Style: American Pale Ale (APA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Last summer, we aimed to create a mega pale ale with our friends from Big Star restaurant. Our result; Fist City, a crushable Chicago pale ale named after the Loretta Lynn tune. It is brewed with lots of 2 row and red wheat with a little specialty malt for a beautiful golden hue. A blend of Centennial, Citra, Chinook, Cascade and Crystal hops give the beer its flavor and aroma. This beer is meant to be a supremely drinkable brew for those who love hops. Magnificent California hop aromas play in perfect harmony with this brew’s extremely satisfying finish.

It is New Beer Sunday (Week 575) & I am CANcentrating on Chicago(land) as my CANtribution to the frivolity! Forgive me, but I thought that Detroit was "Fist City", given its statuary as an homage to Joe Lewis. Either that, or a subpage on youporn.com (or so I've heard). No problem for me, either way. I will gladly raise my left fist in support of the Revolution!

From the CAN: "Chicago Pale Ale"; "Made with Cascade, Citra[,] Centennial & Crystal Hops"; "Crafted for Our City with Our Friends at Big Star."

I am unfamiliar with the CPA style, so this should be an enlightening experience! The Crack! itself was an experience since the CAN was brimful. That is how I know that the people at Revolution are sincere & of the people - they always give us a little extra & never shortchange us! Brothers & Sisters, I CANduct this gentle Glug in your honor. A swirl raised a brief finger of fizzy, bone-white head with limited retention. Color was Straw-Yellow (SRM = > 2, < 4) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was a riot of hops - grassy, citrusy, minty and coupled with a biscuit maltiness so as not to get in their way. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was a cool, bitter CANglomeration with tastes of grapefruit, pine tar and a biscuity maltiness. So this is what Chicago tastes like! I CAN dig it. Finish was pleasantly dry, about right for an APA, but perfect for a CPA, apparently. I'm throwing some in a cooler & heading for Fist City, wherever it may be, at my earliest opportunity.

Served from can into glass at home.

Look: Pours deep gold in color, very high clarity, with bright white head with good retention. No visible floating particulates or yeast sediment. Streamers of small bubbles continue to slowly rise.

Smell: Good hoppy aroma: earthy, spicy, floral, zesty. A little fruity too, with a clean cereal malt underneath. No alcohol aroma detectable.

Taste: Nice hoppy flavor that follows the aroma: earthy, herbaceous, spicy, a little citrus. Classic pale ale malt flavor. Low sweetness. Medium bitterness. No detectable alcohol flavor.

Feel: Smooth mouthfeel. Not heavy or slick. Easy to drink. Medium carbonation. Semi dry finish.

Overall: A very good pale ale. "Supremely drinkable" is a fitting description for this beer. The hops provide an interesting aroma and flavor that is not overwhelming in complexity or depth. The body is light enough to drink easily but not feel watery. It is very reminiscent to me of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and I think that is praise enough.

Served in a pint at Revolution,Thanks to Thomas for this one!

Pale gold, compact cap of foam on the surface. Spotty lace around the edges.

Dank pungent hop aroma, citrus peel and fresh greens.

Flavors of citrus peel, pale malt, dandelion bitterness, all well balanced and in harmony. Light bodied and extremely drinkable. Fist City nails the prototypical west coast style, even giving Half Acre a run for the money.

Received this as an extra in a trade and wow, I was blown away. Easily one of the best pale ales I have had in a while. Creamy head, very citrusy without being overly bitter and well carbonated. Just a delicious pale ale

12 ounce can into pint glass, canned on 12/2/2015. Pours slightly hazy golden yellow color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, cracker, bread, light honey, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste big tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, grapefruit, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, cracker, bread, light honey, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon/orange rind, pine, cracker, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately sticky/resinous, and creamy/bready balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent pale ale! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth, crisp, and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Pours from the can a hazy medium-gold with a creamy and tight white head.
The aroma is loaded with fruit: Peach and pineapple, a little orange and even a bit of candided lemon. Also whisps of pine resin.
Taste is very fruity. Orange pitch and sweet peach, a bit of pineapple, a touch of malty sweetness and a pine resin and drying finish.
Mouthfeel is about medium and fairly smooth.
Overall, a really tasty pale ale.

this is a very solid American pale ale. light bodied with a golden orange hue and a great carbonation. they used some red wheat in the malt bill, and it has a nice little spice to it that goes perfectly with the hops, which are very juicy and delicious.

A really good pale that has all the right things going for it. I wouldn't expect anything less from Revolution. Inviting aromas and and the perfect touch of hop punch on the palate. Well done beer.
