$ 9.95 (Including tax)/six pack of 12 oz cans ($ 0.138/oz)at Meijers, Wyoming, MI.
Filled 8/15/17. Stored at reefer temp in store and at 42 degrees in my reefer. Served at 42 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Aroma – pine and citrus, fades away.
Head – Large (Maximum 6.5 cm, aggressive pour), off white, medium density with rocks, good retention, slowly diminishing to a very raggedy irregular five to ten mm ring and a thin partial layer.
Lacing – Good. Wide, nearly solid, bands of tiny to small bubbles.
Body – Medium yellow, clear.
Flavor – Starts bitter and piney. Citrus is not evident. Allowing it to warm in my mouth releases no additional flavors. No obvious malt, no alcohol, no diacetyl.
Palate – light, watery, lively carbonation.

Impression: A very good basic IPA, no fancy gimmicks other than trying to use fairly local hops. This one is on my list to buy again.

Appearance 4, Aroma 3.75, Flavor 4.25, Palate 4, Overall 4.

I picked up a can of Revolution Brewing's Local-Hero last week for $2.09 at The Lager Mill. I've never tried anything from this brewery before and I thought I would start off with one of their IPA's, so lets see how it goes. 2017 Vintage. Poured from a 12oz can into an IPA glass.

A- The can looks nice, it has a nice design to it and it's a little eye catching. It poured a fairly clear golden orange color that took on more of a brighter hue when held to the light with a finger and a half worth of fluffy white head that died down to a thin ring that stayed till the end and it left a little bit of spotty lacing behind. This is a good looking beer, I have no complaints.

S- The aroma starts off with a higher amount of sweetness with the hops being the first to show up and they impart a big fruity aroma with some pineapple and mango aromas that give it a little bit of a fruit punch like aroma and it's followed by the green hops which are just a little lighter than the fruity hops. Up next comes a slight bit of doughy yeast which leads into the malts which impart some pale malt, light caramel malt, grainy, bready and sweet malt like aroma that are on the lighter side. This beer has a pretty nice aroma, the hops are highlighted well, but I wish the green hop aromas showed up a little less.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma, but lighter and it starts off with a slightly higher amount of medium sweetness with the hops still being the first to show up they impart all the same aspects, but they are lighter and not as juicy this time. Up next comes a little bit of doughy yeast which leads into the malts which impart all the same aspects that they did in the aroma and they are just about as light. On the finish there's slightly lighter amount of medium bitterness with a little more sweetness with a citrus rind like hoppy aftertaste. This is a pretty nice tasting beer, but I wish it was a little more like it was in the aroma.

M- Smooth, a little clean, crisp, medium bodied with a slightly higher amount of medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is good and it works well with this beer.

Overall I thought this was a pretty nice beer and I thought it was a pretty solid example of the style, it was pretty true to style, but I was hoping the taste was just a little more bolder and like how it was in the aroma. This beer had nice drinkability, I could drink a couple of them. What I like the most about this beer is the the fruity hop flavors, they were good and worked well with this beer. What I like the least about this beer is that taste just wasn't a little bolder. I would buy this beer again, but it isn't something I would stock up on and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a solid IPA that isn't too intense. All in all I liked this beer, but I didn't love it and I think if they got the taste to match the aroma more it would make this beer a little better. It's made for a nice first impression for this brewery and it's a little above average for the style. Nice job guys, this is a solid IPA, keep it up.

This was poured into a becher pint glass. The appearance was a glossy burnt orange to yellow color with a semi-foamy sticky lace. The aroma has some lemon juicy sweetness. Semi-bitter to sweet grassy hops. Soft sweet malts. The flavor yields to the sweet side through the malts and hops. Some low key bitterness slides in. Aftertaste is separated between the bitterness of the hops and the malts, somewhat entertaining moving into a lemony sweet sort of finish, weird, but acceptable. On the palate, this one sat about a light to almost medium in body. Subtle nuanced bitter to sweet sliding bitter harshness flowing over the tongue. Overall, pretty good AIPA that I could have again.

Pours a light gold with a very airy/bubbly white head that diminishes quickly. No lacing. Aroma is citrus, lemongrass, dew; also smells a bit of champagne. Taste is citrusy and earthy with some cracker-y malts. Feel is medium - about average carbonation. Overall, not bad - there's a freshness to it one may particularly enjoy. One is good enough for me.

On draft downtown--this is a good beer, but not as great as Anti-Hero. Amongst the Heroes that I've tried, I think it fits somewhere between Galaxy and Mosaic. Local Hero does not seem to have a big signature flavor, which isn't always a bad thing for a drinkable IPA.

Poured from a 12 oz. can into an IPA glass.

Appearance: Pours a bright and clear golden orange. Moderate amount of bubbles and a solid finger of white head that settles into a thin creamy layer.

Smell: A juicy and earthy hop driven aroma with a scent of citrus and pine. Upfront citrus hop scent of orange peel, grapefruit, tangerine, mango, and lemon with pineapple. Earthy hop scent of pine resin and grass. Malt hints of caramel, grains, and cracker along with yeast. Also some hints of honey sweetness. A very nice juicy aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a juicy and earthy hop forward taste with notes of citrus fruit and pine. Citrus hop notes of orange peel, mango, grapefruit, tangerine, and lemon with some pineapple. Earthy hop notes of pine resin and grass. Background malt notes of caramel, cracker, and grains with some yeast. Some sweet notes of honey. A really good taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy and fairly oily with a drying finish.

Overall: A very good IPA. Good juicy and piney hop flavor with a moderate body.

A golden beer with a nice grapefruit and pine aroma. The taste is bitter but balanced with done citrus flavors and malt sweetness. The can I had was a little low on carbonation. The head faded quickly and didn't leave any lacing. It was a really tasty beer though.

12oz can, stamped "Filled: 01/04/2017"
A - brilliant hazed tangerine color with a tall frothy white head that leaves thick lacing down the glass as it slowly dissipates
S - zesty citrus, earthy pine, caramel malt
T - hop forward, very zesty and piney with orange and a bit of grapefruit, a bit earthy, a bit of tropical mango, nice malt backbone of sweet caramel and faint honey
M - medium body, resinous hop oils, finishes dry moderately bitter
O - nice utilization of some Michigan grown hops. It's always fun to try a beer from the Hero series.

Local-Hero and the Pine Ranger ready to ride again! No kidding, this is a pine and spruce forward IPA which - much like a superhero movie with a ton of starts vying for attention - somehow gives plenty enough space for all its' components to shine. Although to be fair the dominant side is within the juicy hop notes that come boldly to the fore.

Modest head, but it leaves plenty of spots on the glass. The liquid is light gold and nearly clean

Floral hop nose up front. I get a faint sense of creamed corn.

Decent semi-dry pale malt start. The hop is like straight up black pepper. Predictable body and carbonation for the style. Moderate aftertaste with a bit of weediness.

Had this on 2017-01-27 in Warrenville, IL on tap

A - Somewhat hazy gold with a one-finger whitehead and good lace

S - Mild melon, citrus and cracker

T - Bold-almost-cinnamon spice. Quite a surprise. Orange and lime. Peppermint. Graham cracker with white sugar. Reasonable bitterness for an APA.

M - Light-medium body and medium carbonation. Smooth then crisp.

O - A unique and enjoyable set of flavors. Never had an IPA like it. Pretty cool.

12 oz can dated 01/06/2017. Descriptions of the lack of maltiness are spot-on. This is full-on pine and citrus. When drinking straight from the can, taste some of the can because there's so little on the back end. Bitterness right up front. Tastes very similar to Mosaic Hero, despite the different ingredients. Or maybe that's just what I think because Jukebox Hero is so different and bridges this and Mosaic in the series.

On-tap 1/22/2017 at Battleship Brewhouse in Fall River, MA, served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light gold color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains fruity citrus, piney hops and light caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out with a strong fruity citrus sweetness. Then a decent piney hops bitterness comes in. The malt character is on the thin side for the style but brings a very good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly hoppy.

M: Crisp and smooth but a bit watery for the style, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a solid IPA to drink for a while.

Canned on 12/16/16. 12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours golden with a subtle haze, but still has some clarity to it; white head that quickly fades leaving solid retention and nice lacing. The aromas are subtle with some mild tropical and citrus notes. Lots of bread and cracker notes. Hints of rubber. The flavors have a solid bitterness with a syrupy vibe in the finish. Malts do their thing. Alcohol basically goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is very nice. It's medium-bodied with active carbonation. It's very fluffy and smooth.

This is a solid IPA. It's not really flashy, unique or anything crazy though. This is probably my least favorite in the Hero series, but it's still not bad or anything.

Another solid beer from revolutions hero ipa line.

The appearance is a pretty golden color that is nice and clear with a very slight haze. Poured with a soapy two finger white head that left good lacing.

The aroma is a classic hop profile with pine, grapefruit, orange, tropical fruit and earthy hop bitterness.

The tastes are grapefruit and orange upfront along with pine and some tropical fruit. Not much malt presence to speak of.

The palate is medium with a lingering earthy and resiny hop note along with some grassiness.

Overall this is a really nice and clean classic rendition of an ipa.

Rich golden color, impeccably clear. Two fingers of white head with good retention. Pleasant aroma of citrus, sweet malts, and slight floral notes. The taste is citrus, slight tropical fruit, grass, floral. Malts impart some crackery, slightly bready taste. Medium body, moderate carbonation, and extremely silky smooth. Balanced, bitter finish. Overall, a nice IPA/DIPA hyrbrid, as this straddles the line at 7.5%.

I was not blown away by Local Hero....good....absolutely....better than Anti-Hero....don't think so. The Mosaic and Citra were better as well. This beer poured a clear golden with white head that didn't leave any lace. The scent was more bitter than piny or citrusy. The taste was also fairly middle of the road with not a lot of excitement. Mouthfeel was medium on body with subtle carbonation. Overall it was fine...just expected more....still deserving of a try.

For a standard IPA, at just 6.5%, this packs a great fruity punch. Oranges, nectarines, tangerines, grapefruit and fruit punch all burst forth. Very little bitterness or pine. As expected, the malt is a tad lacking but this is very enjoyable.

1 PINT, 6 FLUID OUNCE bottle
Served in a tulip glass

This beer pours a light shade of amber, almost golden in color with some yellow highlights. It is topped with a couple inches of off white head.

As soon as I popped the top I could smell grapefruit. I actually get a little caramel malt from time to time as well as a nice pine smell.

It tastes just like it smells minus the malt. It starts out with grapefruit with a little rind through the middle. The finish has some pine. There is plenty of bitterness throughout this beer.

Medium mouthfeel. Not overly carbonated

This is a solid IPA. With so many beer of this style out there it doesn't really set itself apart to make it great. It is definitely worth a try.

maybe not vastly, but i think this is a better beer than the normal anti-hero. the local hops might be fresher, dosed differently, or of different varietals. tough to say really, but i like the classic hop profile of this one more. its deep and piney, bolder, and as indicated by both the lighter shade and the lack of malty sweetness, the grain bill is streamlined and minimized here. no caramel notes, not even a hint of grain sweetness, just a clean fresh pale and even pils type base, not a lick darker than golden in color, clear too. pine for me on the hops, even spruce specifically, earthy and bitter, but oily and intense too, very autumn despite the easy drinking nature of it. i like the clean finish with all the hops, for how boldly flavored it is, it resolves pretty quickly in the end, and its a really cruisy pint or three. maybe not the most distinct ipa in the world, or even on the menu here at revolution, but a great one, and an improvement i think on their more popular anti-hero, which is all over chicago.
