The darkest brown body with an oatmeal colored head. Huge blends of oak, with solid wafts of tequila, barley, general booze, caramel malt and dark fruit in the nose. Taste is centered on huge wood as well, but waves of sweetness in caramel, cola, agave, dark fruit and molasses with only faint leather and licorice to temper. Just not as artful as a blend as year past. Feel is warm verging on hot, but viscous and thick for style, wood dominates otherwise. It solid, which is disappointing for a series that has been top notch for years

I'd been looking with great envy at how West coast BAs regard the output of this brewery until my daughter came through with a Christmas present. Today was Father's day so why not.

Whoever does the blending of this really knows their craft because this is very refreshing in taste and mouthfeel. It doesn't feel complex so much as very easy to drink; probably dangerously so if I wasn't planning on remaining relatively stationary. I wish I had additional bottles to age because I think cellaring might do very interesting things but that's for some lucky soul to discover on his/her own. I'm just glad I had this. Sláinte.

After a few of these it’s time to crack my knuckles & type some words about it. 12 oz. bottle with a classy, severe label of blue & pale gold.

The pour is just light of stout, with some dark brown & cerise creeping around the edges. For all the components, the nose is surprisingly light: booze & chocolate. More coming, I hope.

Firestone Walker XXV enters the lower echelon of a fabled line of anniversary brews. Impressions I’ve had of this beer are confirmed: it’s thin & muddled. For all the marvelous beers dunked herein, what results is light barrel, mostly brandy, faint chocolate, light tequila (growing as it warms), leather, & a finish of oak. Splitting the bottle with my lovely wife, as I have in the past, seems like a good idea now.

Flipping back, this is the weakest of the series since XVII. A pretty good beer. Disappointing.

Bottle Date: 2021
Palate Contaminants: none

Dark brown color with tan head. Not much of that, though, so not much lacing.

Sticky dark fruit on the nose, and there's a savory depth to it. A little raisin, a little prune, and a little fig. There's also some creamer/lactic scent going on, as well as vanilla and clove. Very pleasant.

It's even heavier on the fruit in the taste, and I'd especially say the raisin is dialed up. Distinct sweetness, although it's not overpowering. The next main flavor is coffee, and it goes along with moderate-light bitterness. The sweetness seems to link to brown sugar late.

Weight is heavy; it sits on the back of my tongue. Carbonation is fine and well integrated. Alcohol taste isn't much present, although one can feel the ABV eventually. Unsurprisingly, the aftertaste is coffee and raisins.

Picked up a 12 oz bottle while visiting PHX 3-11-22 for $9.99. Also brought back a Crowler to share with friends. Consumed for review 5-17-22.

Beer poured dark brown with an okay tan head.

Nose is quite nice, bourbon, leather, vanilla, and tequila are very pungent.

Taste is superb, a large malt base comprised of five different beers allows the bourbon, vanilla, tequila, and dark fruits to express nicely with the usual amount of hopping still remaining, along with the barrel presence, to balance the finish.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and very smooth.

Overall another delightful Anniversary brew...will need to work on obtaining some every year!

Appearance: Pours espresso colored with a thin beige head that fades to a ringlet; dots of lacing

Smell: Other than the blend of various barrel aromatics (Bourbon and Brandy, with a hint of Tequila) the caramel is significant along with a spice cake character

Taste: Caramel and spice cake forward with the barrel blend emerging; even though the Bourbon barrels predominate it is the Brandy barrel which directs the flavor profile; the Tequila arrives in the rear; sticky, sweet and complex finish that is reminiscent of a Dr Pepper

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with moderate carbonation; some warmth in the gullet

Overall: Just another great beer from the barrel aging pros

Growler into pint glass. Pours an inky black with essentially no head. Initial impression is surprisingly easy-drinking, with notes of blackstrap molasses, caramel, roasted malts, booze, and a touch of bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium, thick and smooth yet dinitely not cloying. Finish is slightly boozy, but so well balanced that it is an asset rather than an issue. Overall, this is one of the most enjoyable Strong Ales in my admittedly limited experience. Try it - you won't be disappointed!

I am becoming a huge Firestone Walker fan. Everything I have tried has been excellent. This is my first Anniversary Ale. So much going on with the blended taste but quite enjoyable. Not too boozy. A nice sitting at home sipper. Deep rich black color. Easy drinking. I will have to find some more.

Pours black with two and a half fingers of dense khaki-colored foam. A deep foam ring forms around the top of the beer for a long while after the pour. Aroma is heavy roasty and toasty malts with thick caramel and earthy malts behind. Interstitial space is full of barrel, whiskey, brown sugar, dark fruits, and some faint notes of fudge. It has a sweet start, but is undercut by spicy whiskey, although in harmony, this works to create a beautiful balance. Flavor profile is roasty, toasty, and earthy malts. Dark fruits, caramel, and molasses develop a smooth sweetness, which is balanced out by late whiskey and barrel. The latter offers up some heavy, strong notes, without being hot. Some sticky, resiny hops sit in between the sugary notes, adding a little bitterness for balance. Mouth feel is thick with a near soft effervescence, carrying just enough silt to keep it from being plush. Instead, this silt works to elevate the texture out of forgettable. Overall, incredibly rich in depth and notes. It drinks smooth, without coming off complex, and yet there are layers to peel away in every sip.

Served in a 15.5oz Spiegelau tulip from a 12oz bottle.

Bottled 2021. Poured at 52°. Dark brown/black with ruby hues; creamy tan head with a few rocks; ok cap retention, solid ring; some sudsy lace; thin legs. Tequila and oak nose; boozy exhale. Sweet caramel and sugary raisins; some sharp tequila immediately follows; oaky vanilla and chocolate as beer warms. Medium plus body, silky feel; burn on tip of tongue; warmth from 11.5% abv; light carbonation; dry wooden finish. Overall, this blend of multiple barrels, including Tequila Barrel Merkin (28%) is sharp and spirits forward; the rest is nice, but the tequila continues to linger as I finish this review; good, but not what I want…

I have had the last few years of this series, and they’ve all been great (still have to rate 24, however). Wanted to rate this one fresh. Very barrel forward. Dark brown, foamy head, lasting lacing. Notes of dark fruit, molasses, and brandy on the nose. Barrels are quite assertive on the taste. Dark fruit presence again, slightly sweet. It’s thinner than I expected, have to see if it rounds as it warms. Very boozy. I think with some age, this is going to be an excellent beer.

I very much want to find a couple of more copies and cellar them as 25 needs some time to blend its blend.
25 is only my second in this series (I'm always late to parties.) But this whole process of collaboratively blending with winemakers that is described on the sheet in the box is as elaborate as I can imagine for a brewer and very Californiana.

I will do this brew justice and finish this review after I've aged and mellowed 25. Great potential.

A surprisingly thin pour, damn near black, small khaki head fades quickly, leaving a bit of lace. Snot locker got some dark fruit and some booze, just to much for my old nose to discern. Unfortunately, my taste buds were beaten up here. Thin. I thought this was going to be ridiculously sweet, it wasn't.

Bottle pour- Dark as can be with short khaki head leaving scattered lacing and a ring of bubbles. Nose highlights the barrels. Taste follows with a mix , although the tequila seems noticeable.Boozy barrel wood lingers into the finish. I really enjoyed the 5 separate components - sometimes the whole is not greater than the sum of its parts.

Big toffee and caramel from the barrels. The brandy barrel really shines and get some of the tequila barrel at the end. Nicely balanced and not very boozy given the abv and 5 barrels. This is a really good sipper

The beer pours a nice tan head that is creamy and dissipates fairly quickly. The beer itself has a very dark brown cola like color that looks pretty nice and thin texture with an oily sheen on top.

The smell is good. The main notes are the various spirits with the tequila and brandy upfront with a bit of rum. The dark chocolate and caramel notes comes out in the finish.

The taste is pretty good. The upfront notes consist of the barrel notes; specifically the tequila and brandy with a light whiskey and bourbon at the end. After the barrel notes, there is a sweet fig and light caramel note alongside a sweet dark chocolate note in the finish. There is also a light oak note when the beer is cooler but gets lost as it warms up.

The feel is good. It has a thin body with a bit of medium body to it. The carbonation is very little but what there is is tingling.

Overall, this was a pretty good blend and strong ale, if a bit young. I think holding onto this for a while longer would have been a better idea.

Interesting. There may have been too much going on with this for me to call it spectacular, but in its own malty, figgy, caramely way it was very good. It was a bit sweeter than I wanted, yet I enjoyed it for the hour it took to drink it, and it got tastier as it warmed up. Given that it's bottle of wine priced, I don't think I'll get more, but I'm glad I had this one.

Bottled 3/14/21; drank 1/25/22 @ the Yarchives.

Opaque dark brown appearance.

An even pour yielded a nice tan head; frothy, tree-rung lace.

Oak, cream, tequila, mild cinnamon & faint chocolate notes.

Creamy, medium thick mouthfeel.

Oak & mild tequila flavors up front; cream & mild cinnamon notes on the finish.

A bit slight & somehow abrasive; not much for me to enjoy here.
