A striking, robust porter full of warmth and chocolate malt. Eugene is a robust porter named after Eugene V. Debs, an American union leader and activist who led the Pullman Railroad strike in 1894. An assortment of Belgian specialty malts form a complex structure of toasted grain and caramel flavors. Dark chocolate malt makes this porter black as night and infuses it with its distinct intense, chocolate essence.

Rich looking dark brown pour, small tan head fades to a ring, no lacing. Notes of roasted malt, coffee. Smells better than it tastes, good, not great.

Dark, dark brown with a big tan head. The aroma gives me a lot of damp wood for some reason, but in a comforting sort of way. Super smooth with more bitterness than sweetness, but fairly subdued. The caramel and roast iness comes through as it warms. Overall nothing innovative, but now I feel like I have something to compare every other porter to. Drinking it gives me the sudden urge to go strike for better working conditions...

12oz FILLED AUG/13/21 (4 months ago) poured into a tulip pint glass at fridge temp 6.8% ABV. The beer pours dense black with minimal light penetration and light brown head. The head recedes to a thin ring and single layer of tiny bubbles. The aroma is mild with roasted malt and coffee. The taste is bittersweet roasted malt with a hint of dark chocolate and coffee. Mildly bitter. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, very good. Straightforward, but unflawed. Way to easy to drink at 6.8%

12 oz can into a mug.

A: Dark brown color with a frothy two-finger tan head.

S: Big chocolate aroma dominates with some roasted malt and a faint hint of anise. Can't pick up much hops.

T: Dark chocolate and coffee. A very mild astringency lingers in the aftertaste.

F: Medium-bodied, not much carbonation. Dry finish.

O: One of my favorite examples of one of my favorite styles.

Sticker stating 11/19/20, sampled 3/6/21, 12 oz. can

Appearance: Dark brown/black glass, shows some haze with serious back light. Struggles to hold a thin collar of tan head with a few spots of foam center glass.

Aroma: Chocolate malt, molasses, mild citric hop.

Taste: First blush is a hoppy citric, transitions to a clean balanced malt porter, and finishes with a mild nickle metallic note that fades out deeper into the glass. The chocolate malt note is here, along with a tonic water finish.

Mouthfeel: Dry, low carbonation, slightly chalky finish, medium low body.

Overall: Nice flavors, very dry, bit of an American Porter, enjoyable sipper. Thanks Cassidy! Hand carried to Texas.
