BEER INFO

Brewed by:
Revolution Brewing Company
Illinois, United States | website

Style: American Porter

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Bean Gene is the first variation we did with our Mean Gene barrel-aged Eugene Porter.

After months socked away in bourbon barrels, we steeped it with Dark Matter coffee beans prior to bottling. Smooth and well-balanced, with hints of vanilla and an in-your-face coffee flavor, enjoy it at breakfast, lunch or dinner.

On-tap during the Very Mad Cow release.

A: Black with woody hues. Nice cocoa-colored head.
S: Fresh coffee roast. Slight tannic sweetness, a bit of dark fruit. Nose is all about the coffee.
T: Coffee bean, dark grain, roasted malt, boozy chocolate, some dry fruity esters, light vanilla and wood.
M: Thick, light carbonation, slight alcohol bite.
O: Very nice coffee porter from Revolution. I really like the coffee they used here, and I think the beer works very well.

Served on tap at brewery. Pours a thick oily black with a collar of tan head. The nose is delightful. Deep roasty coffee paired with smooth vanilla and oak. Nose is reminiscent of kbs. Plenty of chocolate and roast. Things smell very well balanced. Taste is more of the same. Starts with bold in your face coffee, mellows out with smooth creamy vanilla and a bit of charred oak. The balance is terrific, no lingering boozieness from the barrel. Mouthfeel is big and smooth with mellow carbonation. Overall, this is a fantastic beer and should be sought out by anyone that likes barrel aged stouts.
