Coconut Deth finally sees the light of day after a long stay as one of our most-requested Deth's Tar variants. We've taken a long look at different coconut products and techniques (and produced one excellent draft variant) and we're finally ready to let loose upon the world.

Brownish black pour with a finger of mocha foam that fizzles away quickly to a thin ring around the edges. Aroma is fudgy, charred brownie crust. Coconut sweetness is present, but doesn’t dominate. As it warms up, it becomes more noticeable but never hits you over the head. Oaky bourbon and cinnamon in the periphery.

Familiar Deths Tar flavors of fudgy bourbon soaked brownies, toasted marshmallow, lingering oak in the aftertaste. Coconut is an accent, not the focus. Boozy warming heat, medium bodied with ample carb. Overall it’s tasty, though not heavy on the coconut. Thanks to Chris for this one!

Canned on 7/13/2022; consumed on 3/26/2024

Pours a glossy, ebony-black body capped with a short-lived half-finger of khaki-hued foam, yielding a near-blank surface as a thin, frothy ring forms the collar and minimal-no lacing hold to the walls of the glass with any longevity. 3.75

Aroma well-tempered toasty coconut background, sweeter bits trailing, splintery oak, vanilla supportive, dark cacao edges 4

Taste toasted coconut shreds atop, flaky malt, milk chocolate, building roast, bourbon accents, caramel 4

Mouthfeel medium-light body, subtle, lower-end carbonation, soft prickle, mild roast, creamy back end, easygoing warmth 3.5

Cleanly balanced coconut infusion without neglecting a robust base 4

Had on tap. Whoops this one get caught in the backlog of my review notes, better late than never. Jet black stout pour with a finger of dark brown foam. Unlike vanilla deth, this one does not lose the plot of the beloved orignal, using the coconut to bond with the vanillin nature of the dark wood barrels and while complementing the base stout brown sugar, caramel, chocolate and roasted malt notes beautifully. Smell is not as heavy with the coconut but still a great balance. Actually that is the secret here, this is not a coconut bomb, but a ba stout that actually incorporates this famous adjunct into the portfolio. Feel is the only spot where this falls a little short of the orignal for me, the coconut brightens the body a bit, but still the barrels are artfully balanced. Excellent variant

12 ounce can into a snifter. Canned 7/13/22, had 9/2/22.

Pours near black and opaque, with a brief head and a little lacing. Aromas of coconut, roasted malt, vanilla, char, some bourbon, some oak. Flavors of coconut, bourbon, roasted malt, vanilla, light oak. Smooth, a solid full body, well carbonated a touch on the high side.

Wonderful aroma and a great flavor, but the light fizziness interferes just a little. Has a good coconut presence; the barrels are a little light for a Deep Wood entry. But it’s very enjoyable.

This is just lovely. Everything I remember loving about Deth's Tar is still here. The silly chocolate, the warm caramel, the incredibly well integrated bourbon notes are seamlessly joined by a big coconut addition. It's a extra layer of sweetness to an already sweet beer but it works. So glad I got to try this.

2022 can. Poured at fridge temp. Pours pitch black with a small amount of light brown head. The nose is fantastic. Coconut, chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, toffee, a touch of cinnamon, and brown sugar. The taste is great. Roasted malts, gingerbread, cinnamon, brown sugar, toffee, bourbon, vanilla, and coconut. Lovely! The mouthfeel is thick and creamy. The aftertaste is mostly toffee and bourbon, although the ABV is barely noticeable. Really glad I got to try this!

Pours an effervescent mahogany with a pinky of mocha colored head. Minimal head retention & lacing

S: Barrel, dark fruits, cocoa, some boozeyness, not a lot

T: Cola notes, dark fruit, barrel rawness & toasted coconut at the edges, fairly dry. Dark chocolate surfaces as this beer warms, along with coconut & & Bourbon, flavors really open up. Finishes with plenty of toasty coconut, dark fruit, & dark chocolate

MF: Medium body, slight carbonation. warming; carbonation picks up as this beer warms through

ABV is very well hidden, but still a sipper. Easily one of the best Coconut beer's I've ever had
