Night before Xmas eve, how about a can fist to the face. 10/23/15

Forced chugging pour only gives a1/2 finger fizzy head that fades semi quickly, little bubbly lacing, hazy auburn red color.

Nose brings bright hops, floral grassy bright hops, stone fruit, little citrus, generic fruity which fades fairly quickly to malts, a sweet reddish malt, with baking spices cardamom cinnamon thing.

Taste brings sweet candy malt, toffee caramel reddish malt, little syrupy, with big holiday spices, cardamom allspice clove cinnamon thing, with bitter spicy hops, bitterness also from the bitter spices, mild fruity hops. Finish sticky syrupy a feel of warming booze somehow, lots of mulling spices lingering, bitter earthy hops too.

Mouth is med bod, little syrupy, decent carb.

Overall eh.

On tap. Look is a nice deep orange. Smell gives the ginger root. Taste follows that, but not too heavy. I love ginger, so any amount is a plus. Red ale components are there too. This is a nice beer that is a good rotation into a session but I don't want to pound it all night.

Pours clear, dark amber with one inch head and high carbonation. Smells like a citrus hop bomb. Taste is not nearly as hoppy--cherry, toasted malt, ginger, and orange peel. Interesting and different take on a holiday ale. Glad I tried it. This will be a yearly holiday must get.

12oz can, dated 10/30/15
A - red-brown body with a creamy beige head that holds good retention
S - juicy citric hops, orange, caramel, faint ginger
T - juicy hops battle on the palate with the ginger which somewhat takes away from the experience; caramel and bready malt add sweetness, while some bitterness comes through as orange zest
M - medium body, ample carbonation, finishes bitter with some semi-harsh ginger lingering
O - I seem to have a love-hate feeling about this beer. The flavors are good but don't seem to meld well. That being said, it's pretty good (especially for brewing with ginger root) but nothing I'd get again.
