Notes
A-Pours dark with a thin tan head. Minimal light penetration. Head leaves almost no trace along the glass.
S-A pleasant mixture of tart and roast. I was initially quite surprised by the tartness found in the nose; I didn't expect it to be that pungent. Behind the sour are the standard Stout aromas.
T-I really liked this. The satisfying sourness mixes quite well with the beer's core flavors. Almost like a tart, unripened fruit dipped in chocolate.
M-Lighter than expected. There is some viscosity but the flavors seem to contradict the beer's body which lends a high level of drinkability.
O/D-A very pleasant surprise enjoyed at the brewpub itself. Hopefully I will be able to enjoy this again someday.

On tap for Churchill's Renaissance 2013 at Churchill's Pub & Grille in San Marcos, CA.
Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, plums, prunes, and spices. Taste is much the same with a sour frutiy flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with some interesting aromas and flavors.
