Pours deep golden with a fluffy, lasting head. Thin lacing sticks.

The smell is of mandarin orange, some pink grapefruit and a hint of pine. Some caramel mixes in.

The taste is of citrus, pine, caramel. Caramel adds a sweet backbone, but it lands bitter dry.

Carbonation is very appropriate for the style, giving tit a chewy body. Refreshing and smooth. Alcohol well-covered.

This is a wonderful example of an American IPA! A nice blend of hops with a caramelized malt backbone.

12oz can (4/22/14) poured into an Allagash stemmed glass.

A - Pours a pale, orangey amber color with very good clarity. Two fingers of fluffy white head rise to the top of the beer and show excellent staying power. Dense, webby lacing is left on the glass as the head slowly dissipates.

S - Fresh grapefruit and lots of pine dominate the aroma with some grassiness and hints of mint kicked in as well. Soft, biscuity malt at the base, traces of caramel malt. Nice balanced aroma but with hops taking the lead.

T - Crisp hop bitterness up front, bitter grapefruity rind and flesh, resiny pine, faint earthy malt - again, very well balanced.

M - Medium in body with a firm, prickly carbonation that makes this quite lively. Hops are bright and crisp, very smooth and easy drinking IPA.

O - A very good IPA...approachable for newbies, sessionable for veterans. Went thru a 6 pack of these received in trade pretty quickly...was a favorite out by the pool on hot afternoons. Definitely would look for this one again.

Appearance: Gold, good head.

Smell: Piney, pretty strong.

Taste: Toffee in the background balanced with moderate citrus bitterness. Balanced, but hoppy.

Overall: I picked up a 6 pack in Illinois since this is not distributed in Minnesota. A very solid IPA with good hoppy bitterness but enough malt to help keep it in balance. I'll have to try some other Revolution beers.
