Style: American Porter

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Bean Gene is the first variation we did with our Mean Gene barrel-aged Eugene Porter.

After months socked away in bourbon barrels, we steeped it with Dark Matter coffee beans prior to bottling. Smooth and well-balanced, with hints of vanilla and an in-your-face coffee flavor, enjoy it at breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Bottle dated Dec. 2013

A: Pours a dark, dark, dark, brown - but not quite black body. Produces a thin, fizzy, half-finger khaki colored head that slides right down the glass quickly.

S: Waft is mainly bourbon, but there is definitely some chocolate, a faint java aroma, and some vanilla.

T: From first sip, my first thought is like I'm drinking a dark cup o' joe with some bourbon sloshed in it - it's really nice. There is some sweet almond, toffee, vanilla notes to finish out.

M: Thin. It's nice that to get a break from the barrel-aged, mega imperial stout that leaves you chewing at the end. This is medium body, moderately high carbonation for the style. Creamy.

O: Once again, revolution delivers. I have yet to have anything disappointing from them, and anything in the "boxed" series is top notch. This has a bit of a chocolate milk feel with some bourbon, which is fantastic. Grab if you find this one, it's worth the nearly $20 price tag.

Thank you HannyDawg for this bottle.
ST - poured from bomber into tulip.
A - Very dark with very little head to zero head. No lacing at all. Looks to be under carbed, does not taste it.
S - faint hint of bourbon and cocoa
T - very well done, nicely balanced between the bourbon, barrell, cocoa, and vanilla. No flavor over powers the next.
M - it should be a sipper, but I feel myself reaching for it like it isnt
O - Very well done from a brewery I have started to drink more of their stuff. Excited to try more from them.

Has a nice coffee finish. Don't understand the high ratings it got. Guess I'm just not that Big of a fan of the revolution porter. I have had then all and I stand by a average rating across the board. It's just ok!! I'm a stout fan.

A: Very dark reddish brown. Decent carbonation lacing on the surface but not mesmerizing as from other great porters and stouts.
S: Coffee, chocolate, and a hint of Baltic pumpernickel bread. Just a hint of bourbon.
T: Follows the smell, but a little more muted.
O: Great bourbon coffee beer. Wish I could find a couple bottles of this.

Big coffee flavor. Great beer I believe it is a little hot and would be even better aged. Has a little strong whiskey flavor which should mellow a bit with age. Great beer.

On tap in the state of origin, tannins from the oak add to the noise a soft bite, just before the subtle roasted , vanilla and toffee aromas set in. Delighted Belgium lace circled the snifter followed slowly be the leg of this warming 8.5% delight. Mouthfeel is velvety cream as the alcohol is brilliantly balanced against the residual malt sweetness. Find it , buy it and don't share it unless someone shows up with something form Cigar City.
