Huge thanks to Montrose79 & Cuzco for hooking this up in the Partners in Crime BIF!

A - hazy golden straw color with a bubbly head and a moderate amount of lacing.

S - HUGE aroma that doesn't fade into obscurity like so many ipas do. Light citrus coming right away, grapefruit, maybe some mango. This smells incredibly sweet - if I'm going to judge how its going to taste from the smell, this is going to be cloyingly sweet.

T - Thankfully, the sweetness I detected in the aroma didn't translate to the taste. On the first sip, I'm getting a faceshot of a nice bitter hop profile - the grapefruit is showing up as is orange peel and some bitter lemon rind. Some spicyness too - coriander, anise, and pepper.I'm loving the malt bill used in this, there is a lovely, light cracker/bready taste helping to balance everything out. I'm also detecting a little rum raisin and licorice in the back.

M - One of the thicker ipa's I've had without stepping into the double ipa realm. The medium - high body is actually nice because it has such a buttery smooth mouthfeel while the tiny bubble are massaging me into it's arms.

D - A musky, lingering bitter aftertaste is the only thing from keeping this from being a perfect 5. Otherwise, this is absolutely easing drinking, all 7.5% alcohol is masked wonderfully and I wish I had another.

golden honey-orange, good clarity, on the road to transparent. Super-active carbonation, a sticky lace ring. Medium stringy lacing.

fruity hops- peach meat, slight pine, beeswax. Not super pungent.

The taste is wonderful, a tangy citrus bite is leveled out by a nice rich sweet malt body, carrying the mango, peach, and pineapple, which is then dried out by a great alpha bill, and finally a residual bitterness that is big but welcome, earthy but one-dimensional and clean. I love the way that the beer tours the drinker through some essential features of American IPAs- the way that sweetnesss can get kicked aside by hop bitterness, the wonders of the bitter linger, the citrusy and piney qualities. I wish that I could get this all the time in Michigan.

Love the Firestone I've had before. Now that we have access to more of their stuff here in SA, I am excited to try newer beers too.

Pours a pretty, rich golden straw color. Decent lace. The nose is easy going grapefruit with a hint of pine and alcohol. Taste is big and hoppy, with strong citrus flavors and chewy grass and pine mixed in. Boozy but not unpleasant. Strong bitter finish doesn't let go easily. Firm mouthfeel.

I really like this beer. Maybe not a great session ale due to the ABV, but I could still put 2-3 back in a sitting without any trouble. Reminds me of the Grapefruit Sculpin from Ballast Point, to be honest, just with a little less citrus; but along those lines. I'll revisit the Union Jack again. Cheers.

pours a very light, transparent golden color. Head formation is highly carbonated and dissipates quickly leaving a very thin lace.

S: very sweet, tangy citrus and mango with touches of lemon and grapefruit (fruits are definitely in abundance). Bitter hops are mild but present and are well balanced within the fruits.

T: very light body, hops are definitely more pronounced in the taste compared to the nose and dominate the taste buds. The fruits are secondary here and once again mango and orange with grapefruit present.

O: this is a perfect beer for the spring and summer the temperature warms up. It's got a great balance and is full of tropical fruits and is light-medium body. Drinkability is high with this one and alcohol is unnoticeable.

from the bottle into a beer glass, look was surprisingly light and no amber hues, smell faint citrus and pine together, taste starts strong finishes fast no citrus to note despite smell, lots o' hops and a carbonated feel for a strong feel, alcohol is prevalent, good beer for a solo beer night or as a night cap.

Part of a six IPA tasting session.
Bottled on 2/16/12. 6 pack.
Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a snifter.

A: Pours a clear orange with a one finger white head.
S: Big citrus hoppy up front, followed by some sweet malts.
T: There is an initial bitterness that fades quickly, falling back on citrus hops and sweet malt flavors.
M: Sticky, medium-bodied, and well carbonated.
O: Very good, unoffensive IPA. Due to the lighter malt backbone, goes down easier than a beer like the GF Palate Wrecker in our tasting, though it was a bit stickier than double jack.

I was excited to try this brew...saw this one at the local beer shop a couple of months ago, missed my opportunity then..wasn't about to miss it a second time. Bottled on 5/24/12..so very fresh

It has a nice amber appearance, bout one finger of thick off white head, and a nice hoppy citrus smell (mostly grapefruit), with maybe a little butterscotch in there as well. The nose reminds me a lot of Stone IPA. Was excited to get into this.

Unfortunately for me Union Jack fell far short on taste, which in my book is 80 percent of the experience. This brew clocks in at 7.5% ABV and you can taste every bit of that, especially when it warms. Like a shot of rotgut vodka on the back end. Yes it has some nice hoppy grapefruit and caramel flavors but when I can taste the booze on a single IPA, I'm very dissapointed..If you're looking for an IPA to try and haven't tried Ithaca's Flower Power (my personal fav..a very underrated beer IMO), Stone IPA, or Green Flash's West Coast IPA, try those before you give this one a whirl.

Draught at the FW taproom. Clear gold with a sticky head. Smooth citric, pine and mango aroma. Solid pale malt flavor with crisp and bitter hops, but remains fairly balanced. Crisp, medium body. Solid IPA. can't wait to see this in bottles. Rerate: 12oz bottle. Plenty of malt and flavorfull hops, with enough bitterness to keep it all together, but not to overhwelm. Drinks sooo easy for 7.5%abv. Got to boost this a little from last time.

Pours a light red amber, excellent clarity. Thin head with a light pour. Aroma is hops all the way! Taste is a pure hop trip from start to finish, very bright and citrus like, smooth and subtle underlying breadiness and malts. This is a super selection for someone wanting a hops fix, a fine beer that I would have again when the hop bug bites.

BO 12-21-17
12oz bottle to Becher. Pours crystal clear dark gold. Little head, little lacing.
Aroma is balanced between faint mix of citrus, pine and malts. Little hoppiness. Taste is mildly hopped upfront with a pine bite, followed by a citrus whiff, and a lightly sweetened malt base. MF was light front to back. Hoppy bitterness throughout, yet it was smooth to the point the bitterness wasn't bad at all.

I had mixed feelings with UJ. There was a lot to like for sure, but there was also a letdown in the aroma/flavor department.
