Tasted from can. Pours black with beige head. Aroma of cured meats, bourbon, and caramel. A hint of smokiness. Thick and sticky mouthfeel. Slight alcohol burn noted. Lots of bourbon, caramel and molasses. Some cocoa and smoked meaty notes with a little oak. Complex huge well done beer.

Drinking on draft at a Whole Foods and excited to find it. Very bourbon forward smell which I like but others may not. Thinner than my favorite stouts. At 17% abv, it’s easier to drink than I’d expect. It has a dry mouthfeel which is nice. I’m missing a lot complexity. I guess I like it but I’m a little disappointed.

Had this on draft 12/13/19 @ the taproom.

Midnight black appearance.

Small khaki head; minimal lace.

Chocolate, raspberry, oak & sweet bourbon notes in the nose.

Thick, sticky mouthfeel.

Chocolate covered cherry flavor, with oak & sweet bourbon coming out as this warmed.

Above average barrel alchemy.

Gorgeous draft pour into a 9oz stemless tulip boasts a light denying deep brown body and floats a 3/4in head of dark cocoa colored varied-sized bubbles. Sheets of lacing run back to the ring.

Aroma is mostly booze, but the cocoa, vanilla, oak, and leather are present.

Flavors are outstanding. All of them. Chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, leather, ash, dark stone fruit...and perfectly balanced bitter and sweet.

Mouthfeel is everything I expect. Full and creamy without being sticky, but just enough booze warming in the back of the palate and chest.

Overall I am leaving open the possibility that a brewery can top this. I double barrel dare them.

Thanks bstyle for this
12 oz can, dated 1/4/18, poured into a snifter

A- Black with a very small mocha head

S- Bourbon, oak, dark fruits, roasted malts, dark chocolate, vanilla, some caramel, a little boozy.

T- Dark fruits, combo of figs and cherries, bourbon, chocolate, fudge, roasted malts, vanilla, oak, caramel, minimal booze for 17% ABV and very well balanced.

M- Smooth, full body.

O- Another great version of Deth’s Tar, very balanced and easy to drink given the ABV.
