I picked this up at the Binny's store in Bloomingdale, IL. $4.99 for a 22oz brown bottle. No freshness date and no information about the beer on the label. I did learn from their website that the "crystal" in the name is named after the predominant HOP variety used in the beer and not for a girl's name or for crystal malts.

The beer poured a hazy pale yellow color with a huge 3-finger white head that lasted about 2 minutes. Lacing was decent but there wasn't a ton of it.

I was picking up 2 main smells from this pour. First I got a fruity and citrusy aroma, followed by a fresh flowery smell. Pleasant, but not all that strong.

Strong grapefruit/tangerine flavor, which was interesting and unexpected since that is NOT a characteristic of crystal hops. There are obviously other hops in here as well. Bitterness is high at 80 IBUs, but there is enough malty sweetness in it to keep it balanced.

Medium bodied with extra high carbonation, yet it manages to still border on being creamy smooth. There seems to be more bitterness in the aftertaste than while it's in your mouth.

I liked it but not ready to put it in the outstanding category. Another solid offering from Revolution.

Aroma: Powdery American hop resins that remind me of fresh cut tangerine, orange, and lemon peel. A bit of stone fruit as well. Clean fermentation character.

Appearance: Amber colored pour with golden edging. Low off white head that retains well.

Flavor: Wonderful peach, tangerine, and orange zest flavor abounds! There is a definite American C hop bitterness that serves as a foundation to all the citrus fruit flavors. Balance it to the hop bitterness. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste lingers with resiny bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with medium-high carbonation. No heat, astringency, or creaminess noted.

Overall impression: A lovely showcase of citrus flavors expressed in this well crafted American IPA. Full disclosure: Anti-Hero is one of my favorite IPA's. This hop showcase of my favorite beer only furthers my enthusiasm for Revolution as a great brewery. Well done!

Pours with two finger head with ok lacing.
Smells tangerine citrus ..maybe lavender however that smell fades quickly then I get bread and malt
Tastes is almost non exist up front then in the back piney resin as well as the grapefruit on the back....
In my opinion it's just another ipa nothing special and either the 2 bomber I got were bad or my taste buds are out of whack. Not sure why the 90 plus rating I'd put this at no better than 80.

Had on tap. Pours hazy, orange-brown in color with 1/2 inch head. Taste is pine, grapefruit, and tangerine. Heavy bodied for the style with a sharp bitter aftertaste. Really tasty IPA that I would gladly pick up again even though I prefer others in the hero series.

(Served in a tulip glass)
A- This beer pours a clear yellowish-apricot body with a strong matrix of microbubbles. There is a thick rocky white head that sticks to the glass in lumps.

S- The aroma is like opening a fresh bag of hop pellets bright and green leaf qualities.

T- The green bright woody hops have a touch of sweetness in the finish with a lightly bright pungent aftertaste. There is a nice cream flavor that comes through in the malt flavor.

M- The medium-light mouthfeel has a tight little fizz that creates a nice creamy texture as it opens.

O- The nice IPA has some interesting classic character to the hops and a nice flavor. I’m not sure it is enough to be a hero but it is one tasty pedestrian.

Appearance: Good session ale. Golden with great lacing.

Smell: Lots of fresh grapefruit. One of the more citrus-oriented IPAs I've ever had.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Lots of grapefruit. A nice caramel backbone and some grass. Medium-bodied with great carbonation

Overall: Very good IPA. Did I mention the grapefruit?
