On tap at Morris Tap and Grille. Pours a ruddy copper hue with moderate frothing. Mellow aroma replete with hints of citrus and grapefruit. Similar overall flavor profile.

12oz. can into a Surly teku.

Nose is pine, perfume and fresh cut grass. Beer opens crisp with hints of bark, grass and a robust cane sugar backbone. This is what I'm used to before the wave of New England IPAs hit. Dry. Sap, resin and a biting, clean bitterness finishes the experience. Nice. Body is light to medium with moderate carbonation. Dry on the palate and dry going down. Really attacks the palate.

A real nice biting, bitter IPA. Worth trying and a great flagship beer.

A: dark orange amber color with a 1.5 finger off-white head

S: big pine, grapefruit, strawberry, pineapple, crackers, sweet malt. Very very juicy hops in here

T: pineapple, pine, strawberry, big bread and cracker. Some sweet malt in here as well towards the middle of the mouth. The end is a grapefruit bitterness

M: medium mouthfeel almost a bit silkily. Not a Tom of carbonation

O: the flavor isn't as juicy as the aroma, but it is a nicely harmonized beer. Good mix of hops and malt, and crisp. Nice representation of the style

This competes with some of the best hop-front IPA's out there....has all the favored attributes desired for a hop head....citrusy....floral...touch of malts. The price is considerably lower than the ones in the $14+ a 6-pack range.....gotta like that as well.

Pours clear and golden with a finger of white head. Aroma is floral, with a zing of pine and resin to it. Flavor profile is herbal, with lemon zest. There is a lingering pine nettle note as the rest of the flavor profile fades. That final note carries some bitterness. Mouth feel is sticky, and resiny, with a medium thickness. Overall, an IPA that tastes like it should be drank in the heart of an evergreen forest on a camping trip.

Served in a 12oz pint glass. Draft. Reviewed from notes.

I'm not sure why I'm just now getting around to this one considering that I've lived in the Chicagoland area for 3 1/2 years now, and have always heard how good this, but better late than never I guess.

This beer pours a clear, amber color that shows off light carbonation and a thick, off-white, frothy head that dissipates nice and slowly to a rocky layer with a neck. There is a bit of a glow that the amber puts off which is very enticing. 4.25/5 The aroma is a very nice mix of multiple hops that come across as chiefly as pine and tropical notes. There is some floral as well that adds even another layer to the hop bill. The aroma is really quite strong which allows all of these different hop varietals to play their parts. The malt is pretty muted, or at least dominated by the hops as expected. 4.25/5 The flavor profile, as with the aroma, is dominated by the hops, although the malt does come out to play a bit more here with caramel and toasted bready malt kicking things off. However, those notes quickly disappear and allow the hops to play their tune with some serious pine and tropical notes, as well as a bit of floral hops as the beer warms. Bitterness is moderate in strength and is kept in check by the light sweetness of the malt. The bitterness does linger moderately long after swallowing as well. 4.25/5 This is a medium bodied beer hat is surprisingly slightly creamy at first before transitioning to drying that results in a lingering dryness after swallowing. Carbonation is minimal with just a slight prickliness. 4.25/5 This is one of the best IPAs that I've had. It is very well crafted and the bitterness is just right for the amount of malt that was included in the recipe. Bitterness is all well and good but there has to be flavor to go along with it, and this beer has that flavor. 4.25/5
