On tap at Orenco Taphouse.

Gorgeous blend of barleywine and stout. Roast, chocolate, caramel, toffee, dark honey, soft wood. The palate opens with a rich, creamy and luxurious blend of cocoa, caramel and toffee. Lovely, rich, creamy, smooth mouthfeel. The FW anniversary beers are usually lighter in body and this is no exception, and it works especially well this year.

This is definitely really good but why does it mostly leave me with something to be desired? This isn't a cheap brew and I feel like I'd be more into what this is if it was 6 bucks not 12

12oz bottle poured into 16oz tulip. Poured a nearly solid black color (using 2 Stouts and a Quad in the blend could cause that) with about 1/4 inch of tan head that quickly dissipated and left very low lacing.

There was a lot going on in the nose: wood, booze, stone fruits, alcohol, no apparent hop presence, and even the grains were overpowered. The dominant feature seemed to be an overall sweetness.

Fairly similar on the tongue, with the alcohol being strongest, just to the point of being hot. All the other features were still readily apparent though.

The body, as would be expected, was full, sticky, smooth, and had a sweet finish with the alcohol heat lingering.

Drinkability was good, as expected, but I can't see drinking 2 in a row.

Overall, this beer is really good, but just seems to miss the mark a slight bit. Not so much that I might not buy a couple bottles to set aside mind you, just barely a bit lacking. Still, most certainly worth grabbing when you see it.

Like all the FW anniversary ales I’ve had before this bottle, this was complex and delicious in so many ways it’s almost hard to describe. The flavors I tasted were bourbon, caramel, dark chocolate, toffee, sweet malt, oaky notes, charred wood, bakers chocolate, cocoa powder, spices like rye, whiskey, some piney accents and grassy hops in the finish. No ABV heat and mild touches of tequila after some sips made drinking this a pleasure.

12oz bottle. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, khaki-colored head of foam. It left minimal lacing on the glass. It smelled of vanilla, oak, toffee, chocolate, bourbon and woody notes. Boozy taste with bourbon, oak, vanilla, dark chocolate and sweet toffee.

Very dark beer, pretty much just all black, with a little off white head that quickly dissipates, leaving some moderate lacing.

One of the best smelling beers I can remember. Very fruity, more dark fruit like black cherries. Also hints of coconut, bourbon, oak, and chocolate.

It is a touch sweet at first, dark chocolate and coconut notes, hints of toffee and bourbon. Nicely complex, they all work well together.

Silky smooth on the tongue, just a hint of warmth as well.

Another great anniversary beer, haven't had one yet I didn't rave about. Nice complex brew here, well worthy of the title of the 25th anniversary.

mmm. dark, quasi-opaque pour, nice little foam on my "gentleman's taster", receding to a light yet persistent, gurgling ring around the fill line; lacing like melting snow. Appetizing nose, i get barrel wood, coffee, toffee, dark choco and an indescribable mélange of spicy stuffs. Tongue is as just appealing, recollections of the base blending brews emerge... but with a tangy-yet-bittersweet quality (kinda like a Westy XII?!) . i detect a certain lemon-lime tinge to it. Nice deep syrupy feel, smooth swallow.

Catch 'em while ya can!

Appearance: Very dark-brown color with a medium-sized beige head that gradually faded. A nice looking dark Strong Ale.

Smell: Moderate Bourbon and moderate brown sugar aromas and faint tequila aromas. The tequila aged components are noticeable in this blend compared to past years that used some beers aged in tequila barrels, at least for me.

Taste: Similar to some of the recent FW Anniversary beers I pick up Bourbon notes, brown sugar/toffee notes, but like the nose suggests I get some mild tequila notes. I also get some faint vanilla and tannic oak notes from the bal-aging. The beer starts off somewhat sweet like many of the FW Anniversary beers but dries out nicely with some tequila and oak notes to end up fairly dry. The alcohol presence is very mild for the listed as 11.5% ABV

Mouth-feel: On the lighter side of medium bodied with a medium level of carbonation. Not overly thick but not too thin either.

Overall: I'm a fan of the Firestone Walker Anniversary beers and this blend didn't disappoint. The notable tequila barrel aged blend component was an interesting touch and I feel helped the beer from being on the sweet side. nicely done.
