Notes / Commercial Description:
Perhaps it was a way to motivate us into producing beer, or maybe it was a desperate hint at a Birthday gift. Either way, David Walker cornered us one day and asked for a sour cherry fermented beer for his 50th birthday. Nothing more was said, but we took note and the opportunity to create something new. On the occasion of David’s golden jubilee, we celebrate his mid-life mortality check with Walker’s Krieky Bones! This beer begins its life as a Flanders Red style beer aged eight months in a 2200 gallon French Oak Foeder, sour cherries were added and allowed a secondary fermentation. The aroma is of cherry pie complete with flavors of piecrust and spicy notes. Vienna malt notes give way to assertive acidity and firm carbonation to finish. A santé and happy 50th birthday David!

Everything is very subtle in this beer. The cherries, while there, are secondary to AWA citrusy, yeasty flavors. The mouthfeel is not too dry and not too thin. Not much head and not richly colored. However, everything is balanced impeccably and it is a pleasurable drink. Wish the cherries were more prevalent but that may have upset the balance. Also, they come out and play a bit more, especially on the nose, as the beer warms. I like some of the other FW barrel works beers better (hello Bretta Rose!) but it is an excellent entry into the series.

this is great stuff, a little different from many other krieks, a thin but sharp acidity punctuates this not just at the end, but seemingly at various stages throughout, light in a way, clean and lemony, but really pretty assertive too. the pink hued brew has a bright cherry aroma, tart and sweet alike, definitely akin to good pie filling, with some slight crusty notes from the malts, but this is fruit and acid driven for me, not malty. even as a sour red type, its light, not a lot of vinegar sourness, its cleaner than that, and not much of the red grains, no caramel or kilned sort of sweet or nutty to it. the fruit shines in the flavor, supported by a sturdy sweet oak profile, and a hint of tannic red wine. bacterially derived acidity is strong, i would imagine it would be tough to make a day of this one, but the flavors congeal really nicely, not overly fruited, but distinct on the cherry. the high carbonation is neat, and it serves to lighten up some of the sourness, which would otherwise be on the precipice of too much. in the end its another winner in this barrel aged series from firestone, which i cant get enough of, and which is all too hard to find in colorado. special beers these guys are doing under these labels, and this is a memorable one. a little cleaner and less funky than some of the belgian kriek types, but i think every bit as nuanced and high quality. great beer.

Pours a translucent magenta. Musty basement aroma. Sour cherry flavor, musty funk. It's very light and balanced. Only a touch of acidity. I really appreciate the finesse of this beer. Other beers might be a little more in your face delicious, but this is a kriek style ale that I would partake in more frequently.

A: Pour is a gloomy orange, misty amber color. The head is slightly off-white, which quickly disperses

S: Cherry, lemon, tangerine, citrus, and acidity are prevalent

T: Acidic and funky with notes of sour cherries and citrus being a fundamental element. Even so, hints of vanilla, cinnamon, lemon, and yeast are all there

M: Body is light to medium, where the lean is more of a medium mouthfeel and carbonation

O: Pretty good, where nothing is too prevalent or too overbearing…I would drink again

Beautiful ruby rose color off the pour. Smells like floral notes and cherries, with a hint of yeast. Tastes like strawberry-vanilla yogurt. Has nice tart cherry finish after hints of breadiness, vanilla, and sweet cherry. Lighter for an American Wild Ale, almost more like a lambic in the body. Light and pleasant
