Firestone Walker’s Luponic Distortion revolving hop series reaches firmly into the Southern Hemisphere with the release of Revolution No. 004 this month—a mind-bending mix of seven different hop varieties, led by a pair of experimental South African hops. Four South African hops take the lead in Revolution 004. Two are experimental hops with pronounced tropical fruit qualities, along with distinct white grape and floral notes. The third hop presents a lively passion fruit character, while the fourth is more classically noble in profile.

Draft at BitterCreek. Lighter IPA. Clear, golden, pour soft white head. Light hoppy aroma and taste. Nice feel and consistency. Sessionable. Very approachable.

Near bottom of the 7 Luponics I've had. Not incredible - stopped buying these.

16 ounce can into a tulip glass. Canned 12/28/16, had 4/13/17, so a little older than optimum.

Pours a clear, bright yellow, with a one inch foamy head and a decent amount of foamy lacing. Aromas of orange, grapefruit, pineapple, some lemon, pine, a hint of lime, light yeast and licorice. The taste is more pine and resin forward, then grapefruit, less pineapple and orange, light malt, a solid amount of hop bitterness throughout. Smooth, well carbonated, solid body for the style.

This is good, and assuredly would have been better a month earlier. Great aroma.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a tulip. Past it's 'best by' date by a few months.

L: Nearly clear golden pour. 2 fingers of foamy head. Great lacing.

S; Rich malts, citrus... white wine and grape must.

T/F: More malty than expected, possibly due to advanced age. Medium in body... the hop profile is interesting. Mildly citric.... some berry notes... a sense of white wine, passion fruit is present (as per the description... may not have tumbled to it myself), and some floral notes. Finish is bitter hops and mild fruit.

O: A solid IPA from Firestone Walker... no shock there, and wish I'd gotten this one super fresh. Even with some age it's quite good. Nice bitterness and a little different hop profile from the norm. Very drinkable at 5.9%.

This pours a clear gold color. I get a blueberry jammy aroma, prominent without being overpronounced. Lightly bitter with some pine and white grape. Drying finish.

Slight subtleties separating in all the Luponic Distortion series. This one strikes more champagne-like; dry wine finish; slight bitterness; and, less passion fruit than previous offerings, or perhaps the white grape and South African lead hops are more pronounced. Again an excellent beer.

Nice and clean and crisp with plenty of bitterness but no unique character. Good but generic.

12oz. can served in my Spiegelau IPA glass. Canned on 12/28/16. Pours a translucent golden-orange with a frothy, quarter inch, bright white head embedded with tiny bubbles and ringlets. Nose expresses earthy/herbal notes and citrus. Taste follows nose with the addition of a light, malty backbone. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body with a carbonation just shy of prickly and a mild acidity. Overall, solid but nothing really stands out.
