Very Good
Notes: The Winter Woman imperial brown ale was aged in Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels and Appleton Estate rum barrels – and since we had the name “Working Mom” (thanks Kasey!) already chosen, we felt it appropriate to age the brew in the wood for nine months.

It is wonderfully complex: Notes of the bourbon, and to a lesser extent the rum, come through, married with chocolate, toffee, fruit, and vanilla from the wood. These flavors follow along to the palate, and additionally you will get some lingering hop bitterness and the alcohol warmth that you would expect from a beer this big.

Back on draft at the taproom, Nov. 2015.
Dark brown, undetermined clarity, sharper around the edges. Thin film on the surface slinks away after the first sip, leaving a thin ring of foam at the periphery, no lacing.

Aromas of sweet and nutty malt, mild vanilla and woody bourbon barrel notes from the Woodford barrel. Kind of subdued, some astringency to it that comes out more in the taste.

Big and malty, sweet with more than a hint of boozy bourbon heat. Sharpness from the alcohol gives it a somewhat bracing astringent quality. Vanilla, wood, toasted malts, rich and sweet becoming dry in the boozy finish. Overall it tastes good but is a little rough around the edges.

12/4/17: 9 ounce $9 + tip pour into snifter at Revolution Brew Pub on Milwaukee Avenue. 13.2% ABV. Pitch black pour, light thin tan lacing, mild carbonation. Woodford Reserve aroma. Strong taste with Woodford Reserve predominate, chocolate light, strong alcohol content felt drinking this offering. Mild mouth feel, very smooth and easy going down. Overall, very good offering by Revolution!

A sharply hoppy and bitter brown ale is drowned out by potent bourbon barrel and astringency that's boozy af in this medium-full bodied ale that has a nice light froth and finishes semi-dry.

Draft snifter. Deep amber brown in color. Smell is lots of barrel and booze. Taste is more of the same, with the bourbon barrel early, then the rum sweet and harsh (in a good way) booze. Late notes of raisin in the finish and aftertaste. The base beer fades to the background a bit because this is a brown rather than stout. Nice change from the big BBA stouts. Feel is warming and the sweet lingers, but more sugar sweet than malt bomb sweet. Overall a unique beer, but a snifter pour is plenty. This one is big and aggressive.

On tap at Revolution. Served in a snifter. Amazing nose. Boozy right up front. Carbonation is spot on. Taste reveals toffee, Bourbon, and a nice hit of vanilla. A nice bit of alcohol heat follows. Overall I'm very impressed with this. Complex mix overall. A bit strong on the booze end. For once the 11% isn't well hidden but spot on. Worth trying when in Chicago. Bottle this please Revolution!!!
