Big bouquet of juicy tropical fruit - mango, pineapple, grapefruit. Light amber, crystal clear with a thick, airy, egg white head and excellent retention.
Bright, clean flavours, lightly fruity and a touch of toffee, with a super dry, bitter finish that isn't too aggressive for a DIPA. Lingers on the palate, drawing you in for more, and since the high abv is is nowhere to be seen, you're unlikely to resist (but it does catch up to you!). Medium body and medium/light carbonation, full and buttery mouthfeel.
This is a beauty, I'm usually wary of intense malt sweetness with DIPAs, and this one is just perfectly balanced.

I had this on draught in a bar. It was served in a pilsener glass. It pours a clear, golden-amber color with one finger of fluffy, milk-white head and lacing. It smells of lemon, grapefruit, pine, and floral hops. The taste features a nice malt base with some sweet tropical fruit, citrus, and a blast of bitter, biting hops at the finish. This ale is dry, medium-bodied with lively carbonation, and its 9.5% ABV is potent but not overwhelming. Overall, it is a well-crafted and extremely good DIPA. It deserves its world-class rating. My only concern is that we don't always get it fresh on the East Coast.

Look: 4.25
Beautiful crystal clear gold color. 1-2 finger head. Decent head retention: hangs on for quite a while before backing off and leaving lacing behind.

Smell: 4.25
Nice floral bouquet and citrus. Slight earthiness and malt aroma. Could be stronger though.

Taste: 4.75
Powerful bitterness at first, but quickly bursts into sweet caramel malt. Some tropical fruit flavors swirl around as the brew starts to dry out and nudge back into the bitter category.

Feel: 4.5
Medium bodied. Pretty oily from many hops I presume. Stays pretty active but flattens a bit towards the end.

Overall: 4.75
Great Double IPA. Just enough hop bitterness. Balanced by sweet malt and hop bitterness and flavor. There’s a definite alcohol burn – High ABV. Nicely done Firestone Walker!
