Revolution No. 009 is a showcase for “public domain” hops from the United States and Germany, offering a fresh twist on some not-so-familiar favorites. The lead hops in Revolution No. 009 include two varieties from the Pacific Northwest—one that provides exotic tropical fruit and coconut notes, and another that offers a balance of earthy pine and citrus qualities. The German hops round out the blend with a dimension of bright fruitiness.

Price: $1.42

Picked this up with a bunch of other singles and a few bombers on a recent trip to Trader Joe’s. First time I saw it in stores. Would be my ninth time having the beer in the series, keeping it going. In the past gave No. 001 a 4.09, No. 002 a 4.34, No. 003 a 4.15, No. 004 a 4.15, No. 005 a 4.07, No. 006 a 3.78, No. 007 a 3.68 and No. 008 at 3.94. Expecting this one to be in the same range (pretending No. 006 and No. 007 never happened). From their website, “Revolution No. The German hops round out the blend with a dimension of bright fruitiness.” Should be interesting (which I seem to write every time for this series).

Poured a pale clear color with 2-to-3 fingers of frothy white head. Lots of bubbles coming up from the bottom and along the sides of the glass. Outstanding sporadic lacing. Very good retention. (Sight - 4.00)

Smelled floral, mixed berry, passion fruit, grass, mango, mandarin orange and hints of coconut. From the can got mainly guava, mango and passion fruit. (Smell - 4.00)

Taste wasn’t quite as good as the nose. Very dry overall. Specifically got passion fruit, grass, bitter mango peel, mixed berry, mandarin orange, coconut, kumquat? and orange blossom. (Taste - 3.75)

Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Abrupt, dry finish. (Feel - 4.00)

This was pretty good overall. Not one of my favorites in the series, but probably somewhere in the middle. (Overall - 3.75)

Poured from a 12oz can with a canned on date of 2/12/18; into a pub glass.
Appearance- clear gold with champagne bubbles; head is a thin to medium bubbly white that leaves a thick sheet of lacing.
Smell -getting a strong floral and pine hop aroma with a hint of booze.
Taste - again, pine and floral and a touch of malt in place.
Feel - highly carbonated, bitter, yet a balanced mouthfeel.
Overall - lacks the profound hop deliciousness that I’ve come to expect from FW.

Pours into a nonic a clear light to medium golden with a thick one finger white crown atop.A mix of herb and citrus in the nose, big orange oils coming thru.On the juicy side on the palate with mango and orange flavors standing out most,a slight herbal grassy tinge comes thru in the finish.Easy drinking with some nice hop complexity going on.

12 oz can, canned 1/16/18. Pours clear straw yellow with a big bubbly white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is subdued - sweet wheaty malts with resiny hops and a little fruit.

The flavor is sweet crisp malts with light fruity resiny hops. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, a bit subdued for an IPA but one of the nicer Luponics.

Bottled 01/25/18

Appearance - Pours crystal clear and bright, golden yellow with a white, half finger's width head. Sub-par retention, resulting in a small island of suds on the center of the glass while a small ring encircles the edges. A few spots here and there make up the lace.

Smell - Lemony aroma with lesser grass, herb and dankness. Bready undertone. Faint pineapple.

Taste - Follows the nose. Lemony and herbal upfront with some grass and dank pine bitterness. Lightly toasted bread and some grain flavor make up the fair malt backbone. Aftertaste lingers with bright lemon notes and a hint of tropical fruitiness; pineapple acidity.

Mouthfeel - Light-to-medium in body with a fair amount of tingly carbonation. Slick, easy drinker with a crisp, refreshing and slightly dry finish.

Overall - I drank it out of the bottle last night and greatly prefer it to how I'm drinking it now out of the glass, as the bright and tropical hop notes seemed to shine through much better. For that reason I'm being a little more generous with my score than what I'd give it as I currently drink it, which would've netted 4's across the board.

A: Golden with some haze, decent foam and thick lacing.
N: Pine, hops, and citrus
T: Follows the nose, pine bite up front with a hoppy blast and smooth citrus mixed in.
M: Medium
O: A nice IPA but a little on the bitter side for me, overall it was good but needed a little dial down on bite.

The beer pours out a clear light golden color, with 1 finger of off white head---------------- the aromas are of dank weed, guava, pine and grapefruit--------------- the flavors are of pine, sweet malt, dank weed, eucalyptus, earthyness and lesser stone fruit, the beer has a thin mouthfeel with a medium bitterness on the finish--------------- overall this was a decent luponic distortion, not my favorite by far it was a basic west coast ipa with some sweet syrup up front followed by a earthy bitter finish---

Appearance: Clean golden, with a huge off-white head and brilliant lace.

Aroma: Superb nose of tropical fruit and zesty citrus. I get lemon, pineapple, etc.

Taste: Wickedly fruity and smooth, with a touch of malts coming in under the tongue. This is a really strong modern American IPA. Top!

Firestone Walker Brewing Co. "Luponic Distortion - Revolution No. 009"
12 fl. oz. can, "CANNED ON 02/19/18 11:28" and sampled on 07/07/18
$1.99 @ Cherry Hill Liquor, Wine & Beer (Wegmans), Cherry Hill, NJ

Number 9... number 9, number 9... ... OK, #9, let's go. The base beer is always the same and I've reviewed 8 of these already so I think we can dispense with the basics and just go to the hops. I think they're a touch more piney in the nose than some of the previous versions, but also tropical with some mango, pineapple, and grapefruit. It's not a bold aroma though, which is disappointing. I wish they were all a little bit stronger in the nose given that it's a beer all about the character of the hops. Or is it because this sample is a little bit old? The label used to read "DRINK WITHIN 90 DAYS OF CANNED ON DATE" but this is almost two months beyond that. Of course that's not on the label anymore, I'm guessing because they've had trouble with it. My retailer, for example, won't bring a new one in until they've sold out of the one currently on hand. Blame that on them for not ordering the right amount, or one the specific version if it's not that good, It doesn't matter, it's been leading to them sitting in the shelves longer. Back to the No. 009, I'm still finding the pine, pineapple, and grapefruit but no mango. I wish I knew what hops were in there. Let me look it up... well it doesn't say on their website, but it does mention a note of coconut, which is interesting, and that i can now see knowing that it's there. They also mention some German hops with a "dimension of bright fruitiness" but I'm not particularly getting that. Ahhh, I'm getting an almost chocolate note... are these the experimental "Chocolate Coconut" hops? I've heard of them but never with anything really good said about them; and now it seems almost minty in the finish, which is another interesting layer - chocolate mint. Overall it's a decent APA/IPA that is a little unusual, but doesn't knock it out of the park. I'd take another one, and I am about to head off to the beer shop in just a minute so maybe I'll even buy a six or 12-pack, but I'll just consider it as a regular drinking beer. It's worth trying though, and it's at least more interesting than some of the more recent versions. Nicely done.

I got this off the single shelf at my local Giant Eagle. It poured a clear yellow with white head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent had faint fruit notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with tropical and coconut hints. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a solid beer.

Looks very light, not much aroma, the hip flavor is very basic and not bold but overall well rounded. Not as much hoppiness as I would expect from an ipa.

Canned 03/29/18

About as pale as an IPA can get I imagine. Looks like a pils. A finger of head forms that settles just to a thin film. A little bit of lacing is left down the glass. Fruity aroma with a little bit of dankness and tropical qualities. The malt adds a bit of dry cracker type of flavor but otherwise plays no part in the beer. The hops give tropical fruit, grass, and pine flavors. Mild bitterness for an IPA. Dry character. Nice light body with proper carbonation.
