Notes: A heavy dose of rye breathes new life into this other-worldly strong ale. Supple spice and barley sweetness strike a balance in the young beer before its enlightenment in Heaven Hill Rye Whiskey barrels. Ethereal waves of dark fruit and vanilla ascend from the depths as the elixir warms while the rye character lends a stunningly silky mouthfeel. Perhaps it's a doorway to an existential awakening, or maybe it's just a damned fine beer.

Ruddy brown, effervescent, with two fingers of airy tan head. The head bubbles away fairly quickly leaving a wisp and a crown, but no lacing.

Lightly spicy aroma with vanilla and toffee. Maybe a hint of cherry and a little breadiness beneath.

Creamy, pitted-fruit flavors in the taste with rye spice, vanilla, cherry, plum, molasses, coffee grounds, wood, stale hops and light alcohol burn. Fairly strong sweetness balanced nicely with some light, earthy bitterness, wood and booze.

Lively mouthfeel with zippy carbonation and a creamy body.

This is a fantastic tasting beer. Loaded with vanilla, rye and fruit. By far my favorite of this Revolution barrel-aged series. 12/5/19 canning date.

Thanks to…whoever the fuck sent me this 22 oz. bottle. I mean, it’s 10:30, I’ve had a few beers, & my meticulous beer log is 35 feet away on another computer. It’s too much, man! Split with my wife.

Pour is arterial red with enough head for Cinnamon’s Buns. Nose isn’t too impressive, rye, vanilla, but only a low, soft burst of either. Tame.

Ryeway to Heaven is like a marketing campaign aimed right between my eyes. And make no mistake - this is every bit the 13%+ ABV noted on the label. Big, boozy stink up front is tangled up with sharp, spicy rye & a half-shot of smooth whiskey. Underlying sugar-laced toffee, vanilla, more booze, raw cane sugar, grain, realized dreams & perfect cleavage. Harsh & bitter, in a good way, & easy to drink. I can smell the hangover already.

This is like a rye Hugo Award. Heinlien would approve. I have one more bottle that I will cuddle relentlessly before it meets my innards. Fantastic brew.

Canned 11/27/18; drank 12/8/18 @ the Yarchives.

See-through purple/red appearance.

A violent pour yielded a HUGE khaki head; strong tree-rung lace.

Oak, cream, mild spicy rye & mild bourbon heat notes in the nose.

Thick, creamy mouthfeel.

Caramel, oak, bourbon & faintly spicy rye flavors.

This was a pleasant surprise; basically an above average barrel aged barleywine, regardless of how it's classified here. The rye added a hint of spice but wasn't overwhelming. I'd have another...

Quite tasty if you enjoy sweet caramel dipped in booze - there was also a dark, candied fruit flavor that came through. Somewhat like Straight Jacket but sweeter than that to me. Reminded me a lot of 2015 (not 2014) Firestone Walker Stickee Monkee. Another delicious beer in Revolution's barrel aged series - I picked up a couple more to age as I think some more flavors may come out after sitting some time (though the box verbiage has been updated and says to drink now or refrigerate!)

I'll start by saying I almost asked for a Rocks Glass after I tasted this gem. Rye on Rye on Rye. All Rye everything. Sweet boozy notes almost kinda not really hide the 14% kick to the newts this one packs. Awesome, awesome beer.

It smells more alcoholic than it tastes. It’s a wonderful caramelly, vanilla old ale. There’s a bit more spice from the rye barrel than I get from the Firestone Anniversary ales (which might be my favorite old ales usually) but it’s a damn fine beer. Not my favorite Rev barrel aged beer is the season but worth buying always.

Pours a deep mahogany/rusty brown with a sticky head of off-white foam and clings for days, but there is a slight amount of particulate I could do without.

Wow, rye on rye on rye. A huge breath of spicy rye up front followed by very sweet caramel, toffee, and vanilla character with subtle oak/barrel undertones.

Sticky sweet caramel and toffee aromas merge into the flavor with waves upon waves of slightly spicy rye. There is vanilla/barrel character in there somewhere but is less than pronounced with such a heavy hand of spicy rye and tons of sweetness.

Heavy-bodied, medium carbonation, sticky, very chewy, very sweet.

Overall, while I loved the idea for this, the beer is incredibly sweet and needs a heavy hand of hops to add some balance in addition to more barrel notes.

This beer oozes out of the can with a clear, caramel toned color. A pinky worth of light caramel colored crown rests on top.

The nose carries in beautiful barrel tones; dry oak, warming sensation, dark fruit. Then comes in a balanced sweetness of toffee and caramel.

The taste brings in more of that caramel, this time over a bready rye base. Toffee, dark fruit like figs, dry oak, very slight tobacco. A lot going on, and it all works together.

As with all the Deep woods beers from revolution, it’s way too easy to drink for the ABV. I’m not saying this isn’t a little warm, or that you don’t know it’s made of something, but it’s balanced with care to make a damn smooth sipper.

Overall, what a nicely blended brew this is.

22 ounce bottle into a snifter.

Pours a copper color, mostly clear, with a small head and a ring of lacing. Smell brings lots of rye, malt, caramel, raisins, faint whiskey, a little anise when warm. The taste leads with the malt and rye, then caramel, raisins, some fig and brown sugar, a little oak. It's pretty sweet. More whiskey than the nose, but still fairly subtle. Smooth, solid body, well carbonated.

Another solid BA from Revolution, lots of great rye flavor. Easy to drink, for the high ABV. Sweeter than expected for the style, maybe a little too much. Would have liked a little more presence from the Heaven Hill barrels, too. Well worth a purchase, and I'm sure I'll grab one the next release.
