Style: American Wild Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.20%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
In the now famous SNL skit, “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper”, Producer, “The Bruce Dickinson”, demands more cow bell from his band, Blue Oyster Cult. Here at the Barrelworks, we asked for more American Oak. Agrestic 16 is 100% single barrel American Oak-aged Agrestic. As in our other Agrestic Ale, a blend of American and French Oak, this is a rustic red ale, that is fermented in the Firestone Union, then aged and inoculated with B. Lambicus and lactobacillus in an American Oak barrel for 14 months. It is here where it develops its earthy funk, quenching acidity and complex flavor. Only the best barrels are singled out to be served “as is”. Barrel #16 lends more traditional American oak character—soft vanilla and coconut—than our blend. The Acidity is softer, and the finish dryer. The experience, nonpareil.

On tap for the Feral One release party at Firestone Walker Barrelworks in Buellton, CA.

Described as a single barrel wild ale aged only in American oak barrels.

Pours a hazy orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is sour with malt, grain, funk, acidic, and wood aromas. Taste is much the same with slightly sour malt and wood flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a sour presence that is more intense in the aroma.

Had on tap at FWBW in Buellton. Excellent beer. Poured a full whipped cream head. Soft nose but rich full flavor full of stone fruit and berries married with oak vanilla and coconut (as promised). Medium creamy feel and soft carbonation. Just a stand out!

Poured into a snifter at Beercraft in Rohnert Park CA.

A solid sour citrus nose on the amber colored brew. There was no head, but good lacing. The sour flavor reminded me of a cider on steroids thanks to the deep smell up into the sinuses. For a wild ale, I figured this one had great depth of flavor.

Very much recommended.
