Brief impressions:

Sm: Faint, actually. ??? Floral notes, citrus, pale malts, resins, juicy fruits.

T: Follows the aroma, with plenty of Amarillo resins. Floral and clean, with an unfortunate high level of malty sweetness in place to balance the otherwise overbearing bitterness. Absolutely imbalanced, as most beers that recklessly try to go this big and bold with flavours tend to be. Built to be monstrous.

Not gestalt. There's no subtlety, order, or nuance to this brew at all. It's heavy handed and loud.

Bends bitter in the third act and into the finish, leaving the drinker with an obnoxious bite.

Mf: Crisp and Overcarbonated, with a filling full body and a heavy presence on the palate. Thick, weighty, and hefty. Off-puttingly oily.

O: Will appeal to those American craft beer drinkers in the 20-30something male demographic who associate high ABVs and high IBUs with quality, irrespective of balance. Discerning drinkers will be amused but unimpressed. I wouldn't buy it again, but in spite of its severe imbalance it's still a more drinkable and enjoyable beer than others of its ilk (see Stone's Ruination and Green Flash's Palate Wrecker for other misguided brews in this unfortunate American trend).

Side-note: damn if this won't get you drunk.

I am unfortunately rewriting my review in a most negative way. Good god this beer fell apart over the course of a month. Even fresh, something tasted slightly off. Way too much malty sweetness and nowhere near the hop character it carried in 2014. There is an overbearing chemical aftertaste that sits around I can't quite put my finger on, but it's unpleasant. Dump this in a bourbon barrel and re-release it as a BBA barleywine. At least then that cloying sweetness makes sense. I still have several more of these to go and will be forcing them on unsuspecting guests. Buyer beware...2015 batch was a bust...drain pour

The only reason this beer is unsessionable is because it's super dangerous to session at 10%.... I'm so glad the rumors of this beer never being brewed again were incorrect. Just picked up a 09/22/2015 born on & it is so damn good. In my opinion this beer blows 1ZNuff away and I'm a big 1Z fan.

Enjoyed a tulip-full at the brewery taproom.
Beer is a good-looking light orange with a foamy white head.
The aroma is loaded. Tropical fruit leads the way with pine and grassy notes as well and a little candied fruit and orange rind as well.
Wow. A straight-up palate attack. Lots of juicy fruit, then some piney resin and dankness and a bit of sweetness (maybe caramel) before the crisp and bitter finish. No hint of the 10% ABV.
Mouthfeel is fairly light and smooth.
Overall, this is a huge beer with tons of bitterness and flavor but I didn't want to stop drinking it. Great beer!

12oz can, dated 10.7.2014, poured into a Pipeworks snifter.

The beer pours a slightly hazy copper color, but with a few bubbles rising to the top of the glass where a finger of thick, white, soapy head that has nice retention and yields a few webs of lace. The aroma is big, plenty of that 10% ABV shows, bitter hops that are clean, crisp, floral, citrusy, juicy with a bit of pine, malt is an afterthought, but likely is noticeable as sweetness behind the alcohol. The flavors really shine, big hops, bitter but juicy, very balanced yet intense, big grapefruit, peach, mango, orange zest, pine, wildflower while the malt is smooth and rich, lightly sweet and brings out the alcohol, which is hidden really well on the tongue. The mouthfeel is nice, very rich, full bodied, coats extremely well and the carbonation is perfect while the finish is dry, but not overly so.

Verdict: A really superb DIPA from Revolution, their best showcase of hops to date and arguably the best IPA to come out of Chicago that isn't from Chicago's honorary annex of Munster, Indiana. Big, bold, bitter but balanced and not too biting, just what one asks for in a DIPA. The potent alcohol on the nose is the only thing that is holding this back from being a truly world class DIPA, kudos to Rev, this is excellent!

Received a few of these in a trade. Tossed one JLindros's way.

A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a slightly hazy copper hue with a face two finger white head that fades slowly to leave loads of sticky lacing and a dense creamy blanket. For 10% this is pretty damn good.

S - Aromas of pine, light dankness, citrus oil, light tropical notes, fair amount of juicy fruits with not much malt sweetness. No alcohol on the nose.

T - Taste is note nearly as good as the nose. Wet pine trees, super faint tropical notes, good citrus peel. Rather oily citrus finish, bitter pith and peel. Decent amount of malt sweetness. Alcohol is more evident too on the finish and first initial hit to the tongue as well.

M - Mouthfeel is crispy carbonated, which keeps it a bit lighter on the tongue. Finish though is a bit sticky and heavy, fair amount of booze.

O - Overall, while the taste and mouthfeel were on par for what one would expect for a DIPA of this ABV, the appearance and nose were pretty solid. For the ABV content, a solid offering.

12 oz can. Hazy copper color with thick off white head with great retention, coats glass with foam. Serious tropical fruit aroma, mango and pineapple. Big fruity taste as well, on the sweet side due to the malt but plenty of hops come in late to balance. Pine, citrus and floral notes in a semi- dry finish. Touch of booze at the end. Full mouthfeel but clean and crisp at the same time. Very easy drinking for such a big beer due to the fruitiness and mouthfeel. Really enjoyed this one. Thx to @nsola for the hook-up.

Extremely smooth for 10% ABV. Lots of Citra but very balanced. My favorite IPA from Revolution and possibly my favorite beer in a can.

Clear copper with a huge head. Moderate retention and clumps of lacing left on the glass. A lot more complex malt going on here, brash alcohol and piney and candied fruit hops. Juicy character with the malt adding both a candied glaze and baked goods balance to the citrus rind, pleasant herbs and backing pine. Bitterness is large but also carries the fruity hops with it through the finish. Quite a feat. The mouthfeel is absolutely perfect, no prickly carbonation, or overbearing alcohol, just smooth sailing. Impressive, DIPA, just an absolute cool character. Sessionable to a fault, juicy and complex. Maybe the only other canned DIPA (yeah, I just said it Heady Topper) that can go head to head with Abrasive.

12 oz. can poured into a Lagunitas mason jar glass.

Pours a nice looking burnt orange color with a small white head that fades quickly.

Smells of tropical fruits, a tad of garlic, pine and rubbing alcohol.

Starts candy sugar sweet followed by grapefruit rind and then...rubbing alcohol. Strong rubbing alcohol.

Mouthfeel fits the style. Medium soft carbonation.

This beer was a big fat fail. Many love it but jeez, the rubbing alcohol taste is very off putting. I bought a sixer ($21.00) and got through it, but what a chore. I won't revisit and prefer many others of the style over this one.

Pours a beautiful golden orange and fluffy white head. Smells like piney hops followed by some alcohol bite. Has a great hop bite and a little alcohol burn. Very light and smooth mouthfeel for such a big beer. A VERY enjoyable and big beer. Well done!
