On tap at the 2014 Secret Stash Bash (Atlanta).

The very fine stout that serves as the base for this special edition gets a bit lost in this barrel aged version, especially the coffee. But this is, nonetheless, a fine barrel aged brew. The barrel effects dominate but are not overwhelming, leaving some dark roasted malts showing.
Has a fine smooth feel, although the alcohol shows more than I would hope.

Beautiful dark amber body is covered by a very durable beige head.

O: worth seeking out.

Mini-growler picked up at Brewer's Haven in Boise over the weekend... Poured tonight... Short lasting dark brown head... the brew is black and seems to be a little thin but has some decent legs.

Nose is a great boozy mix of coffee and coconut!! Coconut/dark chocolate is pretty amazingly out front. meaty and vanilla with lesser stout qualities..

Flavor is bigger boozy than expected, but not a deal breaker... again a pretty big coconut component with some whiskey/dark chocolate notes... vanilla and toasty oak move from front to back with the "stout" elements showing as milk chocolate and tying things together.

Body is a little light given the hefty ABV.. but still it seems pretty proper.

Had this on draft at Nightmare Before Christmas itap Soulard
Real sleeper at the event.
8 oz pour into a snifter

A - Blended in perfectly with the 25 other monster stouts on draft motor oil dark as night with a khaki foam head

S - Smelled of coconut vanilla coffee chocolate cappuccino with hints of whiskey

T - Taste was much of the same with strings hints of coffee vanilla cappuccino hints alcohol was extremely well hidden. One of my favorite beers of the event

M - Creamy smooth medium to low amount of carbonation definitely served too cold but let it warm and it warmed nicely.

O - Awesome beer at this event that really stood out among the other world class stouts
Will be having this again this saturday I believe

This pours the color of a dark ruby port.

The coffee dominates the aroma with just a hint of a rye whiskey’s booze.

The flavor is sharply coffee flavored, with the coffee stout’s characteristics edging out whatever rye barrel contribution was made. It’s roasty and stout, with just a touch of heat for its strength.

On tap at Crazy Harry's in Winnetka, CA.

Pours a murky dark orange-brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. A foamy curtain of lace coats the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, coconut, vanilla, macaroon, and slight whiskey aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa, coconut, and whiskey flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty and woody bitterness and an alcohol kick on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with a nice coconut quality resulting from the barrel aging.

Pours a black color. 1/2 inch head of a tan color. Good retention and good lacing. Smells of liquor, hops, sweet malt, roasted malt, wood, slight syrup, and vanilla. Fits the style of an American Double / Imperial Stout. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of liquor, vanilla, wood, hops, sweet malt, roasted malt, and a hint of syrup. Overall, decent appearance, good aroma, body, complexity, and blend. The vanilla and liquor dominate, but to no over-power the other flavors.

Served in traditional mason pint jar

Tan head. Color is a deep brown, nearing black.

Flavors of coffee and roasted malts. The cappuccino flavor is incredible. Huge coffee, but light roast. Chocolate, caramel, vanilla, oak, rye whiskey. Tons of flavor. The barrel flavors are spot on. Just the right amount. No heat here.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, rich, creamy. Full bodied. Right about of carbonation. Ends clean.

Overall, this pint went down too fast. I wanted more, but had to drive. This is a must try beer and up there with BCS. Disregard the 4.0 on this beer and seek it out. Have a fair share, it gets better as it warms.

Draft at the taproom. Served in an aluminum pint, hard to see the color. Looks inky brown and the head retains well. Really nice nose, big chocolate presence, plenty of boozy-sweet rye whiskey, caramel and mellow integrated coffee. Palate brings a nice mix of sweetness, booze and tannins from the barrel, while the base beer gives a mocha-like chocolate and coffee backbone. Medium-full body, very nicely balanced, with a decently dry and barrel forward finish. Solid stuff, I'd drink it again.
