Aroma: Not a whole lot on the nose, faint notes of dry roast, coffee and extremely weak resinous hops. Appearance: Black in color with fair lacing against the glass and a thin foam rim. Taste: Very strong bitter hops upfront with an extremely pleasing dark chocolate/fudge overtone the the middle of the mouth. The rye is definitely noticeable and it seems to be playing off the chocolate notes extremely well. There's some definite tropical fruit in here; possibly some mango/pineapple notes, not really getting grapefruit notes as you do in typical IPA's. Some more stout characteristics are here throughout the palate. Notes of deep, rich chocolate, dry coffee, super dry finish with roasted caramel and biscuit. Overall, this is really just fantastic. Super bitter, noticeable fruity flavors and dry stout notes. A+

Served on Tap in a stemmed tulip at Meddlesome Moth in Dallas, TX.

Nice appearance - dark black/brown - semi-opaque.

Great citrusy aroma.

Really nice and well balanced Black Rye DIPA. Not the most complex DIPA ive had, but I would order it again if I had the chance.

A: pours black with less than 10% transparency. A couple finger head on pour and solid lacing.
S: fresh hop punch with some sweet malt. Amazingly aromatic. The rye isn't dense but definately there. Overall some pine, grass and citrus as expected from an IPA
T: fresh hops, rye dryness, sweet and bitter malts. Great combo and more focus on IPA than rye or black styles which is why this is a new favorite.
M: medium mouthfeel and carbonation. Pleasant dinner or dessert beer.
O: amazing offering from Firestone and not what I anticipated. The focus on hoppy IPA and foundational support of sweet malts and dry rye makes this a perfect balance.

Pours black looking but shows deep dark brown when held to the light with some mahogany around the edges. Head is almost milk chocolate in color thumb sized that falls to ringed scum with some sheet lace.

Aroma is very nice hop forward nice pine notes, big juicy citrus grapefruit, pineapple. Its is a black IPA there are roasted notes but hops defiantly dominate.

Taste is creamy like roasted flavors almost dry, like a mild iced coffee with small hints of chocolate. Hop flavors to start but the roasted notes last a while before the bitterness hits your taste buds. Hops do not kick as much as you would think from the smell, but definite citrus rind and pine bitterness to round out the roasted malt. A well balanced very enjoyable black IPA.

Mouthfeel is medium with medium level of carbonation seems to fit the brew and stays out of the way of the flavors.

Overall very well balanced and tasty brew, might be the best black IPA I have had.
