Notes: To commemorate our 3rd year anniversary we brewed this hearty wheat barley wine with piloncillo sugar and aged it for 4 months in Appleton rum casks. The result is something special; layers of caramel, molasses, toasted malt, oak and warmth. Cheers!

Appearance: Pours a clear chestnut color with a frothy tan head; dots and streaks of lacing lacing around

Smell: Toast, caramel, Rum, figs, pear, brown sugar, molasses and a hint of banana

Taste: Caramel, brown sugar, fig, pear and building Rum tones; in the mid-palate, molasses, toast and banana flavors arrive; a complex blend through the finish

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low to moderate carbonation; warmth in the gullet

Overall: A couple of years in the bottle really benefited this beer as the flavors have merged in an interesting fashion; we need more Wheat Wines like this

Thanks, Eziel, for the opportunity

On tap at the Kedzie brewery, 5 oz. pour plus a little more.

Deep amber, reddish at the top, sunset orange at the bottom. Thin layer of foam, thin ring at the edges after a few moments. Nice clarity, glassy still surface.

Aroma is pretty subdued, slight sweetness, that's about it.

Pretty distinct rum flavor, brown sugar and coconut, overt alcohol. Minor almond cake and oatmeal. Huh. Wish it had a little more to it, just a big boozy sweet beast. Creamy feel, full bodied. Overall not one I'll personally return to, but if you're a rum fan give it a spin.

i swear I saw barley wine before buying but no doubt a wheat wine makes more sense.

Rich caramel amber color that seems almost clear without floating elements often seen in wheat wines. Rich and sweet in aroma and taste. The rum and wheat wine elements are about as strong as they can be. What makes the beer work is that thee sweetness is not sucked into a HUGE malt body that lingers and drags on. Instead it is dry and finishes well.

Thanks to Tom for sharing this. Served in a tulip.

A - White foam settles to a thin collar, wisps, and a bit of spotty lace. Hazed amber body.

S - Aroma is somewhat understated. Oak and light spiced rum flavor, toasted grains, some caramel and toffee sweeters - perhaps a touch fruity. A bit over-oaked and rough around the edges at this stage.

T - The taste is significantly sweeter, with hefty doses of dark fruits, vanilla, treacle, and molasses. The rum note is fairly light, and there's the nebulous fruity flavor I get from most wheatwines in there as well.

M - Medium-full body, chewy, with lower carbonation. Some oaky dryness in the finish, and not entirely concealed alcohol.

D - I wish this had more rum presence and less wheatwine. Not a bad beer by any stretch, but not really up my alley either; I didn't seek out a second pour of this one. Honestly, I wish they'd just bring back 1st Year Beer.

On tap at the brewery

A - Dark, cherry wood with a deep brown and orange glow at the bottom and sides of the glass. Reflective and opaque as light reflects out from the glass. Barely any sign of a head

S - Sweet rum, vanilla, slight pear and caramel. There is also a slight amount of alcohol that you pick up from the rum as well

T - Lots of rum in this one up front. There is date, caramel, and vanilla combined with bready malt in the middle. All of these flavors together reminded me of Baba O Rum. Slight rum soaked dates and oak linger on in the the finish. This one is slightly boozy as the rum makes itself known. I'm actually surprised how much rum is in here since this did not spend that much time in the barrel.

M - Medium slightly sticky body with low carbonation. There is light oak and astringent alcohol that lingers in the finish

O - A nice rum BA beer with lots of rum presence without being overpowering. I like getting the spicy and dark fruit flavors of the barleywine with the slight alcohol bit. This one is very well done and one of Rev's better BA offerings

Brown to burgundy body with a soft, light beige head. The aroma offers booze, sugars, raisins, toffee, oak. Sweet breads and fruit soaked in booze. Maybe some cotton candy. Apples and rum in the finish. Lots of big flavor, but perhaps this would mellow out a bit with age. Overall, pretty good.

Thanks to Drucifer for handing this off at Darkness Day, as I continue my quest to consume everything wheatwine. In a barrel? Please, thank you. 22 oz. red-fist bottle split with my wife.

Pour is dark orange brown with just enough carbonation to convince me it's not carrot juice. Nose speaks to rum & caramel, though it's not of the strong or persuasive variety.

Revolution 3rd Year Beer states that it's aged in rum barrels. Really? Tastes more like rum aged in beer barrels. Hot, luscious rum takes a big bite out of my palate; beautiful. Vanilla, caramel, watery sugar, big sweet malts, with the wheat only forming a distant backdrop that might be overlooked if it weren't part of the title. Sticky, thick. Good walleye, I could drink this all night.

One off? Too bad. One of the best rum barrel-aged beers I've had to date. Revolution! Make this again! An excellent beer that breathes on elite.

I had this beer at the 3rd year party and cracked a bottle at a recent tasting. This review is from the tasting. The appearance is a burnt caramel color with nice clarity. A rim of head forms and leaves minimal lacing. The nose is full of boozy rum, caramel, sugar, and coconut. The rum basically dominates the nose. The taste is more of the same, sweet caramel and sugar cane, and tons of rum which leaves a bit of a burn on the end. The body is thick and borders on being a bit sticky. Lots of tasty flavors here, but as it is now, it leans a little too heavy on the sweet and boozy side. I'd be interested to see how this settles down in a year.

Translucent rusty brown body with no visual caebonation or head.

The smell is muted, but does have some raisin, cane sugar, and toasted coconut.

The taste is very sweet. Again, cane sugar and raisins. I even think i picked up plantain but that might just be the rum playing Caribbean tricks on me. The rum doesn't impart much booze as I was expecting. There's a touch of rubbing alcohol in the finish.

Mouthfeel is heavy and almost cloyingly sweet but it is cut with good carbonation.

It's an ok and interesting beer but I couldn't recommend it based on price alone.

22 oz. bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Deep amber. Nice white head. Medium collar. Some surface wisps.

Smell - Rum. Oaky. A bit of citrus. Caramel.

Taste - Caramel. Sharp oak. Intense oak, really. Rum comes back in a boozy finish.

Mouthfeel - Very boozy. Medium heavy. Way too oaky.

Overall - It's too oaky and the rum doesn't contribute as much as other liquors would.

22oz bomber poured into a snifter.

A- Pours a dark red/ mahogany color with a small amount of off white head quickly fading to the sides of the glass. Lacing along the sides is apparent also.

S- Smells of sweet malts and booze. Some dark fruits are noted also.

T- Starts off rather sweet with overall hints of dark fruits and sweet malts. The rum is nicely noted and definitely apparent in the back end of each taste.

M- Smooth, some bitterness, low carbonation, drinks hot with each sip leaving a warming sensation.

A nice barleywine, but as some other reviews stated, it seems overly sweet and boozy right now. Some aging will do it well.
