropriate and worthy ‘anniversary’ beer. Fine showcase of Amarillo hops (in a non-IPA I might add), very well hidden alcohol, and yet another quality inexpensive offering from a great brewery. Keep em coming, Lagunitas!
