a tolerable hungarian offering, especially for an overtired sweaty traveller alongside his first meal in 48 hours. this pours crystal clear straw colored with a lacey whte head that has rather epic retention. smells like a euro lager with older malts and balancing hops only. flavor is the same, sort of nondiscript except for a grainy aftertaste. feel is very very light. bubbles are intense at first but mellow out to an almost absent state as it warms in the hot summer sun. flat by the last few glugs. overall its a decent session beer in budapest on a budget, but this wouldnt fly as a craft product even in the beer wastelands of the usa. still, i find myself choosing it here...

A: Light straw color, clear and 1.5 finger head.

S: Light bread malt. Not much here.

T: Bread malts, some spicey notes. Has the typical macro-lager malt and lager-yeast taste.

M: Light bodied and moderate to high carbonation. Crisp.

Overall: Actually liked this one less than Dreher.

Had on tap twice while in Budapest. Pours pale gold, very gassy, thin grassy aroma typical of the big brewers Euro lager style. Very light in taste and texture, 'acid' like from the carbonation. Thirst quenching on a hot summers day while in the city, but would not buy otherwise.

First impression is highly bitterness in this beer.

It looks o.k. With nice golden color, and bigger foam then expected for lager.
Smell is more or less typical.
Taste is very bitter, with dry finish.
Also you could taste hops and barley.
One of this, was enough for me.

Had this on my trip to Budapest recently and reviewing from notes. Poured from the 500mL bottle into a pilsner glass.

This is not a very good beer. Very typical of a Euro Pale in taste, yet also with adjuncts. Grainy. One good thing is that it washes this pizza down pretty nicely. Other than that, this one gets a big "avoid" from me.

Pours pale golden with large and fizzy head, swarming with carbonation bubbles. Some patches of downsliding lacing.

Aroma is metallic lemony malty with some grassy hops in the background. Taste is watery and slightly bittery hops with hints of grapefruit. Feels very, very light with medium carbonation.

Overall, it would not be too bad if the beer would be cheaper.

Not an example we believe of Budapest's finest. Had some head and lace. LIght yellow color. Almost no aroma. What little there is, is just beery. Nothing deeper than that. Very carbonated. Slight sweet finish. Thin body. Certainly forgettable. Go elsewhere if you have a chance. This was from a can I brought back from Budapest a couple of months ago and kept chilled.

I got this can from a colleague who has been working in Hungary for some time. “This is by far the most common Hungarian beer, and probably the one I like best”, he told me.

The colour is medium/pale yellow; the two finger head slowly sinkd sown to a lid, leaving some fine lacing.

The smell is sour with some light malt and a hint of yeast and wheat bread.

The taste is not as artificial as I had expected. There are malty notes of French loaf, some gentle sweetness, a note of sweet almonds, butter and some bitter herbs. The aftertaste got quite a bit of diacetyl, some anonymous bitter hops; the finish is in fact fresh like a Czech pilsner with some spicy hops. However, the bitterness is in the softer league.

The carbonation is average for an adjunct lager; on the edge of being sharp with very small bubbles.

A highly drinkable adjunct lager, much better than my prejudice expected!

This is the most popular beer of Hungary, so, I know it well.
Half of the people love it- and the other half calls it "borzadály"- which means awfully. But I'll try to be objective:)
after you open the bottle, you fell the smell: nothing special, on the way from the water to a beer, but closer to the water with a hint of citrus.
colour: very bright, not gold-like, but a brunch of staw.
the foam disappears after 10 seconds. no comment.
I said it's very popular- so, not suprisingly, it's very easy to drink. smooth taste, few bubbles, few alcohol (4,6%). but it leaves a bad and something-like-burnt-gum taste in your mouth.
Not recommended.

Paid 150Ft (.60EUR) for a 500mL bottle...

The beer pours a clear brown base with a beautiful large white head, exceptional pinky sized head retention for all 50 minutes and a beautiful cascade of lacing effects - maybe the prettiest beer I've ever seen! The smell is a mild sweet malt mixture, another careful sniff will find some spices tones as well.
The taste is real mild, it is very original too, it's a spiced up malt, almost Indian like in that being earthy, with a touch of hop flavor as well, light and dry aftertaste. The beer cleanses the palette with what feel like earthy spices, hard to explain, however mild in the process. Very drinkable, no signs of alcohol and it's mild enough to be a very promotable session beer.

Final Thought: This is a great beer coming from Hungary, I'm glad I brought it back with me after my adventure in Budapest, it is totally an original and worthy beer!

A very intriguing brew. This is one that my wife snuck in from Hungary on a trip home some time back. This beer is pretty sinple to describe. It pours a good golden color with something resembling a head that offers lace the entire way down. The taste is somehow reminiscint of Budweiser in the sharpness in flavor, but not the poor flavor. If you are ever in Budapest, this is one that you should try. It goes so well with Hungarian food, particularly Chicken Paprikash. Prost!
