Pours dark blackish brown. Nice craggy head fades to sustained oatmeal froth. Good lacing.

Substantial body without being viscous; pleasant!

Caramel and roasted malts, pleasant bitterness throughout attains full expression in finish.

Intense!

Look: Dark brown body. Thick and creamy head that is light brown.
Smell: Some hops and some malts. Nothing discerning at this time. More hops than malts. Refreshing after smelling a Fort George Fresh IPA that is an assault on the senses with hops.
Taste: Surprisingly nice taste. Pine and not so sweet malts. With the taste, the grains are at the forefront, and the hops are in the backseat. 60/40 split. Nonetheless, this is good to go.
Feel: Medium. Not crisp. Far from astringent mouth feel at the end, but it's there.

Overall - I would like a fresh bottle. Malty goodness with hoppy niceness.

Pours dark brown, almost black. Crisp, hoppy, slight roastedness. Clean roastedness and bitter hops mostly in the taste, although there is a great sweet malt taste to it. Definitely tastes like a big beer.

Big stout tan froth that doesn’t move over opaque ruby black. 4
Leaf and resin fresh hops with just a speck of roasty meat char and root beer. 4.25
Black grape, dark chocolate, licorice, then slammin’ resin, spearmint, herbal, and resin hops. 4.25
Sarsparilla end and numbing minty linger.
Medium, round, chewy, chalky. 4

Junior Mints! Big, fresh, sticky oil and just hints of black - definitely not the stout side of things. Only hitch is I’m losing the rye. But top 3 BIPA, for realz. 4.25

Typically not a fan of black ale because many of them end up with a combination of smoke with bitter taste that simply comes off as ashy. But not this one. Beautiful dark beer with fluffy tan head that slowly dissipated and had decent lacing. Nice hop aroma. Nice sweet malt flavor with some citrus, maybe orange, and a touch of roast. Creamy, with just a bit of cloying. Overall an excellent beer that I enjoyed very much and am not a fan of the style, so that is saying something.

Bottled on 6-21-15. This beer may not be as fresh as I've had before, but I'm pleasantly surprised by this beer and how it ages. The hops may have faded, allowing the silky/oily texture of the rye to come through.

A - Pitch black pour with a khaki head with pancake batter bubbles. Spotty lace after each sip.

S - Citrus hops, brown sugar, piney.

T - Hop forward, citrus, grapefruit, balanced nicely with a solid malt back bone, rye ads different elements of hop zest. Feel is a bit too much of an acidity bomb.

O - Solid Rye IPA that had good complexity and flavor.
