Another fine beer by Firestone Walker! I really like this IPA. It is very hoppy up front and has a lot of spicy character that you would expect. The smell is of piney, floral, and citrus hops. It has a very nice kick at 7.5% but it blends in in well for a nice taste. I would rate this as one of the better IPA's.

A friend of mine had a large blind taste testing event for IPAs and I believe this little gem took first place. I also heard it took first at GABF making it a serious brew.

Beautiful pour into an equally beautiful North Coast nonic pint glass. One finger of quickly receding head, that left substantial lacing over the top of the clear light amber liquid.

I am immediately impressed by the citrus smell that this beer carries with it. While there is a hint on some sweet malt odor to the beer, I find that the grapefruit actually twinges my nostrils a tiny bit.

Lovely mouthfeel. A well carbonated brew that is surprisingly thin and easy to quaff, really nice.

This a beer that is thoroughly consistent. Lacking the WOW factor of heavyweights such as Furious and Sculpin, this brew is really a sleeper. The moderate malt spine of this beer holds up to a nice balance of piney and aforementioned citrusy hops. A solid drinking buddy for sure.

Excellent drinkability. While there is a heavy hop bite to this West Coast IPA, it doesn't have the oily cumulative affect of some of its peers. I'm glad I opted for a sixer.

Got this beer in a trade from dyan, and was excited to try what might be considered a session beer on the west coast.

The appearance was flawless with its golden hues and delicate white head; consequently the beers appearance was very inviting.

The smell was all hops but very subtle in its introduction, yet again a very inviting attribute to the beers drinkability.

The taste at first seemed very reserved for an IPA but with the carbonation came a plethora of different flavors. With each gulp from the glass the beers flavors began to come forward. The warming of the beer certainly helped with this as well. The alcohol though high for a session beer is practically undetectable.

Mouthfeel was just right for the style, not sticky or too resinous, but pleasantly lingered on the back of the tongue and begged for more.

Drinkability on this one was high as I could see going through a sixer of these like they were water on a hot summer day. Now if only I had a steady supply of these I would be all set...

A- poured a beautiful clear amber with a big creamy white head. Head has great retention and leaves moderate lacing

S- big citrus hops aromas dominate

T- there is a great big pine and citrus hops flavor that is balanced out against the caramel malt flavors (bready)

M- a little thinner than other big flavor IPAs but it makes it a little easier to drink

O- this is a great full-flavor IPA. No flaws

A: Bubbly yellow pour, small white head leaves nice lacing, but doesn't stick around long. Bubbles stick to the side of the glass and race upwards from the bottom.

S: Very fruits hops dominate the smell. Slight caramel maltiness, and perhaps hints of piney hops. Overall hoppy, fruity, sweet.

T: Phenomenal grapefruit taste. Very fruits. A bit of dryness from the hops, very small amount of maltiness to hold it all together. Citrus, bitter, really great and well balanced taste.

MF: Light, carbonated well, dry throughout, no hint of alcohol.

O: This is a great IPA. Balanced, tasty, sweet, bitter, great smell. Really top notch.

Bottled 11/11/13

A: Pours a golden color with 2 fingers of head that slowly fades down to a nice cap

S: Nice and hoppy, with a good deal of citrus and fruitiness. Grapefruit definitely stands out. Not much malt presence compared to the hoppiness

T: Starts off with the hops. Grapefruit stands out again, along with other citrus notes and tropical fruits. Bitterness comes in shortly after. Malts do a good job at balancing things out, as it lends a very light sweetness and a bit of toastiness. Alcohol hides nicely in the background. Finishes with a moderate bitterness

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O: While this brew is hop-heavy, it somehow remains quite balanced and drinkable. Definitely cures a hop craving and would be a solid go-to IPA. Definitely worth trying

Pours a slightly cloudy, dark golden orange color with tangerine edges and a two finger frothy white head that slowly settles into a lasting collar. Very good retention with rings and streaks of soapy lacing left behind.

Slightly earthy floral hop aroma that's bursting with tropical and citrus fruit sweetness before being countered by subtle sweet malt backbone. Dank, oily and resinous with fresh buds and grassy pine followed by hints of grapefruit, mango, pineapple and orange peel. Slight caramel malt presence with toffee, biscuit and graham cracker. Very inviting.

Medium bodied with a perfect balance of dank, sticky hop bitterness, sweet citrus/tropical fruit notes and a sweet malt backbone. Dry, earthy bitterness up front with a spicy/grassy flavor along with pine needle and alpha acids. This is countered mid-palate by a juicy tropical and citrus hop flavor with notes of blood orange, grapefruit, pineapple and mango. The perfect amount of fruit sweetness without taking away from the bitterness. Decent malt backbone balancing things out without interfering with the hops. Subtle caramel sweetness along with toffee, bread, biscuit and graham cracker. A little heavier and a touch more malt than most west coast IPAs but its perfectly balanced without losing the delicious, complex hop flavor. Exemplary for the style.

Nothing fancy here; just a damn solid IPA. If you don't like fruit or pine-heavy flavor in an IPA this is definitely one to try. Pours a dark golden color and maintains quite a thick, lingering head. Smells crisp and hoppy; tastes just like a no-bullshit IPA should - hops are very evident but not overwhelming. Alcohol content is perfect for this style at 7.5%.

Look: 2-3 finger head. Great color: Light straw/golden and extremely clear. Great head retention.

Smell: Very floral and hoppy. Loads of citrus and pine. Slight malt and bread.

Taste: Nice punch of hop bitterness at first sip. Sweet malt rushes in after the bitterness fades. There is a nice earthiness and buttery flavor. Very crisp. After the sweet malt and bread/yeast fade, I'm left with a slightly smoky aftertaste.

Feel: Medium bodied. The Fizz dies out halfway through so it isn't as interesting on the tongue towards the end of the glass.

Overall: Great IPA. Well balanced between the bitterness, sweet caramel malt flavors, and hop flavor (which are citrusy and fruity).

Serving: Can into a snifter
Served: 13 November 2015

Appearance: Pours a lighter color than many other IPAs- looks like a deep golden color with straw-yellow hints, rather than the usual copper toned IPA. Crowned with a soft, soapy white head which sadly dissipates pretty quick. The beer is strong but not so much so that the head should collapse that fast.

Aroma: Massive fruity hoppiness on the nose- huge grapefruit notes, some clementine as well. A bit of resinous pine in there as well. Love the nose.

Taste: Wow, is this a fantastic IPA. Again, huge fruity hop notes - grapefruit, mandarin orange, lemongrass, and cajeput. Again, a pinch of pine, but nothing insane. This is one of the 'juiciest' IPAs I've had in a while and it is absolutely marvelous.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with medium-high carbonation. Dangerously drinkable.

Overall: This beer is similar in character to SN Torpedo, but with a lighter malt backbone. If you want a juicy IPA, this is definitely one to strongly consider. A fantastic beer. Highly recommended.

Poured from bottle into a chalice glass.

A: Almost an amber color, not quite as dark or deep but a nice orangish color with a creamy just off-white head. I poured this 20 mins ago and let it settle and the head hasn't dissipated at all.
S: Floral, grapefruit. Definitely more floral than piney.
T: Delicious? It is a really really good IPA. Hoppy but not overwhelming. Hops taste like they smell to me, floral, citrusy. A bit more pine in the taste than I picked up in the nose. Crisp, clean. Really balanced with the malts and the alcohol is subtle. Doesn't take like 7.5%. Nice clean finish with no lingering bitterness.
M: Best part. Medium body but so smooth. Its silk, in a delicious beer. This beer is making love to my mouth.

I was SO happy when I got home after purchasing a sixer of Union Jack, that it was bottled only 4 days ago! That's awesome! This fresh IPA pours an almost clear amber/golden color with a big white head that diminishes quickly. Smell is very hoppy with some sweet citrus scents. A bit of a floral smell as well. Lots of orange. The taste is delicious! I could have told you this was bottled less than a week ago, even if I hadn't looked at the date (due to the fact that it tastes like the time I had it on tap at the brewery). Never has it ever come from the bottle better than it has tonight. The mouthfeel is just perfect for an IPA...sometimes you get an IPA that has too light of a mouthfeel, but this one is awesome. The drinkability is extremely high. Drank 4 of these last night along with some BMC (don't judge me, I was playing beer pong). I was sure to save one of these fresh ones to write a review on. Firestone has made me VERY happy after drinking this and trying Parabola. Awesome job FW!

On tap with my roast pork sandwich.
Fairly impressive, nice hoppiness without overt bitterness. I'm not a huge IPA guy, but this was pretty good. I might pick up a six pack of these sometime.
