32oz growler filled at Heinen's in University Hts., Ohio

Growler poured into a tulip. Pours a deep auburn with ruby hues and has nice clarity; creamy light khaki head that falls leaving very nice retention and lacing. The aromas have lots of coconut and caramel. Hints of cherry and toffee. The bourbon blends perfectly with everything. The flavors follow the nose perfectly. It's definitely on the sweeter side, but it works. More coconut and caramel leading the way. More toffee and cherries along with some vanilla. The bourbon blends perfectly with everything once again. It's pretty sticky. It finishes spicy as well. The alcohol is extremely well hidden. It's dangerously drinkable. The mouthfeel is full-bodied and slick with moderate carbonation, but it doesn't feel heavy at all. It's very smooth. Once again, it's dangerously drinkable.

This is a great barrel-aged brew. Balance is the key with this one. The craftsmanship is impressive.

Poured from a growler into a snifter
A: Dark brown with a very thin head
S: Prune, molasses, brown sugar, bourbon, a touch of vanilla
T: Matches the nose. Complex and delicious
M: Full-bodied, balanced, no heat
O: A beautiful barleywine. The barrel aging isn't obvious but it wouldn't be as complex if it wasn't. Absolutely delicious, creeps up on you fast as it's far too easy to drink

650ml bottle, 2017 vintage, poured into a 14oz snifter glass. Enjoyed on 2.4.17, reviewed from Tasting Journal.

The beer pours a dark burgundy color, reddish dark brown, very opaque with a thick, bone colored head, great retention and lace. The aroma is nice, excellent bourbon character, charred oak, rich grain with toasted coconut, brown sugar, caramel and toffee with some chewy nougat and stone fruits. So inviting, rich and decadent, a really impressive aroma. The flavors are nice, super dark and rich grains, light toastiness, soft bourbon with charred and chewy oak, stone fruits and brown sugar with a bit of coconut, caramel and toffee and to the sugary richness while the finish is a bit boozy. The mouthfeel is good, coating, creamy, super full bodied with gentle carbonation and a warm but easy finish.

Verdict: A very nice barrel aged barleywine from Revolution. It's quite complex, well balanced and the aroma is incredibly nuanced. One of the best beers from Revolution and a damn fine barleywine.

Pours a brown-hued garner color with a thin, light tan head that quickly dissipates into a crown.

Delightful aroma of vanilla, wood, earthy hops, creamy whiskey and some light pepper.

Refined taste up front with a lot more toffee showing than in the nose, then a repeat of the vanilla, wood and earthy bitterness, followed by some strong alcohol burn on the backend. Could use a touch of leather or tobacco, but otherwise, a really excellent mix of flavors.

Relatively thin bodied, with just some slight syrupy texture, and some pretty strong, bubbly carbonation in the feel (although hardly any in the appearance).

This is absolutely the treat I was expecting it to be. Not too sweet; not too bitter; not too heavy. This porridge is just right. Jan 2017 bottling date.

Drank from a bottle poured into a totally inappropriate glass..... let's call it a big tulip glass.
Look - typical BA barleywine, light brown with very little head
Smell - oh wow, this is one of the best smelling beers I've ever had, period. Smells like brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, and maybe a little fruit, all with a touch of bourbon.
Taste - pretty great, although not as good as the smell. The flavors are similar to the smell, and the bourbon is strong but doesn't overwhelm.
Feel - also pretty great. Not quite as smooth as the Bourbon County Barleywine, which I consider to be the perfect BA barleywine, but still goes down really easy for a 13% alcohol beer.
Overall - impressive! Second best barleywine I've ever had, and the best beer I've tasted from Revolution (which is a high compliment, because they are a really good brewery). I'll definitely be buying more of this next year.
