-from can to spiegelau ipa glass. 04.11.17. consumed 08.22.17.

A: Light tawny orange has a moderately good clarity, print readable with a strong visual show of micro-bubbles. A two finger sea-shell colored head is soapy and tall, with large air pockets lining the vessel walls. Half-glass coverage of lace finishes out.

S: Fresh passion fruit, mangoes and tart oranges are first on the nose. Light toasty malt character, with tart citrus and peach. A mid-level strength index has a short gestation. Not sure if layover could be a factor here. Aroma was a bit muddled, not really sharp and refined as I hoped from the galaxy hops.

T: Tart bitter citrus and toasted grains are first on the flavor. Passion fruit and a tart fruitiness, again, a bit muddled not really defined, hard to separate out. There are some flashes of peach, sugary fruit, but for the most part a strong citrus bitterness overlaps the galaxy hops. The finish finds a big dry hop finale, flowery citrus lingers on.

M: Lighter side of medium density, felt a bit light, bitter and juicy with a low carbonation threshold.

O: Overall the galaxy hops didn’t seem as fresh or bright as I had hoped for. Not sure if the 4 month past bottling had anything to do with it, so you may have to refer to a review that had a fresher content. The fruitiness seemed muddled, still good, just not as fresh or with an individual nature, but was big in ibu delivery. Very well hopped, and still a great beer, not sure if this was dry hopped but maybe would of benefited from a wet hopping(whirlpool/hopstand) with less dry toasted malts to let the galaxy hops shine bright. If its bitterness you want, you won’t be disappointed though.

I picked this beer up as part of a variety pack that Revolution put out. Rev puts out some of the best beers I've had so I'm pretty excited to try this version of their Hero series.

This beer pours a hazy, light amber hue that shows off some light carbonation and is topped with a thick, foamy, off white head that dissipates very slowly to a thin lacing that is retained for quite some time. 4.25/5 The aroma is very hop centric and sharp with notes of pine resin, citrus peel, tangerine, mango, pineapple, and papaya. There is a slight earthy undertone as well that provides a nice base for the fruit to work off of. Malt is essentially non-existent in the aroma. It is very fresh and clean on the nose. 4/5 The flavor starts off with a very quick, smooth taste of grain but this quickly goes away and ushers in the hops with a citrus and tropical combination that shows off some bright notes of tangerine and pineapple. A grassy, earthy tone sets in in short order after the tangerine and pineapple which brings out noticeable bitterness which is moderate in strength and lingers, but only shortly, after swallowing. 3.75/5 This beer is medium bodied with light carbonation and a bit of an astringent mouthfeel. Dryness comes on moderately, mainly after swallowing, and sticks around for a good while (this drying is much less than parching). There is a fairly smooth/creamy mouthfeel to the beer that makes it heavier than expected. 3.5/5 This is a good IPA with a much better aroma than flavor in my opinion. It feels somewhat lacking in the flavor department for such a hop heavy beer. 3.75/5

L-Semi hazy light orange color.

S-Fresh citrus....tangerines, oranges, also some light floral notes...

T-Fruity with peaches, apricots, tangerines, oranges, and lemons the most impressionable..light crackery malt.

F-Carbonation is about right....body is about right too...medium

O-Very enjoyable IPA. Gotta like Galaxy hops!

Poured a cloudy copper color with a 4F head. Good head retention.

Earthy, floral aroma.

Excellent spicy tart MF.

Intense fruit taste, earthy. Hoppy finish overshadows the taste. Tropical with warming. More pine resin with warming.

Excellent IPA. I wanted to see more fruit character.look and MF are excellent.

This has a very unique taste.... that I like....thus the high rating. A subtle hint of sweet malty notes that finishes with a nice touch of hops. Great taste. I would buy it again for sure.

I must not be a big fan of the Galaxy hop as I didn't like this one as well as some of the other Revolution Hero series.

smell is bland. the galaxy hops are there but not very strong, slight musty aroma

taste is sweet and creamy, galaxy hops are surely there

nothing special but solid. wouldn't get this again but a solid first impression for Revolution Brewing

I'm not a fan of the IPAs this brewery puts out and I'm not sure why the ratings are so high (maybe price point and alcohol content). The head brewer needs to go back to the drawing board with the malt selection, hop selection and amount used, and yeast selection plus temp at which the yeast goes to work. The taste is very crisp and lager like. It's missing that slightly fruity ale characteristic which can help make the hops pop, even in non fruit forward IPAs.

I'm just not a fan of the hops and house yeast chosen at all. It's not the yeast's fault, it's the treatment of the yeast that is poor. The hops are muddled. Good job at hiding harsh bitterness, but it really just tastes like a grassy pilsner.

Slightly better than their Anti Hero IPA, which they should discontinue for being so similar, but in the very rare echelon of amazing American IPAs, neither are worthy of 92/100 ratings. BA users have a tendency of rating beers much higher than what is actually deserved, but this 92 rating is just baffling to me. The high ratings are likely monkey see, monkey do as there are a lot of blanket ratings without proper description.
