This is as close to Dark Lord as I have tasted. Big thick motor oil hopped up imperial stout you can stand a spoon in. An inch of brown head covers a hoppy mess of motor oil thickness that redefines beer in the Three Floyds tradition of redefining American brewing in the 21st century. Have one if you missed dark lord day or you cannot wait for the end of april for your next Dark Lord fix. The description says it is Revolution; the brew pub says it was brewed in collaboration with Three Floyds.

I also gave Dark Lord a lower score than all you crazy big beer folks. I can have 2 or 3 ounces once or twice a year.

A - Black bodied beer with a brown head that had some moderate lace and good legs.

S - Roasted malts, molasses, caramel, mild coffee, a little dark fruit. Dark fruit tends to get bigger as it warms up.

T - Some decent roast, molasses, lots of dark fruit, chocolate. Just a slight bit of alcohol burn, but if you're into big beers not something that you'll likely notice or that will bother you.

M - Pretty big, full bodied, viscous. Lower carbonation.

O - Actually does compare pretty favorably to Dark Lord with the thickness and molasses/dark fruit notes. Good stuff, likely to be drank in smaller quantities.

A- motor oil black with a milk chocolate brown head that seemed inconsistent on tap. On one pour the chocolate-brown head took up 3/4 of the total pour and took several minutes to dissipate into a manageable 1-finger head. On another pour there was no head whatsoever and even when swirling the glass was difficult to generate any frothiness. The body was pitch black with no light getting through.

S- rich, sweet smells of chocolate, coffee, vanilla, cream, and maybe some dark berrry.

T- nice, sweet dark chocolate and mocha. a little bitter.

M- thick syrupie consistency, almost like you're drinking a mix of Nesquik Chocolate with a little milk. This is a true sipper that is dense, thick, and powerful--but you wouldn't want to drink too much of this. It's like liquid chocolate coffee cake. Or melted dark chocolate ice cream mixed with dark coffee. Whatever it is, it's good.

O- A very unique and powerful experience. I went back for several different rounds of this. The barrel-aged version is much more complex and enjoyable than regular Sodom, although I'd say that even the regular version is pretty rich and enjoyable.

Served on tap at GI Stout Fest.

A: thick black appearance, very dark head, little to no retention

S: deep roasted notes with a big sweet wave of molasses and caramel, notes of bold coffee in there as well, nice balance on the nose

T: all roast, not nearly as much of the sweet character like I got in the nose, great balance. Most imperial stouts this big tend to be a bit sweeter, this one maintains the nice dry roasty character that I love in smaller stouts.

MF: thick creamy, low carbonation

O: a nice bold and rich imperial stout. Revelution does not disappoint!

Yum, simple as that! Had on tap at FFF's brewpub in late August.

Appearance- Dark and lovely. Nice thick head that lasts and lasts.

Smell- A rich thick malty, roasty, almost oaky smell. I don't think this had a history in a wooden barrel, but the smell could've fooled me.

Taste- Even if I didn't know this was brewed in collab with FFF I would like to think I would've known because there are obvious traces of the beauty that is DL in here. Deep, rich flavors that are too complex to really be a draft only beer that is not going to be aged. The fact that this beer isn't going to be aged is a crime.

Mouth- Perfect! End of my notes.

Drink- For a big stout this is very drinkable.

I hope this beer is replicated and thrown in a bottle or a cask and pops up at DL-day '11.

Had on tap at 3 Floyds....

A- Pours a dark brown/black color. Half finger dark tan head which showed good retention for as little head as there was. Some light streaky lacing on the side as I drank it down.

S- Light roasted malts in the front that seem to get balanced out with a chocolate (dark) aroma. There is some darker fruits in the backend more so as it warms. Light molasses in the backend with a kiss of alcohol that tingles the nose. Very balanced in the aroma....I was surprisd that Floyds could control themself with that.

T- Roasted malts in the front of this kind of knocked me off my stool. A good fudge like chocolate takes over in the middle with some light darker fruits in the middle. Light coffee taste toward the ending with some alcohol in the tail end of the beer.

M- Heavy mouthfeel. Carbonation was light but worked well for the beer. A sweetness cover the palate with each sip showcasing the chocolate malts. Light alcohol with a burnt chocoalte flavor in the aftertaste. Flavors overall were blended well but showcased individual flavors. Palate was dryed after each sip from the alcohol.

D- This beer was a fantastic beer for both parties that were brewing it. As others have said it tasted like the better years of Dark Lord. A great drinker and could have got myself into trouble with this one.

On tap at the Three Floyds brewpub.

Aroma:Lots of roasty notes, dark malt, chocolate, a little caramel.

Appearance:Black with dark brown foam.

Taste:Very dark roasted grains and Dark chocolate hit me on the first taste. The flavor slowly fades until all that is left is just a slight taste of dark chocolate. The hops are very well masked by the extreme darkness of this beer.

Mouthfeel:The mouthfeel on this beer is amazing. The body is hugely thick, with great carbonation that bubbles from my tongue to the back of my throat.

Drinkability:This is an amazing beer. Hugely dark chocolate. A little bit harsh on the throat. Very tasty. It's reminiscent of dark lord, but not nearly as sweet and flavorful.

Consumed at the Three Floyds Brewpub.

Appearance -- A black abyss with a thin layer of deep brown head. Just beautiful.

Smell -- Lots of dark roast malt, molasses, dark chocolate, burnt brown sugar. Not especially aromatic, but what was there was exciting.

Taste -- Dark roast malt, burnt bread crusts, coffee grounds, molasses, dark brown sugar. A little bit of booze in the mix, but largely a rich mix of sweet and bitter/acrid dark roast flavors.

Mouthfeel -- FULL-bodied. As thick as Dark Lord, if not thicker. Chewy, viscous, amazing. Aside from the warmth, the alcohol was incredibly well-hidden.

Drinkability -- For anyone wishing that Dark Lord was more balanced, Sodom is the beer you seek. Thick and full-bodied with great depth of roast flavor *and* balance. Wish I could trade my bottles of Dark Lord for bottles of this. This beer probably has more to do with FFF, but it seems as though Revolution Brewing's hand helped to steady the ship. For Chicagoans it's a must-try beer!
