Notes / Commercial Description:
A crisp Czech-style pilsner named for the Lager Beer Riots of 1855, Chicago's first civil disturbance. After the Mayor raised liquor license fees and ordered taverns to close on Sundays, armed German and Irish immigrants took to the streets. The riot was stopped by the militia, but the next year the Mayor was voted out of office and the laws were restored.

Bright and saturated copper color, thin ring of foam, with some decent coverage. Visible carbonation in the glass. Darker in color than most Czech Pilsners.

Sweet malty nose, not much else. Certainly nothing in the way of hops.

Leads off with a big sweet malt flavor, vague noble hop, biscuit and tea flavors dominate. Sweetened tea, cereal grain lingers with an slight medicinal note. Smooth and easy drinking, not a bad session option. It could use a bit more crispness to enhance that, but the Czech Pilsner is traditionally sweet and malty anyhow.

On-tap at the brewery. Served in a mug.

A - White foam settles to a thin collar and wisps, but negligible lacing. Transparent golden body.

S - Bready, with toasted cereal grains, a hint of fruit, and minimal sweetness. Somewhat understated, even after it warmed up quite a bit.

T - Toasted malts and cereal grains, with some zesty and spicy herbs, and moderate hop bitterness in the finish.

M - Smooth, crisp, medium body, a dry finish, and minimal alcohol. Pretty much on point for the style.

D - It's a solid take on the style, and I appreciate the attenuation as I don't like overly fruity pilseners. Still, the mug was too much for me to consume after my meal at Kuma's corner - a tulip would have sufficed.

On-tap at the brew pub... A dark gold, very clear. An off white head with great retention and even better lacing, totally full and coating. This is a looker... A dead boring aroma, a hint of wet grains, that's it... The taste has a ton more going on. This is a heavy pilsner, strong pilsner hops, bitter finish, a little sweet grain but great. Floral bitter hops finish. Really good easy to drink and super flavorful, crisp drinker.

A really good pils, well worth trying.

On tap at the brewery’s tap:

The beer appeared a clear, light golden that produced a nice white head. The head was well retained and left some nice lacing.

The beer gave off a nice, sweet, malty aroma…as expected from this style.

The taste of the beer was good, certainly not the best Czech Pils I have ever had, but I could probably have sat there and put back a few. A light sweetness, which was extremely easy to drink. It had a lighter feel to it and excellent carbonation. Overall, a better than average beer.

Had at the brew pub in a 5oz glass. Pours a clear gold color with a nice head.

Very crisp and clean aromas of noble hops, grains and a good amount of crackers as well. Nice depth as well.

Very nice and smooth medium feel with good depth. Polished and focused with flavors of noble hops and crackers.

This was extremely good. Nice and crisp, but with a sort of fatness to the feel as well.
