The lead hop in Revolution 003 is a new German variety that Brewmaster Matt Brynildson first encountered in its experimental infancy while traveling through the Hallertau region during the hop harvest three years ago. “I fell in love with it then, and I’ve been following its development ever since,” he says. “It’s just loaded with this juicy mandarin orange character that is so distinctively German, unlike anything you could grow here in the states.” Luponic Distortion Revolution 003 offers a mandarin orange and ripe peach character with ample supporting notes of citrus, stone fruit and pineapple. The overall profile is round and juicy, leaning heavily on ripe fruits with minimal dank or piney edges.

Pours a light pale amber with a white head that leaves a nice trail of lace.
It has a nice fruity, nutty, spicy, malt, citrus aroma with orange, grapefruit, mango, and starfruit.
Taste is a lemon bite up front with tropical fruit - mango & starfruit - and citrus - orange and grapefruit - all hung on a solid malt backbone, slightly buttery. It finishes dry, nutty, spicy, and grassy with more lemon notes. A fully awesome IPA.

"Revolution No. 003". Canned 9/7/16; drank 9/22/16 @ the Yarchives.
See-through yellow/orange appearance.
A rough pour yielded a HUGE bright white head; strong, frothy lace.
Watermelon jolly rancher & pine needle notes in the nose.
Medium thin mouthfeel.
Pine needle & watermelon jolly rancher flavors; cloying & dry at the same time!
Totally not my IPA profile. Will I ever enjoy one of these "revolutions"?

A thanks to the commander of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a bright golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of citrus, malts. Taste is big on citrus, light peaches, moderate bitterness. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a solid beer.

Ah, the joys of The CANQuest (tm)! I am inundated with beer here at Chez Woody & I recently became inspired to take a break from the eradication of The Bottle Backlog to sift through some of the on-deck CANs. I am finding old friends & forgotten treasures as I go & so the next step may be to waffle back & forth between bottles & CANs in the hopes of finally getting caught up.
From the CAN: "Revolving Hop Series"; "Limited Release"; "Drink Within 90 Days"; "Beer Before Glory * Always Refrigerate".
I Crack!ed the CAN to reveal a brimful CAN, which to me suggests the CANducting of a gentle Glug. Even in doing so, I still got over oa finger of dense, rocky, bone-white head with good retention that left some nice lacing in its wake. Color was solid Gold (SRM = 5), bringing forth The Gelt Gang of Midas, Croesus & Mammon for a sip. I get a kick out of their excitement. Nose had a sweet citrusiness, like orange, vice grapefruit which is the more common smell & flavor. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy, but close. The taste was very mellow with very little bitterness and a good bit of sweetness. I closed my eyes to envision oranges, tangerines, apricots & tangerines. Wild! The finish had a slight bitterness, but the sweet fruitiness was what lingered. It was quite refreshing and eminently drinkable, but just a bit high in its ABV to be sessionable. Oh well. CAN't have everything.

Traded for this a while ago as the date on the bottle was from 9/1 of last year. I had one other version of this beer up at the Cloverleaf on tap and this one was just as interesting, because of the variation that was unique to this beer. It was wonderful to have something that tasted like orange juice without the pulp, rind, dankness, or pine as the description indicates. The result was something that straddled the line of a Lager because of it's clarity and low alcoholic content!
The pour to this was decent as the brassy hue was fairly radiant and topped off with a boisterous head that was a bit too lively because of this beer's age. Not much lacing was left behind as there were scattered clumps at the top of my pint glass and a few others down the side of it as I worked my way through this. Lots of mandarin orange in the muted nose with more in the taste. Amazingly juicy, this was something I could wake up to as the slickness and grapefruit meshed nicely with up-front feel. A decent amount of bite was present because of the cracker-like malt as moderate pine and dankness set in in the aftertaste; although it took a backseat to the brighter notes that were present.
Not a lot of alcohol in this and it would have been easy to down another in a sitting although this wasn't a true session beer. This almost felt like an IPL because of how smooth it felt and the mild hop bitterness. The light carbonation was another reason for this feeling but in the end, this was an IPA that trended towards the experimental side. Very unique and easy to like, and leaving me wanting to try the others in this series!

Canned on 08/23/16. This was poured into a becher pint glass. The appearance was a bronzed semi-burnt crisp orange color with a messy filmy semi-foamy head. Foamy lace forms around the glass nicely. The aroma starts with some bitter orange and grapefruit rind bursting into some piney hops and then nice malt levels hit to even things out very nicely. The flavor leans hoppy sweet to an underscore of the bitterness. Maltiness seems to hit again appropriately. Aftertaste seems to hit nice and semi-sweet with an underscore of the bitterness. The finish is the same. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a nice sessionable smooth crisp feel on my tongue. Bitternesss hits nicely in the feel. Overall, this one was a very nicely done AIPA. Really liking this series, this one is probably best one to date.
