Style: American Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.60%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Utilizing Pale Ale malt as the base along with Caramel Malt from Chile, English Roasted Barley, and Dark Chocolate malt, the resulting medium-bodied beer is rich and complex with notes of dark roasted coffee and baker’s chocolate.

We used Warrior hops for bittering to contribute a clean crisp bitterness and a blend of Centennial and Cascade for a blast of fresh flowery hop aroma in the whirlpool. After fermentation we hit this brew with a fresh dose of Centennial and Chinook dry hops to infuse this dark ale with fresh aromas of citrus zest and pine. In our series of stouts, this one has the highest level of both hop bitterness and aroma. Hopefully you get a chance to try one on cask, it is magical!

Cellared 22oz. bottle picked up a little while back from the taproom.
A: Dark brown/black with an effervescent tan head.
S: Coffee, chocolate, and sets up a bitter flavored brew.
T: Bitter chocolate, a little coffee flavor back there, and plenty of piney hop character, with flavor that lingers for days.
M: Crisp, clear, and much more drinkable than say an imperial stout with all of the same complexity. God bless Americans.
O: The epitome of the style, in my opinion, but apparently most people, including those at the 2012 GABF already knew that. Even kept a little while, the hops still come through. I'll be looking for this one on tap when it comes back in the fall. Well done.

Beer pours a dark black with a nice brown head. Smells of sweet chocolate and molasses. Did not get a lot of hop aroma at all.

Taste was of chocolate, molasses, and sweet like a milk stout. Balanced with some bitter coffee notes at the end.

I thought this was an excellent beer.

Went by the brewery last week and picked up a growler for labor day weekend. This is one of those beers you have to try. Great malt/chocolate balance. Great carbonation and complex finish. Hints of Bourbon and vanilla in the finish.

A - Black

S - Malty, chocolatey and smoky

T - Great chocolatey and coffeeish taste. With smoky notes as well

M - Great mouthfeel. Not so creamy but very full bodied.

O - Drink it up. It's a great stout you have to try. It's on tap at the pub and brewery.

For all of those wishing to ask their sexy bartender for a rise, now comes your time..."Bartender, I was hoping you could give me a Rise." And the cool name transfers into a cool beer. An American Stout that remains true to its roots and stays a stout, rather than becoming an India Black Ale. Rise is black, complex, yet very drinkable. Not light in texture by any means. A great beer.

Another home grown beauty at the brewpub this stout served in a tulip glass appears dark black-brown with a very solid, but slim tan head that leaves an awesome blanket of lace. The aroma offers a smooth as silk blend of chocolate charcoal and subtle citrus-pine hop kiss. Hard to pick out the parts, just a beautiful oneness that is extremely pleasant. The flavor brings much the same with charcoal finishing off what starts with that hop friendly blend of Amarillo & Chinook over chocolate sweetness. This stuff is smooth with a delicate small bubbled carbonation, solidly medium bodied with very nice drinkability for the style. This may not be the average stout lover’s favorite brew but for the true hop nut, this is a very tasteful and right up my alley. The hops become somewhat more sprucey as you go with constant malt beauty. Very nice.

Poured from a 64oz growler into multiple glasses. Thanks to Chris for sharing!

A: Pours a nice stout-y black. A strong 2-3 finger layer of off-white foam forms on top before settling down to a creamy wafer that left a bunch of lace behind.

S: Hops! Fresh, green, grassy hops. Fantastic nose on this.

T: See above. Fresh green hop flavors did a great job of coating my tongue with wonderful hops. Nice bit of roast and chocolate, as well.

M: Quite prickly and bitter at first before gaining a bit of malty mellowness that does a great job of evening things out.

O: Yet another excellent Revolution beer. Perfect beer for this time of the year!

The chocolate and cocoa really stand out in this beer for me. As far as the body goes it's hearty and thick, but still smooth and appropriately "thin" for a stout. Extremely well made with a great consistency. Definitely glad I was able to try this one.

On-tap at Revolution. Unexpectedly served in a tulip.

A - A finger of mocha foam settles to a thick cap, leaving behind plenty of splotchy lace. Black body with a hint of brown at the fringes.

S - Holy hops Batman! An insane amount of citrus, pine, and floral hops - this reminds me of what Darkness used to taste like a few years ago. There's that signature Galaxy hop note in there as well. Underneath there's some roasted malt betraying the actual style, although if blindfolded I would have called this a Black IPA. Very nice in any case.

T - Taste is quite good too, but loses some of the flavors imparted by the dry-hopping. There's a bit more char, and perhaps even a touch of astringency in the finish. The malt character is one of dark chocolate and heavily roasted grains - for a Black IPA that's fine, but for a stout I expect a bit more sweetness.

M - Medium bodied, smooth texture, moderate carbonation level, and no obvious alcohol. Nothing particularly memorable here.

D - This is a very nice offering on the border "hopped-up" stout and Black IPA. I'd definitely order this again, and considered a growler (but found the price a bit high). Hope this one ends up as a seasonal when their production facility gets up and running.

Aroma is roasted malts and a complex mix of fruit, bubblegum and funky. The flavor is roasted malts, fruit, mild sweetness, hops and a very funky finish.

A - Black beer with a bit of a tan head that left some random splotches on the sides of the glass.

S - A lot of hops on this one. Nice roasted malts with a bit of chocolate and a touch of bitterness. The hops on this are great, and add a bit of a citrus note to it as well.

T - Love this beer, nice malts and chocolate, and the hops add a nice burst of tropical fruit syrup on the end that give a great finish. Little bit of coffee bitterness makes this complete.

M - Medium bodied with active carbonation.

O - Can't say enough good things about this beer, I hope it's one I'll be able to drink again. Worth stopping by for if you like a hoppy stout.

thanks ryan for this!

pours jet black, rather thick for a 7.5% ABV. chewy looking body. light cocoa head.

sweet sugar, roasted malt, faint cherry and port.

sweet through out, roasted malt and dark chocolate kick in through the middle. some dark fruit, mainly light cherry begin to develop. through the finish a citrus hop flavor emerges. finishes sweet red grapefruit.

near perfect body. great thickness and chew. mild to moderate carbonation.

for the ABV, flavor, and overall awesomeness, seek this out
