Very Good
Deth By RaspberriesDeth By Raspberries
Notes: This all-too-drinkable fruited spin on Deth's Tar is equally at home in any setting. Aromas of roasted malt, American oak, bourbon, and fresh raspberry flesh emerge from the glass like a group hug for the nose while the palate is treated to a gentle sweetness and incisive acidity. Enjoy now or store cold.

2021 version from an 8 ounce pour from the Open Bottle. Seems like all four beers in their special underperformed tonight. Kind of weak. Dark appearance with a bit of rosè tint. A berry scent and a berry taste with an extremely mild roasty stout background. Feel is like the taste-subtle. In feel, finish, and booze. I love Revolution’s barrel program. After drinking this one from a tap, I really want to try it canned. I bet it would be better.

This one pours a dark black color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.

This smells like jammy raspberry, tobacco, roasted malt, dark chocolate, and bourbon.

The raspberry is added in a gentle and subtle way here, adding some pleasant jammy character. The beer remains dry in the end, with bitter barrel character and clean roast, along with caramelly and slightly fruity bourbon.

This is medium bodied, with a nice warmth, and a smooth drinkability overall.

Revolution is very nearly batting one thousand. This is yet another excellent release.

12oz can poured into Deep Woods Series stemless glass.

canned on date of 9/28/21.

Appearance: Black bodied beer with big and tall medium brown head. head pours easily 3 fingers tall. spotty lacing. head drops down to ring around the glass.

Smell: All raspberries; really jammy raspberries. Raspberry flesh and seed. Is this a fruited lambic? Maybe a very faint hint of bourbon and chocolate; I might be stretching a bit though because I want to be optimistic.

Taste: Jammy raspberry flesh and raspberry seeds. So much raspberry! All I taste is Raspberry. Deth Tar is missing in action here. Maybe a faint hinting of chocolate and bourbon. Finish is tart & jammy raspberries. It still tastes good, but boy do I really want some stout in this raspberry stout.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied stout. moderate carbonation levels. Really creamy texture to the body of this stout. Not boozy at all. Very drinkable.

Overall: This is hard to pass for a stout. SO much raspberry it obliterates any trace of Deth Tar. The Raspberry is spot on and delicious. It tastes really authentic like a raspberry should. Revolution really missed the balance of stout and fruit here. I keep wanting more Deth Tar from this beer with every sip. Haymarket brewing Clare's Thirsty Ale absolutely decimates Deth by Raspberries. This is a one and done for me, glad I did not buy a 4 pack of this stout.

Canned 9/28/21; drank 10/17/21 @ the Yarchives.

Black/brown appearance.

A rough pour yielded a huge dark tan head; decent lace.

Raspberry sorbet, milk chocolate & faint bourbon heat notes in the nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

Raspberry sorbet & milk chocolate flavors up front; tart raspberry, mild oak & faint booze heat notes on the finish.

Balanced, in that it gives both the sweet and the tart elements of raspberry room to shine; thin enough to quaff but you shouldn't. An interesting, tasty fruited stout. I'd have another...
