Double JackDouble Jack
Notes: A dangerously drinkable Double IPA. Double Jack opens up with bright grapefruit and tangerine American hop aromas. Beautifully crafted undertones of stone fruit are revealed upon first sip, followed by the essence of blue basil and pine. A sturdy pale and crystal malt backbone brings balance to high hop intensity. Complex and aggressively hopped, and flawlessly balanced.

Amber with thin head. Moderate citrus and peach on the nose with some pine and caramel malt. The fruit is noticeable in the taste as well, as is malt and booze. Somewhat resiny. Not too sweet for the style, nicely balanced with a moderate strong bitterness. Medium mouthfeel. Really nicely done. Doubles typically aren't my favorite but I with gladly drink this one again.

Bottom line up front, this beer out performs.

S-. Solid, slight mango, pine....it's a DIPA.

T- Hints of peach, stronger grapefruit and orange, mango, melon, pineapple, mildly sweet bread, caramel malt and more piney hops.

Feel- Medium-full body, it just feels right. Finishes with the right amount of dry.

O- My last Walker offering was hurtful, very disappointing. This made the hurt dissipate. This is a VERY good DIPA, I will absolutely buy it again.

A - crystal clear golden colored beer with big white head that dissipates pretty quick and therefore not much lacing
S - big piney grapefruit, orange zest, lemon zest, peach
T - big grapefruit, pine and peach, orange zest, lemon zest, balanced by a sweet caramel malt backbone. Very clean west coast IPA. Big bitterness.
M - light to medium mouthfeel, alcohol covered, aftertaste is bitter grapefruit and pine.
O - great ipa. Definitely a classic west coast ipa. One of the first of the style that I tried.

L - brilliantly clear, refreshing sight given the current NE-style IPA trend - orange-gold, creamy white head
S - ripe pineapple, strawberry, peach, grapefruit/orange rind
T - peach, grapefruit, resin, faint biscuit malt, alcohol is present but well integrated
F - medium body, crisp, sweet, wet
O - deceptively easy-drinking, one of the better DIPA's I've ever had - file under: dangerously poundable

On tap at Verona Inn. Firestone does one better on their initial Union Jack foray with this double. Superb rendition of the genre with a powerful hop flavor that is both intense and enjoyable. This beer was a pleasure to drink.

Bottled 6 April 2012. Thanks to wsucoug96 for the sweet extra.

Pours very clear golden yellow, the color of apple juice, with a few little streams of bubbles, that oddly aren't centered on the nucleation point of my Duvel tulip. One finger of really dense just-off-white head. Super dense head, with loads of lacing.

Smell is nice citrusy grapefruit hops. Heavy on the grapefruit, with both the citrus and the acidic twang. I like it. Has a good fullness underneath the hops, with some light sweetness supporting the hops. Doesn't rush into the nose the way my favorite DIPAs do, but it's good.

Taste is good - beefy, malty, and hoppy, but balanced. Has enough malts to keep up with all those hops, which is one of the reasons I prefer stronger IPAs. Includes a nice shot of bitterness, as expected, but it peaks in the middle and drops off late. Finish is more fruity than bitter.

Medium-heavy body, quite sticky. Moderate carbonation, persistent finish.

A nice citrus-bitter-balanced double IPA. I'd put it just a step below the top tier.

Appearance: Pours vivid, dark orange color. Pours with a good amount of head with good lacing. Pours a good looking beer, dudes and ettes!

Smell: Hops, citrus (grapfruit?), and a piney earthiness. There is also a hint of sweet malt in there somewhere. Got me stoked about drinking this. There is also a very large pineapple scent that balances the intense hoppiness.

Taste: Alcohol is faintly recognizable in finish. Green apple, grapefruit, sweet malt, earthiness, and hops (of course). Definitely hop focused. I catch a bit of a dry hop in the distance that sort of acts as a reminder (amidst all the other flavors) of why we drink DIPAs-- for the hops fools! Some have complained of a lack of balance. I didn't get that in this particular case; well balanced I thought-- especially with the balance of a very citrusy, pineapple-like flavor. Brilliant!

Mouth: Medium bodied with even carbonation. Quite lively. Spot on for the style.

Overall: I'd say that its slightly less good than the hype, but, dude, it really is a killer beer. I would have liked to seen a stronger presence of the sweeter and earthier tones to balance the hops even more. I think thats the difference between really really good and masterful. I will drink this again FOR SURE whenever its to be found. One of my current favorites. I think its every bit as good as Ale Mucho Hoppo from Charleville!

Big bouquet of juicy tropical fruit - mango, pineapple, grapefruit. Light amber, crystal clear with a thick, airy, egg white head and excellent retention.
Bright, clean flavours, lightly fruity and a touch of toffee, with a super dry, bitter finish that isn't too aggressive for a DIPA. Lingers on the palate, drawing you in for more, and since the high abv is is nowhere to be seen, you're unlikely to resist (but it does catch up to you!). Medium body and medium/light carbonation, full and buttery mouthfeel.
This is a beauty, I'm usually wary of intense malt sweetness with DIPAs, and this one is just perfectly balanced.
