From notes taken 03/20/17:

Bright golden yellow, mostly clear but with “inky” hazy swirls. Lighter cream-white head of foam, with decent retention and lacing. Oranges, lemon rinds, resin, grass aromas. Malt and hops combine for an overall fairly tart flavor, but there’s a good balance toward grains as well as light caramel on the malt side, and grass, rind, and black pepper on the hop side. Finish is surprisingly dank for how light this is in all other regards. Medium-bodied, very fine, sparse, and gentle carbonation, just sloshy enough to not be flat.

Big lemon sherbert aroma
Some pine flavour
Nice easy drinking beer with a hoppy edge

S: tropical fruit and citrus supported by rich biscuit. Hop and fruit aromas are medium and malt aromas are medium to medium low.

L: bright gold with a slight haze under a 1" cream colored foam collar with moderate retention. Streams of bubbles rapidly rise form the bottom.

T: creamy slightly sweet palate with citrus and light malts, and traces of tropical fruit. Hoppy fruit flavors are medium, malt flavors are medium low and hop bitterness is medium. It dries on the finish with a little mineral character.

F: The body is medium light and the carbonation is medium high.

O: This is a light, full flavored, very refreshing and very session-able beer.

Appearance: pours a golden yellow color with a 1" head that slowly falls.

Smell: light citrus tones rise from the glass.

Taste: caramel, lemon zest, orange, a hint of pine, and a moderate bitterness level.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer, Crisp throughout. Short lasting aftertaste with this beer,

Overall: a decent IPA but overall not a big fan of the lower ABV IPAs as they lack some depth in flavor.

Appearance: Pours a clear goldenstraw color with a perky little head; nice stickage and a pretty good coat of lace

Smell: Grassy and somewhat sulfur-filled

Taste: Crisp and dry, with a growing grassy aspect; a hint of lemon, through the middle, with a dry finish

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate carbonation; slightly aqueous

Overall: I like a good session IPA but this one tastes rather Germanic, more like a session pils; maybe it's old but without a bottle date, who can tell?

It pours a light yellow with plenty of carbonation. The smell is of citrus(a lemon and orange combined). The taste is the same but with a sweetness to it. The body is thin with just a bit of bite to it. Overall one really enjoyable drink.

This is a great beer but I don't understand why this is supposedly an IPA, hmm. Anyways, this is an incredible session ale. Great maltiness and very very light hops and bitterness. I could easily toss back a few of these and be happy.

My favorite session beer. Lots of flavor, stuck between a super clean IPA and a smooth, but bitter pilsner. Very refreshing. Pine flavor with a dry finish, not very malty. Very very slight hints of citrus (not fruity) with a nice yellow color and a medium white head. Gotta say, Lagunitas nailed this session. Hard to find in Richmond, VA though. Total Wine and grocers don't seem to carry it. Found a convenience store with a unusually good craft beer selection that stocks it regularly (next to Snead's Nursery on Huguenot Road), if you're going by local reviews.

Poured from a 12oz bottle,into a Funky Buddha snifter.

Thin, soapy, white head, dissolves fast, leaving a sticky ring around the glass, with some patching in the center.Light gold in color, with nice clarity.Light carbonation.

On the nose I get mostly bright citrus notes, backed by some sweet malts, and honey. The aroma is definitely a sweet one.

The palate is pretty bland in my opinion.Bitter hops, sweet malts, maybe a little hint of tropical fruits...Not much else, and not enough to move the needle. In my opinion. Not bad tasting, just not anything special.

The body is thin, with a dry finish.

This is an okay beer, doesn't really stand out in any way,and not something I will buy in the future. But worth a try at least.

Lagunitas Brewing Co. "Day Time Ale"
12 fl. oz brown glass bottle, production coded but not freshness dated. Sampled 30 NOV 16
$2 @ Giant, St. Davids, PA

Lagunitas' Day Time Ale pours a clear yellow-gold body beneath a full head of frothy white foam that slowly erodes into thin piles of fluff floating on the surface. Could the head retention be better? Yes, but at least the initial presentation is good. Unfortunately, once the head has dropped the lacing is quite limited.

The nose is clearly hoppy and bright, as might be expected from a dry-hopped IPA. It's citrusy with plenty of lemon, a touch of orange, and some other fruits as well, perhaps apricot. It's also a touch floral and resinous/piney which is nice. The malt that comes through is limited, appearing more like crackers than grain or bread. That's OK though, the hops are more than enough to carry it.

The flavor follows with just a limited maltiness that is actually cracker-like, but plenty of lemony, grapefruity, and orange-like hops. It's well-balanced given the limited malt, and the hop bitterness is firm but not pressing. It's fruity, crisp, and dry, leaving you immediately ready for another sip. Is that because it's so enticing, however, or is it because you're still looking for something more?

Light-medium in body, it's crisp across the palate with a delicately bristling standard carbonation level.

As a "fractional IPA", or session IPA, it works. I'm not sure that the 4.65% ABV still won't get to you if you drink more than one, but it's at least slightly lower than Budweiser (5.0%, but still stronger than Guinness Draught at just 4.0%). In fact, as a standard, refreshing ale it also works. I'd love to see this in cans for use in outdoor activities.

Poured into a 12 oz snifter. A light golden color with good carbonation. The nose is of floral and citrus hops. There is a bright explosion in the nose. The flavor follows right in line with the nose. The citrus and piney hop are highlighted. The body is thinner, but expected for this style. There is a slight sweetness that comes through on the back end that let's you know there is some balance. They do a great job on making sure this is a session IPA.

On tap at the Chicago brewery. Pale gold and clear. Lots of Citra on the nose, plenty in the taste too. Not much malt. Sure it is a session, but it is a solid beer. I would add this to my rotation if it hit the grocery store shelfs

Had on tap at Lagunitas in Petaluma. Decided that after one of their stronger beers I should go with something light and with a low ABV. This session IPA hit the spot. Best session IPA I've ever had. Light and bright golden. Smells of citrus mostly, some pine. Tastes of plenty of hops, but with a malty sweetness as well. Not really bitter at all. Feel is massively refreshing. Light and airy. Overall a great summertime beer.

Comes in a light straw colored yellow with a 3/4" white head. Aroma was just a huge blast of green vegetal hop notes, jam packed like the girl 'volunteer' on the fire department. Just full of it. Good medley.

Taste was all hops. Malt be damned. Lots of pine and pineapple. Such a versatile beer too, crushability in so many different situations. So light, yet so damn hoppy with very little bitterness and tons of citrus, pine and tropical fruit notes in the mouthfeel.

This is really the best relatively easy and obtainable session ipa out there. Elite stuff, affordable price, no low bottle counts or draft only situations. This is how you do session ipa.

This an unusual light straw color for an IPA, but put it to the nose and I knew I had an IPA.
But then with a taste, it goes down hill for the Lagunitas standard. The hops could be more subtle and the mouth maltier... despite the relatively low alcohol, more could have been done. As mostly an IPA observer (or at least not devotee), I'm developing a theory that some hops are better-suited for the dry-hopping process and others are not. The hops in DayTime do not seem well-suited.
OA: not the best IPA Lagunitas has. Tho, try it.

Light greenish-yellow straw color with a thin but foamy white head. Nice orange, lemon, and grapefruit smell, with no detectable malt presence. Taste was hoppy as expected, with grapefruit, passionfruit, and pine. Some faint white bread. It's a bit thin, but definitely not "hop water." Nice easy drinker.

L: Clear yellow in color, a bit boring.
S: Nice hints of floral notes, light smell.
T: On the light side, very session-like brew between pilsner and a light IPA. Refreshing but maybe too light. for most occasions.
F: Mouth feel a bit too light and hollow.

Appearance: Clear light yellow with bright white clouds of cap diminishing to a light cover.

Aroma: Clean, fresh hop signature with traces of mild malt underneath.

Taste: A paper like dryness weaving through the flavor. Straight mild malt with hops forward and an almost surprising malt hop balance that elevates the whole. A well constructed beer. Hops follow to the end with no residual hop bitterness in the afterrtaste which is pleasantly malty.

Texture: Medium weight with a sense of lightness if that makes sense. Medium anyway.

Overall: Well crafted beer with flavor enough to be satisfying and intriguing enough to encourage another. A beer to share with friends and discuss.

This may be a case of some level of skunkiness, but I don't think it is. Underwhelming, even by session IPA standards. All right, but nothing to write home about.

12 oz bottle poured into English pint glass.

L - Pours nearly clear, golden color with two fingers of foam that disappear fairly quick but leaves a good half inch lacing.

S - Citrus and hops up front, but peach, mango, and tropical fruit follow. That definitely adds to the feel that this would be a light, sessionable brew.

T - Piney citrus, similar to its cousin(?) IPA. But again, peach, mango, and tropical fruit mixed in. Not bad, refreshing.

M - Light, crisp, medium carbonation. Lives up to its name as a "DayTime" beer. Very drinkable.

O - A nice, toned-down version of their IPA...whatever a "fractional" IPA is--likely a fraction of the alcohol (4.65%). Not to mention 40 fewer calories (if you're keeping count). A very good session ale I'd buy again.

Poured a pale yellow with a two finger brilliant white fizzy head that remained as a thin head throughout the session. Heavy lacing. Aroma was very mild minty citrus. Sweet citrus on the tongue with a pine finish. Not very bitter. Crisp and clean taste. Carbonation and body is light - moderate. This is very drinkable but I am not sure it is remarkable enough for me to buy it again.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip

A- pours a clear and bright golden color with a small foamy white head that retains nicely after the pour

S- leafy and minty hops up front with highlights of citrus rind and mango. Clean underlying malt

T- grapefruit zest, lemon & peach up front, the flavor drops off as it nears the finish, leaving just a linget of clean toasted malt.

M- medium body and carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel and a dry crisp finish

O- definitely a session beer, but not much going on. It drinks more like a pale, with a clean finish

I'm new to good beer after a lifetime (20 drinking years!) of bad beer (Bud Light and whatnot!). Bought 2 singles from Beer Junction in Seattle. Poured into a plastic Safeway cup. Two fingers of head and I'm sure there were some nice lacings, but I could not see due to the white on the inside of the plastic cup. Got a good blast of citrus and pinch of pine that reminded me of the time I stepped on some pine resin and had to clean it off my shoes so my wife wouldn't get angry at me when I walked into the house. Very nice carbonation, quite sweet, and very drinkable. I drank the two I bought in the car, in the parking lot, and then quickly went back for another sixer------- it was that good. I finished half of that sitting in the parking lot after going through the nearby drive through of Taco Time. I can say this beer goes great with Mexi Fries and nicely compliments a deep fried meat burrito, for what that is worth. After those first five brews I started thinking of my high school sweetheart and how miserable my goddamn life if at the moment, but that is a whole nother story!
Overall this is a well balanced , smooth drinking, super tasty, not too nasty hoppy, super fresh shot of sessiony goodness. I will definitely drink it again. Nice thing is the ABV is half of some strong IPAs I have tried, so I was able to finish all eight of the beers I bought before I got home and my wife and kids could hardly tell!

Pours a straw color with a frothy lace that retains well. Fruity in the nose.. green grapes, light tropical fruit and grapefruit. The taste, in addition to its citric/grapefruit like qualities, has a slightly lemony and subtly tart feel that makes it quite refreshing. The herbal and peppery hops bitterness and flavor is there but very subdued and felt in the finish, which is also dry. Light bodied and crisp. A solid session IPA that is drinkable and quaffable. I could see myself having many.
