Strawberry JacketStrawberry Jacket
Notes: Yes, Strawberry Jacket. A slightly drier blend of bourbon and rye whiskey barrel English Barleywines aged eighteen months provides a base for the delicate nuances of fresh strawberry to shine while retaining the same balance we expect of our beloved Straight Jacket. Reminiscent a fresh, juicy strawberry atop a crème brûlée, this sipper is as at home beside your favorite dessert as it is on its own. Enjoy now or store cold.

Appearance - The barleywine was golden with hues of strawberry and visible carbonation.

Smell - The news brought to mind over-ripe strawberries past their peak. The base beer was covered.

Taste - my first thought was that this was a Strawberry Barleywine Shandy. Strawberry was bigger in the nose and the taste. The strawberries still seemed a bit better and overripe. The booze on this one is sneaky.

Mouthfeel - This did not seem like the body of a barleywine.

Overall - I can appreciate what they tried to do here, but it was just not my thing.

Pours a strawberry-hued brown, slightly less murky than many of its brethren, with a finger-and-a-half of tan head that settles into a cap and crown that leave sheets of lacing.

Dry-ish aroma with definite strawberry, some leather and light toffee, vanilla and bourbon.

Lots of alcohol heat in the taste. Again, on the dry side, with strong leather, some biscuit, hints of caramel, toffee and vanilla, and clear strawberry in the finish.

On the lighter side of medium bodied in comparison with others from Revolution, slightly creamy, with light carbonation.

Borderline jammy qualities to the strawberry, sitting on a comparatively dry base that still has those tasty toffee and other BBA notes along with the leather. Probably not as good as original Jacket, but still fun to try.

Can’t imagine how I missed checking in the July, 2019 edition, after being at the release and going through a four pack. Was also at the release of the next batch in November, 2019 and have had one can. Typically excellent base, the barrels are great and prominent, and the strawberries are terrific- maybe the best strawberry taste I’ve had in a beer. Overall, the first batch is slightly better than the second, but both are delicious and the strawberries don’t dilute the taste and feel of Straight Jacket.

12 oz. can. Pours deep amber. Smells of sweet brown sugar, bourbon, light strawberry acidity. Tastes of bourbon, brown sugar, booze. Oak and strawberry tie together in the finish. Strawberry sharpness accentuates the oak flavor. Works well together, strangely. Heavy, but never cloying. It's a strange mix, but somehow comes together well.

Can from Steve. Medium amber, bright with a small bubbly head. Fruity aroma, strawberries. A big dose of malts comes in along with the berries in the taste, as well as some alcohol heat.

Tulip glass from a can. Sipping by itself. Great barley wine smell. Not much head with a reddish brown look. Great taste until the sweetness of the strawberries hit. Too much strawberry aftertaste for me. I’d like to try it with some strawberry cheesecake or other desert.

Had on tap. Opaque and grainy appearing russet brown body with virtually no head save a little tan foam here and there. Strawberry jam aromas mix with the rye whiskey, bourbon, and wood, with leather and slight toffee lingering behind. Taste is much more potent than expected, strawberry stays true while playing nice with the booze and wood, surprising depth, certainly a sweet treat but not ridiculously so. Feel is appropriately dry and woody, with plenty of lush booze and sweetness. If you are hankering for a great heavy strawberry beer look no further! The wife was not able to try this one, but I can guarantee she would love this one!

The appearance is strikingly clear but dark copper red with a thin but creamy tan blanket settling to a thin collar.

Much to my surprise this features all kinds of strawberry without tasting like medicine, and the barrel aged barleywine survives while not being crazy bourbony. The strawberry is sweet and jammy--wild and homemade even--somewhat thinning out the base, and maybe making it more drinkable.

There is a fine carbonation as the caramel-vanilla of the base interacts with the strawberry, albeit a little more in the background now, before a semi-sticky finish. It's a little warmingly woody on the exhale, accented by the softest touch of pine.

Pous a ruddy brown color. Opaque and quite shiny. Thick fizzy two finger head dissipates quickly. No residual head remains.

Aroma has strong notes of strawberry jam, some oak notes, a touch of rye, some light notes of cinnamon and spice. But overall its really bowled over by the strawberry jam aroma.

Taste follows the nose with strong strawberry notes. Jammy, but not overly sweet. Reminiscent more of fresh preserves. Underlying that is a lovely English barleywine with notes of vanilla, toffee, dark fruits, oak and leather. On the back end you get some spicy rye notes. The strawberries take on a somewhat tart finish

Feel is light to medium bodied. Bright carbonation. Semi-dry finish.

Overall its a really unique beer. The strawberry its different but it works and they've utilized it really well here. A must try if you like the style and feel like being adventurous.

Canned 7/12/19; drank 7/19/19 @ the Yarchives.

See through purple/brown appearance.

A rough pour yielded a nice, noisy khaki head which quickly dissipated; minimal head.

Strawberry jam, oak & leather notes in the nose.

Creamy, thick mouthfeel.

Strawberry jam, leather & mild oak flavors; mild booze heat notes on the finish.

A delightful barleywine; fruity but substantial. A winner!

Love the strawberry aroma and taste; it’s authentic as it gets. Strawberry is a hard fruit to get right with most beer styles, yet it’s done well here. Not much barleywine or barrel aged flavors going on besides the rye notes from the rye whiskey barrels.
