The deepest darkest of black tar colours, had a majestically stout head of dense brown foam.

The nose is so fragrant and smooth with chocolate, caramel, toffee and char. The nose has almost a second side as date, prune and dark candied fruit become apparent. The nose than turns once more to chocolate fudge brownie.

The flavors are silky chocolate, coconut, vanilla, oak, fudge and a wisp of bourbon creme.

The feel is so velvety smooth and seductive that it's hard to give it justice. The thickness simply coats the mouth and throat.

This is unbelievable...simply unbelievable!

Thin, 1/2 finger cream head, quickly dissipating. Brew is a dark burgundy, nearly black, and glowing.

Very little on the nose, other than vanilla. It's an incredibly subtle aroma; even as it warms, just a bit of bourbon comes through, and maybe a hint of coconut and chocolate.

Incredible panoply of flavors immediately assaults the palate: toasted coconut, vanilla, and fried banana. Sweeter base bourbon and oak are firmly in the background. Plenty of caramel and molasses, as well. Some chocolate.

Very noticeable sting, but not too much heat. Smooth. Medium overall feel.

This is an incredibly complex beer that hits you with multiple flavors from first sip, and continues until the glass is empty. Absolutely fantastic.

Opened a 2013 just now and somehow got the 3rd numbered bottle in Chicago and it's the best barleywine hands down. Simply amazing.

You need to get your hands on one of these as if this is how barleywine should taste and it doesn't hurt the vanilla aromas and the nice smooth oaky background of the barrel aged process. Good luck on getting one of these and enjoy!
