12oz. bottled on 01/05/16

Pours clear gold-amber orange with a dense creamy off-white foam head. Smells like big toffee, caramel, biscuit, grapefruit, papaya, mango, orange, pineapple, with mild pine and floral grass. Tastes like sweet malty dark caramel and toffee, biscuit, orange, papaya, pineapple, grapefruit, mango, with dank pine and floral earthy grass. Feels light-medium bodied, creamy with moderate carbonation. Overall a real nice double IPA.

Golden color, good clarity. Poured nice white head with good retention for the beer strength.

Big pine and caramel malt aroma. Rich and sweet. Maybe a little too sweet smelling.

Big caramel sweetness up front to blend with the big pine hop flavors (matching the aroma). Some alcohol as well. Subtle bitterness kick late mouth, and a gentle bitter finish. Expect bigger hop bitterness.

Moderately high body, medium carbonation. Distinct but pleasant alcohol warming.

Tastes like a bigger IPA, so hits the mark stylistically. Bitterness could be bigger in my view...lots of resididual sweetness.

Pours a crystal clear fiery-orange. You could read through it, it's so clear. The head is white, frothy and foamy with moderate retention. Good lacing. Wonderful notes of pine, resin , and citrus hops in the aroma. Taste is a smooth play between pine and resin hops versus citrus. Great notes, well balanced, and inviting enough to warrant an immediate follow-up sip. Mouth feel is medium, with good smooth characteristics. Easy to drink despite being an "IPA"* and 9.5%. Overall, a very pleasing beer that goes back easy.

Served in a 12oz snifter.

*Only say this because some consider "IPAs" difficult to drink. This one is on the smoother side in my opinion.

Enjoyed in a tulip glass.

A: A clear golden amber with off-white one finger head that lingered.

S: Tropical goodness featuring grapefruit, orange, lemon and pine resin.

T: Bursting with grapefruit, pine resin and bready malts. Smooth and balanced. So deadly drinkable.

M: Medium with medium, creamy carbonation.

O: Another prize in the FW stable. Wish I had this one every week.

This is a re-review form years passed.

Bottled 3/11/16, consumed 4/15/16.

As fresh as you can get Double Jack, unfortunately.

Pours crystal clear, with some nice foam sticking around the sides of the glass. Very nice.

Smells earthy. Like earthy pineapple. Some pine and resin there as well.

Taste follows with a good amount of bitterness and pine/ resinous. Very west-coast. Has juicey quality to back it up as well.

Clear golden orange, large upfront head with low retention, leaving a foam ring.

Aromas of pine, grapefruit and bubblegum.

Flavors of caramel, toffee, and a spicy hop bite, but it's surprisingly not too bitter.

Double Jack is not as light and fizzy as regular Union or Easy Jacks, as it's a little more substantial, so that's a plus. However, I'm not as blown away as I was told I would be.

Out of all the San Diego double IPA's, this is unfortunately one of my least favorite. Poured into a pint glass from a 22 oz bottle. The look is a nice golden ale with small thick head. Smell, mild piney, muted. Taste was disappointing with less hoppy taste than I expected, too much alcohol flavor than other 9.5% double IPA's, and more of a resinous taste than I prefer. The feel is about right for a double IPA with normal carbonation. Overall, I was disappointed with this one.

Good orange with a small 1/4" white head. Aroma went citrus and tropical. Dropped some grapefruit in there too.

Taste was hoppy in a high level, when fresh its super great, although that seems to prove a difficult task sometimes, I believe at the corner market right now by my place, there is some December '14 bottles of double jack. Good they went with 4 packs at least finally. Its a very good dipa, plenty of hop mouthfeel, not overly caramel/crystal malt stuff here. Clean, tropical medley of hop flavors here. Dry finish.

A - crystal clear golden colored beer with big white head that dissipates pretty quick and therefore not much lacing
S - big piney grapefruit, orange zest, lemon zest, peach
T - big grapefruit, pine and peach, orange zest, lemon zest, balanced by a sweet caramel malt backbone. Very clean west coast IPA. Big bitterness.
M - light to medium mouthfeel, alcohol covered, aftertaste is bitter grapefruit and pine.
O - great ipa. Definitely a classic west coast ipa. One of the first of the style that I tried.

From notes taken 03/09/16:

Semi-clear golden amber with lemon white head of medium retention, delicate, foamy, crispy, lacy, and filmy. Crackers, resin, caramel, sweet orange, raisin aromas. On the palate, very boozy, and strong with resinous, rindy, spicy, and extremely perfumey hop character, having a backbone of tartness, crackers, and caramel. Takes a little getting used to. Certainly not as citrusy or fruity-sweet as a number of Imperial IPAs. Very peppery afterbreath. Dry and fairly astringent. Full-bodied, fluffy and soft carbonation, warming to burning with alcohol. It’s not bad, but aromas are generic and perfumey hops are generally too much for me. I respect and appreciate the high ABV, though.

Poured from bottle into pilsner, all they had. Nice 2 finger head, leaves nice lacing. Clear golden to look at. Nice hop aroma. Nice drinking beer, not too bitter and love the mouthfeel on this

poured into a tulip glass. Nice clear amber hue. Smell is straight hops with a little grapefruit. Same goes for the taste. starts citrus, goes right into the hop character and then finished with a subtle malt sweetness. Solid DIPA that drinks easy for the high ABV.

I've had this beer many times and I bought another half dozen a few days ago.

(L) It has a clear golden hue with a two inch white head.

(A) The aroma is citrus and tropical fruit.

(T) The taste grassy, sweet, the typical IPA grapefruit taste, tropical fruit, not alcohol taste, and it is easy drinking.

(F) Crisp, smooth, fairly carbonated, and overall extremely good.

A very nice double IPA. It has a lot more malt than other IPAs that I've tried, which gives it a nice, sweet, finish that complements/balances the bitterness of the IPA.

I typically do not like as much malt in an IPA as this, but it is pleasant, and a well-crafted beer and definitely one I would recommend.

look: nice mid-amber with a slight head
smell: sweet for an IPA, definite malty sent over a milder citrus
taste: initial piney/citrus but quickly followed by a brown-sugary/maltness with a lingering bitterness
feel: pleasant

Color: poured into tulip, thin white 1 finger head that quickly dissipated and left nice lacing on the glass, clear orange to copper color. Aroma: amazing, grapefruit, pine, molasses. Taste: initial citrus and pine gives way to brown sugar and biscuit from malt finishes with alcohol and a resin that builds as you drink. Feel: medium body, dryness from alcohol. Overall: incredibly balanced IPA that drinks way too easy for its alcohol content!

This is really good, would buy again. Had about 5 weeks out from bottling date. Piney and sweet malt in the nose, some citrusy crispness as well. Warming alcohol toward the end and a fairly dry finish. Juicy hops toward the middle.

pours nice off orange. minimal head that dissipated quickly. smells nice sweet orange and light pine. some grapefruit peel. citrus hits up front with melon and tangerine grapefruit. some pine comes through but very mellow. mouthfeel is medium and finishes with nice lingering bitterness that makes my cheeks pucker. great west coast ipa. different for me cause I drink the hazy eastcoast stuff a lot. but this beer has a lot to offer and Is a nice blast of citrus from the west. would def drink again.

Palest amber with cratered off-white head. 4
Juicy lemon balm with some pastry - a bit dim, though. 3.75
Thread of caramel, then tangerine, pineapple, pink grapefruit, some dank, and big Simcoe pine hit. 4.25
Yellow Swedish fish end and Alka-Seltzer linger.
Halfway to med, salty, slight cling. 4

Bittering—Warrior, Columbus; Late Kettle—Cascade, Centennial; Dry Hops—Amarillo, Cascade, Centennial, Simcoe

7 months out from Jul.10 bottling date - welcome to American imports to Europe. For that, there's still a bang of citrus, lots of Lagunitas-esque juice and even more pine. But the story here is the body - easy on the malts to get super-crisp yet with no heat, miraculously. Ranks with any Cali DIPA. 4.5

Nice little head on it. Color of light orange/Amber. Smell of tropical fruits like mango and melon, pineapple and grapefruit. Obviously hops. Taste of orange peel, pineapple grapefruit with hints of tangerine, oranges, floral and piney hops with notes of melon. Finish a smooth with a mouthfeel of malt and hops. A decent DIPA with a nice balance.

Poured from bottle into pint glass
Appearance: Orange/amber. About 1.5 fingers of head.
Smell: Lots of hops with mild citrus
Taste: Heavy hop character is obvious (duh, it's an double IPA). Also, a grapefruit flavor is detectable. A bitter, but not entirely unpleasant, aftertaste is noticeable.
Mouthfeel: Good amount of carbonation. Very smooth going down.
Overall: I really enjoy IPAs, but this was just a bit to hoppy for my personal taste. Still, I would definitely highly recommend this beer, especially if you are an IPA fan.

From 650 ml bottle filled December 22, 2015 at restaurant.
Look, dark, deep, clear gold, little head.
Smell, lemony hops.
Taste, well balanced, not too hoppy.
Smooth pleasant feel, body, but not syrupy.
Overall, nice double, but not as complex or flavorful as Epiphany.

Look: An extremely pretty golden/amber hue. Some carbonation throughout thst leaves a pretty white lace behind.

Smell: The tropical and citrus notes that are suppose to resonate throughout aren't as strong as I hoped, but are still very intoxicating. You can pick up some pine tree notes as well that a hidden pretty well.

Taste: The first sip I was hit with mangos and grapefruit. I hot some orange peels midway through. There are some great malty earthy tones that help balance out the huge tropical bitterness that comes out towards the end. Also a little bit of spice, but not a lot.

Mouthfeel: Not as great as any of the Alpine ones I've had, but still decently smooth. The mild carbonation gives it a nice soft feeling.

Overall: I'd drink this brew again. It's not that bad for a four pack and is something that competes with another DIPA goto of mine, 90 Minute.
