Style: Quadrupel (Quad)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.60%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
A Belgian Quad by recipe, but aging it in spirits barrels garners its own category: Central Coast Quad. A beer formulated to sit on the sweeter and malty side so that we could utilize it for blending. Turbinado brown sugar from Mexico adds wonderful molasses flavors that are reminiscent of Belgian candi sugar. It has a full body and lush texture with barrel expression all over this beer: toasted oak, coconut, leather and cigar tobacco.

2017 Draft Pour

Finally get the luxury of having this beauty on Tap locally with the entrance of FW in to the Iowa Market.

Pours a dark Amber that turns to almost black with a full glass. As you sip it down it gradually turns to a more reddish brown.

Smell is straight Caramel

Taste follows the nose with loads of caramel, some dark fruits, and good sweetness. The barrel character on these FW barrel aged beers are some of the best IMO. Vanilla also makes a rather strong appearance.

Overall a very great offering. Found it kind of ironic that I got to get this on draft here at home before I cracked my 2016 that I actually had to trade for. After this experience I am for sure looking forward to that 2016 vintage.

Pours merky brown with a one finger head.
The aroma is brown sugar, molasses, dark fruit and barrel.
The flavor is sweet malts, dark fruit and bourbon. No Belgian spice. Still outstanding.

Bottle:
Pours a date-like brown, deep but with an auburn hue in a full glass. Little more rusty reddish hue as the volume allows more light. Held doesn't get too big, but sits tight for a few before sitting down against the glass edge. There's even a feign at some lacing.

Nose is mostly fig and/or an unsweet date. There's an alcohol component that almost brings a little spice to the impression. Other light notes include date bread and specifically the orange zest pulled from a Manhattan.

Taste is much like the nose, but with a surprisingly lighter feel seems weaker, relatively. Opening taste leans a little more date but doesn't stay too sweet. An earthiness than grows slightly bitter later in the taste comes on next (as it warms this actually becomes more of a wooden note on the bitter side). The body grows with the addition of cola notes and a lighter than the nose indicated alcohol spice. Bitterness gains here in some sips, takes a little longer in others. Not a huge lingering flavor, which might be nice, I think.

A restrained beer that hits the notes more subtly than many. I sort of flipped on the "weakness" of the flavor and the fact that I never felt weighed down by a sip of the brew. As stated, I'd like the flavor to linger a little to entice m to savor it a bit more, if I had just one request here.

2016 vintage. Bomber into oversized Cabernet glass.
Pours dark clear red-brown with almost no head, slightly viscous, looks like a cross between root beer and bourbon.
Aroma is of bourbon, vanilla, a dark fruity warmth, a little bit medicinal, a little bit of Dr. Pepper and root beer, some bites of chocolate and caramel, a little boozy. Has a lot of barrel character.
Taste is on the sweet and malty side, complex, with most of the notes from the smell and the addition of some alcohol warmth. Some alcohol and some sweetness on the finish.
Feel is a bit sticky, lingering in all the crevices, with medium body with light carbonation.
Overall: Awesome.
