Notes:
Galaxy Hero is brewed using a blend of 2-row, Amber and Aromatic malts to achieve a deep golden color and toasted malt character. Apollo and Centennial hops are used in the brewhouse for a clean punch of bitterness and citrus character. Now it is time to discuss the dry-hop step and it’s where things really get interesting! The true meaning of the “Double Dry-Hop” is not taking the normal dry-hop rate of Galaxy Hero up from 1 lb. to 2 lb. per Barrel. Nope. We up the rate to 5 lb. per Barrel to a total of 1,100 lbs. of Galaxy and Centennial adding the 1st half on Day#5 and the 2nd half on Day#6 of fermentation! So it’s really 4 times the amount of hop pellets added on 2 separate days. This massive infusion of hop material imparts distinctive aromas and flavors of tropical fruit, fresh cut herbs and grated citrus zest.

16oz can FILLED 02-19-2021 poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass at fridge temp 8% ABV per label. The beer pours completely turbid in a peachy, yellow, amber color with off white head. The head recedes to a thin ring and few splotches of lacing. The aroma is significant with over ripe tropical fruit, melon and grapefruit/orange peel. The taste is more pungent, hop driven fruit. Orange, grapefruit, pine all over a soft, pale malt bill. Moderate bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, good.

Canned 1/30/20; drank 3/15/20 @ the Yarchives.
Opaque dull yellow/orange appearance.
A rough pour yielded a nice white head; strong, frothy tree-rung lace.
Pineapple, table sugar & faint baking soda notes in the nose.
Creamy medium mouthfeel.
Pineapple, table sugar & faint baking soda flavors; this is drinkable, but caught between old model & new model flavors, without achieving balance.
Not one to seek out.

Pours hazy yellow with a little white head.
Smells a little tropical and sweet.
Taste is very citrus forward and easy to drink. Very low bitterness.
Pretty smooth and light beer. Somewhat crushable for the style.

12oz can, filled 03.05.2018. Copper colored ale with a frothy ivoty head. Juicy and fruity aroma with light caramel malt. Flavor has a nice citrus burst with tropical mango and a touch of pine with light caramel malt for a backbone. Medium body, resinous, and a bitter semi-dry finish. I love Galaxy-Hero, but this seemed to be a step down for some reason.

For a single ipa, the hops were nicely potent. It poured a little thin and carbonated, but the body was stickier than expected and helps to go with the carbonation. Full disclosure, I really like galaxy hops, and so I like this beer a good bit. Not complex or deep, but really accomplishes letting the hops star

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 3/5/2018. Pours slightly hazy deep golden amber color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big pineapple, tangerine, peach, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, berry, white grape, grapefruit, lemon, citrus peel/rind, green pepper, pine, toasted bread, light honey/caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big pineapple, tangerine, peach, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, berry, white grape, grapefruit, lemon, citrus peel/rind, green pepper, pine, toasted bread, light honey/caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of pineapple, tangerine, peach, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, berry, white grape, grapefruit, lemon, citrus peel/rind, green pepper, pine, toasted bread, light honey/caramel, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, creamy/bready/sticky, and fairly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 7%. Overall this is a fantastic IPA! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and easy to drink with the modestly bitter/drying finish; never overly aggressive. Apollo, Centennial, and Galaxy hops in the brew process; but the Galaxy has the biggest presence all around. Extremely vibrant, juicy, dank, and earthy balanced hop complexity; nice solid bready malt backbone, with no residual sweetness. A highly enjoyable offering as expected. Just as impressive as the regular, but a bit more resinous and drying.

This beer is golden straw in color and rather clear for the style. Not perfectly clear but you can definitely see through the other side. Half a finger of white crown sits on top.
The first smell brings huge citrus. A lot of orange, tangerine, mango. And a slight background of resin.
The taste is much of the same but with that resin playing a more prominent part of the background.
The mouthfeel is wet and sticky. But has a dry finish. Almost piney.
Overall, I like and enjoy this beer but not what I expected from the style.

A - Pale orange, with light haze, lots of carbonation bubble, thin white head, curtain lacing.
S - Lots of floral hops and passionfruit, a bit of malty sweetness.
T - Strong hop hit, follows the nose, bitter snap in the close, pungent.
M - Brisk carbonation and dry, sharp snap.
O - Reasonable hop-heavy bitter IPA. Quick to fade but tasty.

Tasted in a Spiegelau IPA glass from a 12 fl oz can on March 26, 2018. Two rounds of dry-hops, each with double the hops. That means four times the firepower. Good stuff.

Pours a dusty orange with a finger of head that leaves light lacing. Aromatic and west coast in its styling, with pine, malty cracker, lemongrass, and grapefruit pith. Strong hop bitterness on the palate that contrasts with some yeasty notes. Moderately full body that coats the tongue.
