Notes: Thanks for choosing to spend the next few minutes with this special homicidally hoppy ale. Savor the moment as the raging hop character engages the Imperial Qualities of the Malt Foundation in mortal combat on the battlefield of your palate!

This is our unique version of an ancient style. A style as old as the ocean trade routes of the last centuries of Great Ships. Not as old as the equator they had to cross twice en route, nor as old as the 10,000 miles or so of Di-Hydrogen Oxide and Sodium upon which they sailed, but older than the Circulithium-4 Lentoid that binds the Lupulin Quartnate onto your taste buds. Weird. Think about it. Now stop. OK, go again. Now stop. Think again. And stop. But we digress. Made with 43 different hops and 65 various malts, this redolent ale will likely float your boat, whatever planet you're on.

A - Restrained pour into an authentic British pint glass producing a solid gold transparent brew with moderate carbonation and one finger snow-white head.

S - Floral notes, hops, citrus. Typical of the style, nothing out of the ordinary or unexpected here.

T - Floral, bitter, citrus, and hops. Good tasting IPA with a slight snap to it.

M - Thin, non-lingering on palate. Dry and clean.

D - I've had much better IPAs. With that being said, this isn't bad for a basic IPA. Good starting point for those wanting to explore the style.

I’ve had this many times before, but, having just joined the site, I decided to write a review this time. The beer is dated 6/3/14 (about two months old). It pours a straw yellow that borders on copper under certain lighting. The aroma is pleasant with a subtle citrus characteristic, but predominantly earthy resinous hops. The taste has more citrus than the nose would suggest and is full of orange and lemon zest. The beer finishes with a sturdy, resinous hop bitterness that lingers on the tongue for awhile. It is medium bodied with a modest amount of carbonation, which suits the style well. Overall, a solid beer. At a reasonable price, it is a nice go-to beer.

This beer is widely available, which tends to have a negative impact on the ratings. I will tell you that this beer is excellent. Sierra Nevada Pale is widely available and is one of the best pale ales out there. This is a top 10 IPA. This is my first IPA and I think one of the mount rushmore IPA's that opened the floodgates for this category. What I like best about it is that it is smooth compared to the one sided dominant hop profiles that seem to dominate the landscape to the detriment of the beer. Yes, I love hops but all hops and no balance does not a beer make. Lagunitas is delicious and is one of those rare beers that actually taste better from the bottle than on tap. It is a top 10 IPA. Nuff said.

Pours with a nice head with medium sized bubbles. Bit of lacing. Soon dissipates to a line. Clear and darkish amber brew. Aroma of lemon, grapefruit, butterscotch, toffee and caramel. Front of mouth: feel of carbonation on the tongue. Mid mouth: explosion of grapefruit hoppyness swirling with a carbonation burst. Back of mouth: toffee with citrus and a sharp, almost sour, bitterness which goes no further. After the swallow, there is a lingering toffee bitterness with a slight metallic afterglow. |Grapefruit toffee burbs to follow. The mouthfeel is thick and lasting and overall, it is a pretty sweet beer. I have not tried many American IPAs. When I tried my first 'C' hop beer, I thought it was overkill but these provide something new to the palate which has grown on me. My first impression of this, is that it tastes somewhat synthetic and too bold but I am used to English IPAs which are far more subtle. The tastes do not feel complex but of just a few components. I am hoping this style will grow on my and there will be no turning back. The initial shock is, probably, just my immaturity when it comes to American IPAs but I guess it is a cultural thing where American tastes lack the subtlety and heritage of European beers but make bold tastes which strikes out into new territory (excuse the pun). It will be interesting to see where this leads in the long run but this is a very good beer.

Sampled on tap at The Taphouse in Red Deer. This is an extremely enjoyable IPA. Light, citrusy, and outdoorsy (if that makes any sense). I found this to be a balanced and refreshing IPA - I would not hesitate to pick up another!

A - Pours a hazy honey color with a 1 inch white head that fades to nothing. Good ring lacing on this beer.

S - Smells of citrus zest, pine needles, and malt.

T - Bitter pine hops, acidic citrus zest, sweet malt finish. Very very tasty.

M - Perfect carbonation on this beer. Dry with a well done bitter/acidic coating in the mouth.

D - Superb. Easy drinking and super tasty makes for a great beer.

Hard to find a bad beer from these guys. Deep golden pour with sticky white top. Aroma is pine and malt. Flavor is more of the same, with a bit of a bite at the finish that just brings you back for more. Malty, piney goodness, smooth stuff.

Pretty disappointing IPA really, everything is just slightly sub par which in my experience makes the whole thing just average or maybe a little less. Won’t be giving this one a second chance. Also not a bit fan of the extremely bitter aftertaste.

Thick, dense, foamy head sitting atop a gold-colored body; tightly packed carbonation bubbles slowly rising. Citrus rind aroma; pine and orange marmalade. Mild malt notes with a very good presence of orange flavor. Medium body; somewhat coarse on the palate with the carbonation; wet, initially, with a semi-dry finish.

This beer rates a solid "yeah, boy". It doesn't set any new standards and won't stand-out as anything exceptional, but there is no denying it's pleasing taste and easy drinkability. Solid and very pleasing in an understated yet very satisfying manner...

Poured from 22 oz bottle to glass. Moderate hoppy scent with the usual west coast IPA pine/grassy undercurrent aroma. Colour is amber/yellow with light head. Taste like a typical American IPA. Not bad at all, but not special either. Light Mouthfeel goes down smooth. For the price I would have expected a little more bitter flavour and a little higher ABV. But it's still not bad.

Look: Crystal clear, dark gold body with a nearly pure white head which starts out as an opaque film, but quickly melts into a smattering of bubbles.

Smell: A light mix of floral and citrus hops creates a nice orange blossom perfume. It is somewhat disrupted, however, by an out of place pils malt aroma.

Taste: While the crisp hop bitterness is IPA-Worthy, the hop flavor is disappointingly light. A tinge of citrus pushes through with limited success. Nothing off-putting here, however, and thecstrange maltiness in the aroma is absent in the taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light bodied, but with a suggestion of creaminess in the finish. A refreshing balance of dryness and juiciness is perfectly complemented by medium carbonation.

Overall: No flaws, but no excitement. Had the bitterness been higher, the lack of flavor could have been overlooked more easily, but this beer seems to play a practical joke on unrequited taste buds. The excellent mouthfeel is wasted on this snoozer.

Went out for dinner: local tavern/hotspot. Mardi Gras fare for the evening: shrimp etouffée, blackened chicken, Cajun catfish, sides. Thought an IPA might be good with this. Good wine selections. Excellent cocktails. No beer on tap, but large selection. Asked what IPAs were available, and waitress suggested the Lagunitas.
Fully aware of brand, but never had the IPA. Had Lagunitas something/sometime/somewhere. Meh.

Perfect pairing with dinner fare. Greatly enjoyed this solid IPA. Could not put my finger on it, and other reviews were bland.
So, went to Lagunitas website: 6.2% ABV; 51 IBU. But 45 different hops, and 62 malts? No way. Really? Pulling my leg? What I do know is that I thought this was a really solid meal-or-no-meal beer. I had “several”. And, will definitely drink again. Good job, Lagunitas.

12oz bottle from 2.21.05 enjoyed today, April 2, 2015, from a teku

A: Clear gold with a bit of ruby or garnet tones

S: Light notes of orange and lemon; some light sweetness

T: Pretty citrusy and bready, a little spicy and a little bitter, with a bit of orange rind on the finish.

M: Light- to medium-bodied with fairly active carb. Leaves a dry, bitter tingle on the finish

O: Solid IPA that's a great value at $8.99/sixer. Nothing spectacular, but it's tasty, bottle-dated, and inexpensive…and thus always a good option.

Very good. Feels heavy, and is not suitable for "light enjoyment" (probably inevitable because of alcohol percentage), but still very soft feel overall and is delightful to drink. The taste of fruit present at the aftertaste... is just excellent. The taste kind of attacked me very aggressively and I was shocked. Very well recommended.

Well, very surprised and pleased with this IPA. Didn't expect it to be soo smooth. Delightful, yet unexpected. Have only tried their Imperial Stout. Decided to venture more into the unknown... pours very light off golden color with a more than typical white head. Nice lacing to boot. Smells of citrus, alil pine in there too and some fruits. Very smooth didnt not expect, was expecting more hops but it likey very much. After taste not bitter ar all. Defintley will pursue in the future. Cheers

On draft at the Abbey in Providence RI. Nice color and nose, but underwhelming with the overall taste and flavor profile. Nothing wrong, but just average for me. Might also have been that I was expecting more.

For all the hype I found this very disappointing, not nearly as bitter as I was led to believe, way too balanced, kind of like a middle of the road Democrat or centrist Republican -- neither here nor there.

The best IPA I've had so far (then again I've only had 3 kinds). Smells of lots of citrusy grapefruit, lemon and maybe even a bit of tangerine, but also subtle pine and malt along with it. Pretty smooth with the citrus and pine coming throughon the taste with a nice lingering bitterness. Can't wait to drink it again.

Golden amber like color.
Smelled a little citrusy with a pine aroma.
I could taste some hop presence along with some mild bitterness and citrus like notes.
Mild amount of carbonation.
This is a very nice IPA and for the price (about $16 for a 12 pack) it's a home run!

Appearance - 4/5
A very bright and clear orange, with two fingers of off-white head. A good amount of carbonation can be seen rising up the beer.

Smell - 4/5
Strong pine aromas, slightly resinous.

Taste - 3.75/5
Very hoppy, but not very bitter. I would describe this as a "mellowed-out" hops flavor. Lots of hops flavor, but not as aggressive and biting. Very piney and resinous hops, with some additional herbaceous flavor (reminds me of a forest of pine trees).

Mouthfeel - 3.75/5
Medium bodied, medium-light amount of medium-light intensity carbonation. Slightly crisp, and smooth going down.

Overall - 3.75/5
This was a good IPA. I'm not a huge IPA guy but I enjoyed this beer.
