Drank from a bottle poured into a totally inappropriate glass..... let's call it a big tulip glass.
Look - typical BA barleywine, light brown with very little head
Smell - oh wow, this is one of the best smelling beers I've ever had, period. Smells like brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, and maybe a little fruit, all with a touch of bourbon.
Taste - pretty great, although not as good as the smell. The flavors are similar to the smell, and the bourbon is strong but doesn't overwhelm.
Feel - also pretty great. Not quite as smooth as the Bourbon County Barleywine, which I consider to be the perfect BA barleywine, but still goes down really easy for a 13% alcohol beer.
Overall - impressive! Second best barleywine I've ever had, and the best beer I've tasted from Revolution (which is a high compliment, because they are a really good brewery). I'll definitely be buying more of this next year.

L: pours a syrupy light brown with no head. Dark drown in the glass
S: nice sweet bourbon, I also get sweet caramel covered raisins. I just wish the aroma was a bit more intense, great stuff
T: oh yeah, just like the nose but with more pop! Big barrel presence which is quickly washed over but huge caramel sweetness.
F: medium thickness, syrupy feel. It doesn't cost my mouth as some of the best do.
O: a great Ba barleywine.

Regrettably brief impression from a draught pour in Manhattan:

Gooey caramel. Caramelized fruit. Fig. Date. Tannic wood.

This most excellent ale poured from the growler in a snifter via Jungle Jim's
in Eastgate is a beautiful ruby tinged lightly murky brown with a subtle quickly
dissipating head of white foam that fades to a thin razor ring. Nose of strong
sweet bourbon, brown sugar, strong vanilla, date bread, coconut milk, and subtle
cherry notes. Flavors hit it out of the park with sweet bourbon and vanilla awash
in brown sugars, raisin and date bread fall into the middle of the taste, and dark cherry
and coconut notes like a bourbon version of a pina colada that is toasted falls solidly
on the rear with sticky molasses. Excellent mouth feel; smooth, rich, boozy, warming,
low carbonation, full body, and a boozy sweet finish.

Overall, there is NOTHING distasteful that can be said, it is as near perfection
in this style I have had this year. Excellent!

Let this beast warm----it is rewarding!

Cheers

Hazy dark amber color with tan head. Aroma has really nice bourbon, butterscotch, caramel and a bit of burned sugar. Taste starts with sweet bourbon, some dried dates, brown sugar, quite complex, tasty, not overpowering in any way. Syrupy body, low carbonation. Overall it's a great barleywine with a really nice bourbon flavor.

Bottled 12/17/15. Poured into a snifter.
This is freaking amazing and is easily one of the best beers I've ever had.

The appearance is a beautiful opaque and hazy dark brown. Almost muddy, which is just how I like my Barleywines to look.

The aroma is massive with bourbon, oak, vanilla, raisins, brown sugar, and some nuttiness.

The taste is big and sweet with vanilla, caramel, oak, bourbon spice, brown sugar, molasses and dark fruits.

The palate is full with a wonderful creaminess that lasts beautifully. Has a hint of lingering alcohol.

Overall this is a damn perfect beer that is easily one of the best beers in my favorite style, BBA English Barleywines.

L - pours a lovely ruby red crimson with a caramel brown core. Toasted iced latte froth head.

S - bright oak and loads of soft vanilla wash over the senses. Caramel and subtle raisins. Dates and pistachios. Finish is a slightly tart cherry booziness.

T - gentle and smooth. Toasted almonds. Woodsy barrel goodness with a rich vanilla bean pungence that gives it quite dessert-like quality. Bourbon sweetness and brown sugar. Starts soft and continually grows with flavor, gently easing you in and out of each sip. How polite.

F - low on the prickles and high on sticky syrupy goodness. Not terribly thick for 12.2%, but it leaves sticky residue on the teeth. It's got a robustly creamy frothy carb, but is by no means aggressive about it.

O - this is a gentle giant barleywine. Tall, commanding flavors, but isn't in your face about it. Supple and warming with great toasty flavors to keep you from freezing on this bizarre hail-filled day. I can feel the booze in the pit of my empty stomach and it feels good.
