Notes: Parabola each year is full of intense flavors of black cherry, dark chocolate and roasted coffee—yet each annual release also bears its own subtle imprint. For the first time ever, this edition was aged for one year in an equal mix of bourbon, rye and wheat whiskey barrels, accentuating the beer’s signature richness and intensity with vintage-specific hints of black pepper and cereal grain.

Midnight black with a full finger of brown foam. Bourbon and rye backed by oak and earth meet molasses, sweet black cherry, slight smoke, coffee, and dark chocolate in the nose, very expressive and sneaky complex. Taste is much sweeter than other variants of parabola with the black cherry being huge, now joined by dark fruit, red grape, and molasses right up front, peated earth, smoke, bourbon booze, rye, coffee, wet dark oak balance out. Seems to have more extremes than the original parabola. Feel is still robust and malty though, barrel impact in a refined way, warming the smooth medium body, finishing dry and again sneaky complex. Great stout for anytime of year

Pours black with a finger of khaki foam. It bubbles away quickly. Aroma is roasty, toasty, earthy, nutty malts with spry whiskey seeping in behind. Some chocolate and coffee shops up towards the finish, but remains in the backseat. It smells dark and expressive, without being brash or harsh. Flavor profile is roasty and toasty malts first, with more modest nutty and earthy malts behind. Whiskey and barrel come in later, adding some residual heat to the back, but not enough to create an imbalance. Mouth feel is thick with a still effervescence. It carries some light particulate for texture, but it's minor. Overall, a big stout that isn't overly boozy despite the 14% ABV.

Served in a 15.5oz Speigalau tulip from a 12oz bottle.

Thanks, Chris.

The nose is fantastic, a throwback to the earliest vintages of this beer. Rich, dark chocolate, bitter and countered by a really good burnt dark brown sugar sweetness and bitterness, rich and fudge-like. The barrel character is really well rounded too, with a good balance of wood, vanilla and a soft, well-integrated delicate heat. Rich, creamy mouthfeel.

Bottle pour -dark like used motor oil on a moonless night with tiny khaki head leaving a ring of tiny foamy bubbles. Nose is sweet boozy barrel goodness. Taste follows with hints of coffee, dark chocolate cherry and more boozy barrel. A bit of rye/pepper spice lingers on the finish.

Firestone Walker 2021 Parabola Autumn Edition BBA Imperial Stout, 14% ABV. Pours thick and black, with a half-finger light brown head that left some lacing. Nose is coffee, chocolate, and cherry. Taste follows plus bourbon, with coffee on the open, and dark chocolate covered cherry on the close, slightly sweet, moderately bitter coffee. Excellent carbonation and dry mouthfeel. Overall world-class.

.... nice. near syrupy pour, persistent ring around the liquid periphery. Nose had me lingering for a while before imbibing - sweet, barrel-y goodness, evokes memories of past desserts... Taste is quite a most sweet affair - barrel, rich & syrupy, tangy coating on the tongue, nearly cathartic as it creeps down the depths - just like a good bottle of snake-oil should! Sip slowly and appreciate. Should've put this into a vert test with an older release, just to compare the nuances.
